Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

YOU KNOW YOU\'RE FROM BOSTON WHEN...

You think of Philadelphia as the Midwest.

You think there are only 25 letters in the alphabet (no R's).

You remember when the "Fleet Center" was "The Boston Garden" and refuse To refer to it as anything BUT "the Gahden"

You refer to 6 inches of snow as a "dusting."

You don't eat dinner; you eat "suppa"

You always 'bang a left' as soon as the light turns green, and oncoming traffic always expects it.

You still can't bear to watch highlights from game 6 of the 1986 World Series.

You believe using your turn signal is a sign of weakness.

You don't realize that you walk and talk twice as fast as everyone else.

Your favorite adjective is "wicked."

You think 63 degree ocean water is warm.

You know what candlepin bowling is

WHEN WE SAY ________ WE MEAN...

Bizaah - odd

Flaahwiz - roses, etc.

Hawaahya? - how are you?

Khakis - what we staaht the caah with

Retaahded - silly

Shoowah - of course

Yiz - you, plural

HOW WE'LL KNOW YOU WEREN'T BON HEAH:

You wear a Harvard sweatshirt.

You ask directions to "Cheers."

You order a grinder and a pop.

You follow soccer.

You eat at Durgin Park.

You don't know that Jimmies go on ice cream.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

Frappes have ice cream; milk shakes don't.

If it's fizzy and flavored, it's tonic. When we mean tonic WATER, we say tonic WATER. Soda is club soda. Pop is dad.

The smallest beer is a pint.

Scrod is whatever they tell you it is, usually fish.

If you paid more than $6 a pound, you got scrod.

It's not a water fountain, it's a bubblah.

It's not a trash can, it's a barrel.

It's not a shopping cart, it's a carriage.

It's not a Liquor Store it's a Packie.

you don't say "curse" you say "swear"

Brown bread comes from a can. You open both ends, push it out, heat it and eat it with baked beans.

They're not franks, they're hot dawgs. Franks are money in France.

Route 128 is also I-95. It is also I-93.

The underground train is not the subway. It's the T, and it doesn't run all night (this ain't Noo Yawk).

BASIC RULES FOR DRIVING IN BOSTON
(subject to change at any time):

When on a one way street, stay to the right to allow oncoming traffic to pass.

The first parking space you see will be the last parking space you see. Grab it.

Learn to swerve abruptly. Boston is the home of slalom driving, thanks to the Registry of Motor Vehicles, which puts potholes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them on their toes.

Never get in the way of a car that needs extensive bodywork.

Always look both ways when running a red light.

Honk your horn the instant the light changes.

Never use directional signals when changing lanes. They only warn other drivers to speed up and not let you in.

Making eye contact revokes your right of way.

Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right.

Green means GO, Yellow means Go with caution, Red means Go faster.

Re: YOU KNOW YOU\'RE FROM BOSTON WHEN...

Having been raised in Massachusetts and learned how to drive there, you brought back some terrific memories. Thanks.

PS: That driving stuff is dead right. A few years ago we were on a company trip to Boston. We took a tour ride on a Saturday and when we stopped at a red light, the driver announced on the speaker "No tour of Boston is complete till ya run a red light", then he did! <font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Just to confuse everyone even more, at one point they actually run North and South together on the same side (I think you are going South on Route 128 but at the same time on the same side of the road you are going North on 93)!!! Go figure --- only around Boston!

Re: YOU KNOW YOU\'RE FROM BOSTON WHEN...

I just thought of something else. When I lived in New Hampster later in life, some of us had a joke. We'd joke that if you were going to Bahstun you better take a baseball bat to the front of your car or else the Bahstun drivers would not "respect" you. You know, show them you will not be pushed around.

Re: YOU KNOW YOU\'RE FROM BOSTON WHEN...

Wow, Steve's inlaws are from Boston, Don and Belle are former residents....that's really interesting! And I thought only Pam and Tinkerose would appreciate this thread. I'm so glad that it brought a chuckle to all of you. Steve, whereabouts do your inlaws live?

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Nancy, actually they no longer live in Boston - they are in Fairfax County in the DC area. But my mother in law is from Norwood and my father in law from Malden. My FIL actually went to Harvard for undergrad and B.U. for his law degree and my MIL went to Simmons College for nursing. When my wife was little they lived in Framingham. Susan still has tons of relatives up that way and we really enjoy visiting!

BTW, they got a HUGE kick out of this!

Re: YOU KNOW YOU\'RE FROM BOSTON WHEN...

OMG I can totally understand the "Making eye contact revokes your right of way". When my DH and I were driving down to Rhode Island we have to go through Boston and he told me don't let the other drivers see you turn your head to change lanes or they won't let you in! I thought he was kidding but he wasn't So you have to drive with your head straight but your eyes must move to the side of your head!
