As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Anyone purchase a new or new "used" car lately?
If so, what did you buy?
Did you buy it for the fuel efficiency?
We will probably be in the market for a newer vehicle in the next couple of months.
I have a 1999 Ford Expedition that I dearly love!
But, it has 161,000 miles on it and let's face it.....it is a gas hog!
With dh taking a job across the state, I will be doing a lot of back and forth traveling for the next 1-2 years!
I really like the Ford Edge, but was told it doesn't get the best gas mileage!
Any thoughts???
We will be in the market for a third family car very shortly. We are looking at buying a Chevy Cruze. It has everything we need in a car and appeals to all four of us. Plus we have a bunch of GM rewards saved up to give us a nice start on the downpayment.
It has fairly good fuel economy, very good safety features, fits men over 6'2", and has a place to plug in the kid's iTouch players for music. They already test drove it and said it drove well.
I'm considering a new car, too. I currently have a Toyota RAV4 and I love it, so I might get another one. I'm also looking at a Honda CRV. I need room to carry my son's electric keyboard and assorted musical yak. Obviously, if I can get better mileage out of a newer car, that would be a plus. I've had terrific luck with Toyota products. My Corolla was 14 years old, had over 200,000 miles on it and all I had to replace in all those 14 years were tires, the battery, the muffler, and brake pads. The RAV is just as dependable. (And before you blast me for not buying American, it was made in Kentucky.) Not long ago I got a letter about a recall for the gas pedal/car mat. I have never had a problem, but I brought the car in anyway. I got a whole new set of floor mats, they vacuumed out my car, sent it through the carwash, and filled the tank with gas. No charge! Consequently, I'm a very brand loyal customer!
Might want to look at the Ford Flex also. That is what i traded in and loved it. Great gas mileage and room for 7. Only reason I got rid of it cause I missed having a truck and could only tow 4100 lbs with the flex

I just traded my Mustang for a Tahoe so I'm not interested in gas mileage
However, I work at a Honda dealership and people LOVE the Fit!! It does have an amazing amount of room inside! The new Civic & Odysseys are flying out the door.
I just got a new Chevy Cruze last month. I love it!! I drive 46 miles a day to work and it's getting 31 mpg. I can average about 488 miles per tank. Of course, with gas prices where they are, I usually fill up just under 1/2 tank which is every Monday.
My middle son is looking for a new car. While we are long time owners of Japanese cars, he is very impressed with the Ford Fiesta. I don't know what size you want but DS is very focused on minimizing gas purchases. He also looked into the Fit and Yaris.
Maybe I'm just a giant (I'm only 5'10" though?) but I was CRAMPED when I rode in my friend's Honda Fit (and it was only a short ride - Universal back to WDW). I felt like my knees were going to hit my chin.
New cars are great, but if you want to save some $$ you might look into used as well. DH still has his 1987 (I think?) Honda Civic that has over 300,000 miles on it and gets ridiculously good gas mileage - better than most new cars, even the "economic" ones. I have a 2000 Toyota Forerunner and it gets pretty good gas mileage for an SUV. As an earlier poster mentioned, I am fiercely loyal to Toyota. My car has over 200,000 miles on it and (knock on wood) all I've had to do was regular maintenance and I think DH replaced the timing belt once or something. These cars last. We're hoping to get a new car (DH really wants a new car just because he's had his for so long - but he'd keep the civic to drive to work since it's a 35 mile drive each way) before too long and we've been looking at Toyota FJ Cruisers. We've been really impressed with them.

I was hoping to purchase a new car this Spring, but it's not happening (maybe next Spring). I am considering a Honda CR-V or a Hyundai Santa Fe. I like the look and features of the Chevy Equinox, but I think it's out of my price range.
Good luck!!!

I just bought a new car last week. Its a 2011 Buick Lucerne. Its a nice car with a smooth ride and plenty of power. It gets good gas milage but I bought it for the ride, looks and price. A lot of car for the money because there was a $6500 rebate. I looked at a few cars but my main requirment is that it is built by an american company. I will buy European but you will never see me driving an asian car like Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai etc. They are just built way too cheap.
Michael, I just had to comment as a person who has owned multiple Toyotas, Hondas, Mazdas and Nissans. I run my cars into the ground. I consider 200K just broken in. I have always found them to have great rides-even the Corollas and Civics I have owned. I had a 1993 Camry Wagon until last year that drove and road like a dream until I decided not to fix the transmission at 240K because it was beginning to rust and we have lots of salt on the roads up here,
I am curious as to why you feel they are built "way too cheap." Have you spent any time driving one?
I have a 2005 Ford Focus and I love it. I haven't had any problems with it and I go a little over the normal yearly milage with my dd playing travel hockey. I will be buying a new car somewhere between Sept and Dec since dd will be a licensed driver come this December and I will be giving her the 2005 Focus. I'm thinking about either another Focus or a Fiesta as they are both good cars. We are also considering a Mazda 3 as one of my dd's softball teammates drives one and her parents say it's a good car and I rented one once and liked it.
