Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

When I was about 10 years old and my sister was 6, Santa brought us a little grocery store and a house that were made out of cardboard. The grocery store had a set of shelves with little food items and a check-out. The house was painted with shutters and a mailbox. We thought that was so cool.

I should clarify, I never received a Raggedy Ann for Christmas until I was 15! Otherwise she would be my favorite! LOL

I received my all time favorite at age 10, and I thought the world could not get any better.
It was a toy called Girders and Panels and it was a construction toy. You used the plastic girders to create a building's infrastructure and then snapped on the panels which replicated the glass structure. It was so utterly cool and I just knew I'd be an architect one day! Amazing I grew up to be a CPA! LOL!

I was actually a little older,14, well past Santa Claus age. I was a slob and my parents said if I kept my room clean from the beginning of the school year until Christmas day, I would get a stereo for my room, with an 8 track player [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] and everything. Well Christmas morning I opened that box and was soooo excited. But my parents wanted to surprise me with something, so the last gift I opened was a phone for my room with my own line [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] ! Every teenage girls dream [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img] .

Wow! I'm not sure I can remember that far back! I would say my best Christmas gift as a child would be the Erector Set. It was the big one with the motor and Dad had built the ferris wheel to put under the tree.
The best as an adult was the 4 day cruise that our older son gave us one year. (Did I teach him right about gifts?) [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

I have to say WOW too!!! Thinking back there are so many special moments at Christmas. But my utmost favorite present was my first Bike. It was such a suprise and a real financial stretch for my parents thinking back on it. But it just stands out as the most memorable.

My best Christmas was the year I got a puppy! I was so thrilled. A poodle I named Misty. She lived 17 years and was my constant companion. Every child should have a pet to love. That's just my opinion.

Christmas of '84. I had just turned 5 that October and I begged Santa in all my letters for a baby sister! [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img] On Christmas morning my mom had a ribbon around her tummy with a card attached that read - To Christina From Santa - Here's your little sister, but you'll have to wait until April to see her. !!! [img]images/icons/shocked.gif[/img] !!! Holy cow! A little sister! I was so excited! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]
Fast forward 3 1/2 months later - April 8th comes along. My mom calls from the hospital (where they went to meet Santa to exchange Mommy's big belly for my little sister [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img] ). Mom says Santa thought I'd like a little brother more 'cause that's what he brought. [img]images/icons/mad.gif[/img] I told her to give it back. I wanted a sister! I was stuck with my stinky old baby brother. He'll be 18 this coming April. My mom loves telling him how I told her to give him back to Santa. [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img]

Chrissi--- I absolutely love that story! I'm glad you had a chance to share it with us.
I was sure my mother had said my youngest sibling would be a boy and was shocked when she brought home a girl....BUT MOM, that was supposed to be a boy...then we'd have two girls and two boys. Mom, swears she never said it would be a boy....I say otherwise.
I have no real memory of a perfect Christmas gift. Wahhhh [img]images/icons/frown.gif[/img] There must have been something though. -HiddenMickey

I don't really remember getting any gift as a child that made me squeal with delight or shake in excitement. Mostly I remember getting velvet dresses and pajama sets. I do remember getting my first bike the Christmas I was 6... but it was December and it's really hard to learn to ride a bike in 6 inches of snow so it wasn't all that exciting. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]
My favourite Christmas gift was given to me last year by my parents. It's an heirloom quilt top in perfect condition made by my Great Grandmother and my Great Great Grandmother around 1918-1920. That gift made me cry. [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img]
I also treasure the various trinkets and costume jewellry that my children chose so carefully and purchased for me with their own money. |

A dollhouse and all the furniture to go into it.
It's a funny (but kinda long) story actually, we would go to this hobby shop and my mom and aunt would pour over the dollhouse furniture, which was supposed to be for my cousin (my mom's and aunts brother's daughter), so I never paid much attention.....
The weekend before Christmas my dad picked us up and took us to see his parents and on the way home we stopped at a store and I bought myself my very first Christmas Stocking!! I was so excited, we had never had stockings prior to this!
Christmas Eve, we go to my aunt's house (like we do every year) and we open presents! But, for some reason, I couldn't open the presents to me from my cousin Paul (my aunt's son). There was a shopping bag full of all these little presents!! Now, you'd think I'd pick up on it, but not me! [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img]
Christmas Morning comes and I am so excited to see if my stocking is full, I walk right past the dollhouse to my stocking!!! My mother and brothers were like 'Um, Allyson!!! Hello!?!? See the dollhouse???'!!
22 years later and I still haven't lived that one down! Every Christmas that story surfaces as some point!! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

This was a great Christmas - 1974. We opened our presents a few days before Christmas (Santa came early for us on special request) because we were leaving the next day for DisneyWorld!!! Honestly!!! I was only 5 and they didn't want to tell me before so left it as a surprise. My brothers and sister knew. We drove down a few days before Christmas and were there for 2 1/2 weeks - Orlando and Sarasota. Back then, Christmas holidays from school were almost 3 weeks for us. The day we came back, we had a terrible snow storm and have a picture of me in the back yard and my Mom made everyone watch me because if I was more than 5 feet from the door, they would lose sight of me. After all the sun I guess I wanted to play in the snow.
That was when the obsession began..... [img]graemlins/love.gif[/img]
