As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I'm kind of surprised that no one has posted photos of their Halloween costumes yet. Is anyone getting dressed up this year? I won't be out this year; one kid is in college and the other is a teen now and too cool to dress up.
I miss not going out for Halloween and yet, I don't miss it. I miss the days of taking the kids door to door, but I don't miss the hassle of trying to find/create just the right costume. My oldest had a Cinderella fascination and a godmother who worked at the Disney store, so she was always easy to dress for Halloween. My son, well, he wasn't quite so easy. When he was really little, he went as Superman and Buzz Lightyear, but then, once he could demand his own costume, he went out as Barry Manilow two years in a row. That's not a costume you can find in Walmart or the Disney Store. It was a pain back then, but now..... I kind of miss it. You know what I mean?
My dd is 16 and will have too much homework to do anything but sit in the livingroom and perhaps get a glimps of the small kids that come to the door and of course eat candy all night.
We have never had many (if any) trick or treaters because we are in a relatively isolated neighborhood with no street lights and not many kids. Our schools did a fall festival instead of Halloween to cut down on sugar as well as to address concerns of parents who did not celebrate.
My kids were never that much in Halloween but I did sew costumes for my first which were handed down to the others. I liked making them not so much for Halloween but for dress up, where they were well used.

I'm in the process of making a Jif peanut butter jar costume for my 11 yr old DD. DS is too , so he'll be handing out candy!

My DD16 had a Halloween Party last weekend. She forgot to take pictures. How does that happen? She was a referee and her boyfriend was a soccer player. The other girl who helped host was a parrot and her boyfriend was a pirate. There were some chemical equations of some kind (three smart boys), a nun (boy), a masquerade character (DDs bff) and a Hershey's Kiss. Those are the ones I remember. They only had a few other guests. I didn't get to see most of them because I stayed out of the way.
My family (and my sister's family)'s costumes are in my sig pic. Those are what we wore at MNSSHP this year. The only ones dressing up on Halloween are my niece (Alice) and son & nephew (the Tweedles). (I wish this picture went lower down...the tweedles also have red/white striped stockings on. )

My DDs will dress up, but I have no clue what they'll be. Kathryn is putting together a costume to wear to one of the University parties, and Lauren will put something on here - she and her BFF down the street always just dig in our costume trunk and put something together about an hour before they head out!
Hallowe'en isn't as big a deal here as it is in the States, although it's getting there. We've decided we're going out again on Monday night to avoid the trick or treaters - our tactic for about the last three years...
I'm dressing up as a number line. (My Calculus II prof hinted at the possibility of a couple of extra points if we dress up with a math theme for Halloween tomorrow.) Basically, I'm just dressing in all black and pinning some foam numbers to my clothing. Really simple.
DS is going as DJ Lance Rock from the show Yo Gabba Gabba (his very favorite thing at the moment. ) and DD is, to put it in HER words, "Blonde Harry Potter".
Having made many, many costumes over the years I don't offer to make them anymore, but I will make them on request. I made Sammie's (Jesse) and I made Oliva's (Devil Death Fairy) which she designed. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of her.
