As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

"Disney Cruise Guide Progress
The 2010 edition of our Disney Cruise guide is undergoing major revision -- significantly more than we anticipated -- and we're still working on it. But making great progress (major kudos to Dave, who's been leading that project). That means we won't make our projected late April release date (more like mid-to-late May). We will, however, make an e-book version available as soon as we can. Watch for details on that to come soon."
Does anyone (maybe Dave will see this?) know if they will refund pre-orders if this is delayed to the point that it really isn't relavent for our cruise? If it is out in May, I'll still take it, but if it goes beyond that it won't make much sense for us. Hoping that May is now the overly cautious estimate!
Thanks for the heads-up. Since this book is definitely still in the works, and since our distributor (to whom Amazon undoubtedly refers to as their supplier) still lists it as in the works, that e-mail is not accurate. I chalk it up to "computerized form letter."

We are doing our first cruise in a month and wanted the 2010 book also but after reading it wouldn't be out till around late May we just got the 2009 book
we figured the info for our ship should still be the same
So unless you are going on the new ship I feel the 2009 issue should be fine

That is most definitely true if you're just doing the Carib. For those of us going to Northern Europe, though - an itinerary never covered by DCL before - we're anxious for that 2010 version!
In terms of the ships, older books are fine. I think I still referred to my 2004 version for a 2006 cruise and that was fine.

We're still keen to have the current version as we're going on the northern european cruise. Our previous copy from when we did the Med is being pressed into service for many of the questions we have about the ship of course. The snag with the excellent offer of 35% discount on the new version is that the very high postage costs to the UK makes this no good at all

If it is just an error can't you get your supplier to contact Amazon? I had preordered at a discounted rate as the postage from your website to the UK is an insane amount compared to the Amazon prices! Now I can't get my order and so wont get the preorder discount. I actually am quite upset about this as I think that you should be chasing your distributer to sort this now rather than just chalking it up to a computerised error. Our orders have actually been cancelled!

The current edition is no good for Med cruisers or European cruisers as there is no(/not much) information about these in them. That was my reason for waiting out for the 2010 book
I'm certainly working with my distributor. Meantime, since the book is still listed as in pre-order at Amazon.co.uk, you should be able to place a new pre-order.

What the form letter said, and what is actually happening can be two different things. The form letter said, "discontinued," and nothing in any of the systems shows that as being the case. If it was, then the book would not still be available for pre-order at Amazon.co.uk.
What probably happened is that, because the book was late, Amazon cancelled your orders, because that's one form of good customer service - don't hold people's money or order for too long if a product has been delayed. How they chose to explain that cancellation is a different matter.
