As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I know, what was I thinking. We just sold a car since we came into possession of my FIL's when he passed away in January. We decided to call our painter and FINALLY (we had some new sheetrock put up...last March) get the living room and dining room done. He's coming this afternoon to give me an estimate. Wouldn'tcha know, the freaking washing machine goes ka-phlooey. Of course it decides to breakdown mid-cycle with a full load of clothes and the drum os full of water. Needless to say, DH & I will be washer/dryer shopping this weekend. They are both a little over 10 years old and I'm not getting a new washer only to have the dryer bite the dust soon too. Stupid appliances. Any recommendations on washers/dryers?? What do you like/hate about what you have?

We had to buy a new washer last year. We bought a Kenmore Elite Oasis HE top loader. I love it that it automatically senses the load size and uses the appropiate amount of water. It's also super quiet.
I have a Whirpool top loader HE machine and am not crazy about it. Takes forever to wash, and whites do NOT come clean. If anything happens to it, I'm going back to an old school agitator machine if they're still available!
Did you have someone out to look at your washer yet? It might be cheaper to fix than buy.
AND before you do anything else, check to see that the filter is cleaned out yourself. A blocked filter to the rinse line can cause a washer to stop working mid-wash. Go online and look up how to clean out the filter from your particular brand of washer. You should find a how-to and/or a YouTube video on how to do it. That fixed the problem when my next door neighbor's washer stopped working mid-cycle.
That's the first thing I did, and I couldn't believe the crap that was in there gobbing it up. Often that's enough to get the washer working again. It's very easy to do. I only needed a screwdriver to get the front of my washer off, a bit of strength to twist the cover of the filter off and then just pulled out the filter, cleaned it and put it back in. Easy!
We had to buy a new washer in December when our electronics board quit working after it rinsed. The water went out but the jeans were sopping wet. Had to dry them over a rack in our tub and then run through the dryer. That repair was too expensive since it was electronics, but if it had been a couple of other things it would have been cheaper.

I doubt you'll find one too easily. The manufacturers seem to be fazing them out. Maybe there will be a spike in demand and they'll start making them again...you can hope.
I asked if there were any washers that didn't rely on an electronics board anymore....nope.
We have Whirlpool Duet Front loaders. We're on our second set in roughly 17 years.
I love them. The only thing I do not like is that with the Front loaders, you can't soak stuff easily like with a top loader.
I have a Whirlpool Cabrio. It's a top loader that works like a front loader. LOVE IT!! Just throw the clothes in, add detergent and softener, and forget about it until the load is done. And if I throw in color catcher sheets I can wash whites and darks in the same load. REALLY cuts down on the number of loads I have to do.

No but it has to do with it not spinning for the spin cycle. I've already had it repaired for that twice. I'm not flushing more money into a 10 year old machine. Especially a machine that when we bought it money was tight so it wasn't the top of the line anyway. At least I found out Sears is having a big sale this Saturday!!
I would recommend against a Whirlpool. My parents have had nothing but problems with their front loader. The first one they had kept leaking while operating. It had just come out of warranty, so my mom called Whirlpool and explained what was happening (I believe it was fixed for the same issue twice while under warranty), she had the rubber thing on the door replaced 4 or 5 times, at Whirlpools expense. Finally, they gave her a new washer. Lo and behold, 6 weeks later, guess what happens. Yup, leaks again, so she starts the cycle all over with Whirlpool. Finally, they refunded her what she paid for the machine and she bought a Kenmore, I believe.
I personally have a stackable, and honestly, I don't know what make it is. We got it from a friend who moved to Washington, DC. Before this, we had what I swear was the first stackable ever invented, in like mustard yellow, by Frigidaire. It was OLD.
The only thing I do not like is that with the Front loaders, you can't soak stuff easily like with a top loader.
How true! Unfortunately, my laundry closet (w/ bifold doors) is too small for the front loaders, so I had to go w/ the top loader. So, I soak in a plastic tub, and the stuff still doesn't come as clean as I wnat.
