As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I went to a cheap place to get my haircut. No style just a blow dry. When I went up to the register the lady asked me if I had any coupons and I said no. I didn't even know they had any! Then she told me it was $30.00!!! I about died! I went to a cheap place so I wouldn't have to pay $30 plus a tip! The lady before me in line had a different stylist and her haircut was $17! Mine was expensive because she was a senior stylist. Going into a place like Great Clips, Fantastic Sams, Fiesta Salons, I didn't even know they charged more for experience. I thought everything was standard. I hate to say it but if I would've known she was a Senior stylist I would've rather paid less for just a regular stylist. I would've paid $20 total. It seems like you can't even get a haircut for under $20 anymore.
Well ... in my barber shop, there is a price for women's cuts ... $14. A men's cut is $12. If you don't mind talking sports or looking at the Sports Illustrated Calendar, you can go see Nick or Phil at my barbershop!
Seriously, though ... my DW was just talking about this the other day ... she had a different stylist at her salon and the bill came to $45! It's normally $30 and she was peeved that she didn't know the "seniority rule" either!

Sorry this happened to you!
Yeah, I knew this "seniority" rule existed at expensive salons. I guess I was just surprised they have it at Fiesta Salons. It's so weird. It should be like you say a set price. I might have to go to a barbershop!

Wow, I would have been angry too! Obviously, due to your surprise, the stylist did not mention at all previous to starting that she was the "senior" stylist. I think that is sort of misrepresentation if you ask me. As long as you hadn't specifically requested that senior lady, I think you shouldn't have been charged any more than any of the other customers. If it's one of those places where you just put your name on the list when you come in and get whatever stylist is next available (I'm not familiar with Fiesta), then it seems pretty shady to me to charge more for one stylist than another. Sorry you had this happen! (I always get the extra charge for long hair, which kind of annoys me too. My hair is straight as a board and all one length. I get it washed, trimmed, and dried. Now, I understand it probably takes a little longer to dry it because I have a lot of hair, but there is no styling involved like there generally is with shorter cuts, so I think the time is probably the same amount either way....but oh well. Sigh.)

That sounds expensive. I usually go to the local college ($5 kids, $8 adults), but if my schedule doesn't allow it (there hours are limited), I go to great clips and it's still always under $20.....
I've never heard of a "senior stylist" at one of the cheap places -- that's a specialty reserved for expensive salons, IMHO.
I would've argued that no one ever said anything to me prior to my being escorted to my chair and that the posted signs are for the lower amount.
Dag... I hope it was at least an excellent cut!
PS - back when I used to have a "difficult" cut, I gladly paid the higher prices for a senior stylist/colorist at a pricey salon. But... when I walk into Cost Cutters, I'm not expecting that kind of cut... or price!
That's just outrageous.
Did they have the prices posted anywhere? Was there something posted about your stylist being "senior"? I would definitely try to talk to management about your experience and ask for some sort of compensation.

We go to Hair Cuttery and although we always go to the same stylist all the prices are the same and posted on the wall (for the general stuff). When my dd get's her hair straightened it always seems to be a different price although it seems to be coming down lately so I haven't said anything.
I never would have thought there was a seniority pricing program at a place like that. I'd be ticked too!
I don't pay $30 and I get mine cut by the salon owner.
I have my hair blunt cut. My DD went online a couple of years ago and read up on how to cut hair. She has been doing it ever since and actually does a better job than most of the hair cutters I have been to in the past. She does take a lot of time, but I always get compliments on the cut.
WOW! I always thought great clips, fantastic sams were all one price as well. I hate they want to charge me $3 just to wash my hair. So, when we have gone to them in the past I always made sure the girls took at shower right before we left.
Lately, I have been going over to the beauty school. They have to consult with instructors before they touch your hair, the instructors are always walking around watching, and then consult with the instructors at the end. So, we have never had a bad haircut. We have been going to Regency beauty schools, every 6th haircut you get either a free facial or $10 off a service. Since haircuts are only $9, it works out to a free haircut for us!!! Plus being that it is a school, and they need the hours to graduate, they don't accept tips.
Wow. That's ridiculous for a cheap hair cut place.
I hope you complained to the manager because they should have told you up front it would be a different price before she touched your hair.
I've got a stylist I love who just told me she's quitting the business because there's no money in it anymore. According to her, people are going to the cheaper places so she's not getting as much business and can't afford to keep working doing hair.
I will miss her and will probably go back to going to the cheap haircut places that mess up my hair and make me grumpy. Hearing that they may charge me more for a senior stylist ticks me off and it hasn't even happened to me yet.
