As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
Two-part question here:
#1 - What form of torture, uhm, I mean, hair removal do you use on your legs? And how often?
#2 - For those of you with daughters - at what age did you let them or encourage them to start shaving their legs (or other method).
DD, who's only 9 , wants to start shaving!! (And honestly, it isn't that soft, golden "baby" hair any more! She must get that from her dad! ) She can't be old enough to shave!!! Not my baby!! Sniff...

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
i shave. i probably only shave 2 or 3 times a week in the summer (far less in the winter). my girls are still far too young to worry about it (4 and 1 1/2), but back in the old days i started at around 12 maybe. i know kids grow up a lot faster these days, though, so 9 might not be outrageous. i wish i could give you a better answer. just remind her that it's no fun, and once you start you can never stop. maybe it won't seem like such a cool,grown-up thing then.

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
I was about 12 also. Things are different nowadays though, each person has their own timeline...not to be so specific, but I think the thing that determines it is hair color and how dark your skin in...I have dk brown hair and fairly light skin....I know women who have blonde-type hair who do not have to shave a often as me...(LUCKY!!)
Hope that was of help to you! Good luck!

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
In the summer, I shave (razor) probably every day (or every other day if I'm not going to be wearing shorts or capris). In the winter, it is probably once a week. My daughter is only 4, so I don't have to go thru this yet. I think I was around 11 or 12 when I first started!!

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
My mom never had to shave I rarely do in the winter , probably only once a week in the summer. It's really not an issue for me. I just do it when I notice it needs to be done. I think I started around age 13? Kids are gonna want to, especially if it's darker and if their friends are doing it.

In the winter, I shave my legs about once a week - hey they're usually hidden away then, so who cares? In the summer, it's a couple of times a week shaving or the old hair removal cream... only DH always moans that it stinks the house out! Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
I shave probably 2 or 3 times a week in summer.
My DD (now 13) has been shaving her legs for probably over a year. I'm not entirely sure, because she didn't announce to me "Mom I shaved my legs" but I think she started in Grade 6. She had been bugging me since she was 10 or 11. It was a decision she made although I discouraged her because her hair is fair. All her friends were shaving and bragging/complaining about nicks, or frequency of shaving. I told her that I had no problem with her shaving her pits when it was necessary but to think seriously about her legs because it would quickly lose it's novelty and not be fun after a couple months. I guess I'm lucky she waited until she was in Grade 6. Isn't 9 only Grade 4?

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
Wow! How timely! DD is going to be 12 in a few weeks and just started this week. I gave her some hints but it was really her girlfriends that had the best advise because they are more familiar with the new products that they have out there. I remember I started around 12. My mother is appalled that I let her. But she did need to on her arms. I don't usually go with "everyone else is doing it" but it's about the age and she's going to have to sooner or later. Oh where did my little girl go!? Sometimes it's a little sad watching her grow up so fast, but I look forward to watching her start this new journey too! Oh, was I getting a little too sappy there!?

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
I still use the trusty razor - 2 to 3 three times a week during the summer, much less often in the winter.
Has anyone tried the new lotions that say you won't need to shave as often?

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">I have mine waxed at the salon once a month, that's all they need. The hair grows back much slower.
#2 - For those of you with daughters -
I only have boys so that's not an issue for me.

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
I started in the 5th grade...on Easter morning to be exact...and I still have the scar!
I have to shave AT LEAST every other day in the summer...and I do it enough in the winter just to keep from being gross!
I say if it's starting to become noticeable, then give the girl a razor! Actually, since she is young, you might want to consider an electric razor...less chance for blood-spurting cuts!

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
Hair removal. Aaaarg! I can't believe all of you can get away with shaving every few days - I have to shave my legs every day or it looks like I need mowing. And then, there's the nasty subject of facial hair, which was really no problem until after 40. (I'm 41). It's not like the circus is after me to be the bearded lady or anything, but it's just something that bothers me enough to do something about it. I couldn't afford the laser treatment - $300 every 3 months or so! I'm afraid of electrolysis. And waxing is just torture, so I was left with Nair. Nair FACIAL hair remover worked well. So well, that I bought it again. Except I bought the heavy duty remover that wasn't to be used on the face without realizing it. You can guess what happened, I used it on my face. This has been 3 days ago and it still hurts. When I put it on it stung worse than vinegar in an open wound. Water made it worse. Labor was less painful. So, this is just my caution about Nair - works well, but buy the right kind.
Oh, daughters. Mine both started shaving in 6th grade. I waited until they asked.

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
Shaving legs (never tried the wax treatment) in the Spring/Summer/Fall (I've worn shorts in December before) is every 3 days. In the winter, every 6 days or so.
I was one of the last ones to start shaving in my group - I think I was 13. My niece has been shaving since she was 10 and has quickly found out it's not as much fun as she thought it would be.

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
I am one of those with DARK hair and fair skin, so shaving is frequent (at least once a day - more if wearing a swimsuit). If not, my legs quickly become more hairy than DH's. (I actually won a hairiest legs contest once at summer camp! - Don't ask...)
My mother strongly impressed on me, that once you start, you can't stop! That may make her want to wait a little while longer(it did for me), but if her hair is really noticable, it may just be time...
Also, I second the idea of an electric razor - I use DH's all the time...just don't use it if the hairs are too long. It will pull them! She may have to shave once with a regular razor first.
Hope this is helpful, but I'm afraid I may have just rambled on about my own shaving frustrations - Sorry!

Re: Shaving 101 (Ladies only, please!)
I'm glad this came up, because we've been dealing with this issue at our house lately. My oldest DD is 11 and just finished 5th grade. This spring she started asking to shave. I thought elementary school was a bit too young to shave, so I asked her to wait until she turned 12 (in July). She later told me she was the "only one" who didn't shave, and her friends made fun of her. So I let her start a few weeks ago. She had a few underarm hairs, so she shaved them too which hasn't grown back in about 3 weeks! Now she thinks she has to shave her legs the second a hair peeks out of the follicle!! I told her to take it easy, just shave a few times a week. But I have to admit I shave nearly every day in the summer, and every other day in the winter - me no like stubble!
