As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I grew up in the middle of Indianapolis. We didn't have posted hours for Trick or Treating. We'd have a Halloween party at school the last hour or so, stay in our costumes, and start hitting houses on our way home. We had about a mile to walk, so we usually had pretty full bags before we even got home! We'd stay out forever knocking on doors.
Now, the town we live in and all the ones around us post hours. Sometimes, it's not even on the actual date! If Halloween falls on a Sunday or Monday, they'll declare Saturday the day, or if it's on Thursday, they'll declare Friday the day (they've gotten away from this in the last couple of years, but every year, there's talk of going back to it.). Trick or Treat hours don't start here until 6 pm. By then, the sun is down and it's DARK on our street.
I live in Connecticut right near the RI and Mass border's....NO posted hour's here...Kid's here head out when dark start's to fall around 5 and they Trick or Treat usually up until 9 30 even 10:00 pm...We don't switch day's either if it is a Wednesday like this year than Wednesday it is..But with the destruction of Sandy here some of our town's that have been hit pretty bad have postponed until later in November.
We have trick or treat hours here on the North Shore (northern suburbs of Chicago). They are 3:30 to 7:00 but the older kids usually T or T for another half hour or so after the little kids go in. It's not an enforced rule but people can and do turn off their porch lights after 7. I live in the woods and we rarely get any trick or treaters so I would welcome them at any time.

They post hours here. It's normally 6-8 on Halloween but this year because of Sandy, it's 5-7 on Sunday. It's very confusing. There were no kids out tonight. We'll see how many come out on Sunday.

Our town not only has posted hours, but they've moved trick or treating until SAT. 11/3 from 5-8pm. And, if you call the Rec Dept. they'll tell you which streets to visit. It's like living with the stepford wives.
but I wish they did - then we'd know exactly which hours not to be at home... Unfortunately, we've had bad experiences with teenagers over the years, so we prefer not to be involved in it.
The town where I grew up (suburbs of Cleveland) did -- I think it was 6 - 8:30 or some such thing.
No posted hours here. I usually get the first batch around 6:15 and they trickle off after 8:30. I turn off the light at 9 unless I hear kids still out and about.
The only time they switch the day is when Halloween falls on a Sunday - then trick or treating is done the Saturday before (which annoys me, but what can you do?). As far as actual times, I was really surprised to see how early some of the others posted about. It doesn't get dark here till just after 7:00 on Halloween, so most kids don't start until 7 (except for the really little kids who start more like 6:00). I've never heard of/seen people trick or treating in the daylight. Our kids were back at about 8:30, but when we got home at about 9:30 (we'd t or t at my sister's neighborhood) there were still some groups out on the main street in our neighborhood!
