As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

School Unifroms?
I just spent $350.00 on uniforms, shirts, shorts, long pants, sweat shirt, belt, socks. What do you spend at the start of school? I got 5 of each, only 1 sweat shirt. DH again thinks, I lost my mind. DS school has white shirts with the school emblom on it. What do they think a 9 year old boy will look like at the end of the day in a white shirt. Last year I used so much clorox that his shirts started to look yellow. How many items do you buy? The start of school is so $$$$$. You almost need to take a loan out.

Re: School Unifroms?
Wow! I guess we spend about that per kid as well though - it just doesn't show as much, since we spread it around. No uniforms at our public school - although I almost wish we did - it would make life so much easier!
Sarah is all set - we hit clearance sales for her - I picked up all kinds of jeans, khakis, etc for around $2/pair. She thinks she is totally cool if she can wear jeans - I think we are all done with the cute play dresses - I grabbed her a red Mickey tennis dress at the Disney Store's clearance sale - she thinks she can only wear it to play tennis in
She wants to be a super model - so her favorite pants right now are some Old Navy stretch black hip hugger flares. I bought them for dance workout clothes - they looked like Jazz Pants - but she's worn them right through! Luckily her principal just sent home a copy of the dress code so that parents don't buy the wrong stuff! No clothes with holes allowed!! Unfortunately - these too were a clearance item - I haven't seen them since.
Jennie has outgrown EVERY pair of pants she owns - we need to have a major girl's day out (our family code word for super shopping day!). I hate to encourage her - I'd like her to drop some of the weight - but she needs to feel good in her clothes!! She also needs shirts - the ones they make for juniors these days are all on the skimpy side - she's already five foot nine - she needs longer T-shirts!! No bellies can show!
Amanda refuses to buy new clothes - she's barely broken hers in from last year according to her. She still buys her jeans in the boys dept - likes the old 5 pocket straight legs. She wears mainly team shirts, and race T-shirts - she won't do the junior dept thing! I just threw her favorite sneakers in the trash - and her backups don't look much better - she hates getting new shoes! She's starting high school this year - I'd hoped this would change- but now - I'm thinking not.
So - Jr. Jeans - at least 5 pair x 30 = $150. Add in some sneakers - new socks - shirts - we are definitely looking at $350 for Jennie.
They are all due for new backpacks as well - I make them last for a couple of years - but they are really starting to look ratty - too many washings!
On the happy side - nobody needs new undies - we just did that for our Disney trip!
The school supplies listing is what really breaks the bank! Amanda needs a calculator, model specified, for $100 for her algebra class! Add in 6 ring binders, umpteen composition style notebooks, pens, pencils, markers, etc - ouch!! We will easily be dropping $300 at Staples!
Ah - the price we pay for having smart kids!

Re: School Unifroms?
Our kiddos also go to public school where there is no uniform requirement (although, like Marie, I wish there was!). We'll hit Old Navy and The Gap here shortly, but it stays so warm here through mid Fall that they really don't need new clothes until then (of course summer 2004 line will be out by then ) - actually next week the kids are spending the week up at my parents house and I'm sure my shop-a-holic mom will be taking them to shop for school clothes at least once or twice! Re: School Unifroms?
Our boys were in private school for a while. We had a uniform exchange at the end of the year to help offset the cost of all new ones the next. Of course, our boys' uniforms were never in any condition to put in the swap.

Re: School Unifroms?
My stepdaughter goes to a private Christian Academy, chosen by her mother. Luckily she is starting her Senior year in September and her uniforms still fit.
We will still drop a few hundred dollars on supplies, backpacks, etc.
Of course this year there will also be the costs of Senior Prom, graduation party and lord only knows what else !

No uniforms at our schools either but I have two good things in my favor:

Re: School Unifroms?
WOW!! I don't spend nearly that much on school clothing. The first day of school he always gets a new outfit, but other than that, it's jeans/t-shirts/sweatshirts that he already has. Plus my mom always buys tons of stuff throughout the year in bigger sizes, so he has lots of new stuff to grow into.
He goes straight to daycare after school, so I am glad there is no uniform. That would mean he would have to lug extra clothing around and change once he got to daycare. What a pain...

Re: School Unifroms?
BIL kids used to go to a private school where they did have uniforms. He said they were more expensive because not only did you have to buy school clothes, but everyday clothes as well.
I haven't gone school shopping yet - I'm waiting for the "Back-to-School" sale for teachers.
