As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Okay, I live in Indiana. Grew up in Indianapolis, home of the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, and Butler Bulldogs. If you keep up with any sports, you may know that; The Pacers are floundering and the crowd opinion of them has swayed to the "I hate the Pacers" side, after the heydays of the "I love the Pacers", The Colts were once ridiculed and people in the city and state wondered why we had them. They are now the darlings of Indy. AND - the Butler Bulldogs just won the Regionals or something like that in Basketball and are now headed to the National Championships (here in Indy) and are being touted about.
So, here's my problem; people are acting as if they have backed the Bulldogs all this time. They're talking about "Our team", and having a jolly good time posting all sorts of "Way to Go Bulldogs" and "Butler rules" on facebook, etc. There was a party like atmosphere on the grounds of Butler today - the majority of people were just coming to see what was up.
This all bothers me. If you didn't support the team before, and wouldn't have supported the team if they hadn't made it this far - DO NOT GET ON the bandwagon.
Am I wrong? I know all about "showing support for the hometown favorite" - but they weren't! I know people that are die-hard IU fans, and they were all for IU making it and Butler losing, but jumped ship as soon as IU floundered.
It isn't just you, I definitely get annoyed to see that happen any time a team becomes successful. For instance, the Saints this year. I'm not saying they don't have some serious fans, because my Dad and brothers have been season ticket holders for years and love their Saints. However, you rarely heard much about them in our area (an hour east), but once it looked like they were headed to the Superbowl, it was 'Saint's Day!' every Friday and stuff like that. Everyone had Saint's fever, and I often wondered how many people could actually name even a handful of the players, other than the most well-known ones. I know I couldn't! (I'm a Red Sox/baseball girl.)
Have to say that I was rooting for WVU, even though I hate basketball, but only because that's my husband's alma mater, so he really wanted them to win.

I guess I'm on the opposite end of your opinion here. When a tiny school (a rival of ours) got the state bball championships a few years ago, I was definitely rooting for them. And when Northern Michigan went to the hockey finals a few weeks ago, I was rooting for them. I couldn't tell you a name of the person on the team, but I think it's cool when regional teams make it far in competitions. To me, it's just supporting your community.

Well put. Being a Mets and Jets fan, I rooted for the Giants and the Yankees when they were in the World Series and Super Bowl, but I am not a fan. But when your community, city, state is playing in such a big game, such as the NCAA tournament, it's easy to get caught up in the excitiement. The problem I have is those that say they are "fans", when they don't even understand the game that team is playing.

I don't know what side I am on, because Michigan State made it to the Final Four and I am cheering them on even though I don't really follow bball. I also would choose to cheer on U of M, as they are my favorite team. Don't know why though.

I agree with Tina, it's about supporting local institutions. And I'm not sure it should be a matter of who's the better fan. I'm sure for some of the smaller schools and teams, they can use all the fans they can get. Selling a few thousand extra sweatshirts and tickets, can only help them.
I went to a school with a fairly big football progam (one of a few big teams in New England). At first it seemed strange to see people wearing caps and sweatshirts with my school's name without having gone there, but now I just see it as additional funding for the team.

Reason: spelling
That's what I mean! suddenly, there are people yelling "Go Dogs", when they've never even seen a b-ball game!
Ditto that. I don't care if you support a team because it's your local team, or even because they're the under dogs. It's nice when people support their local teams and give them support. It's the sudden new onslaught of 'fans' that I am bothered by in most cases.

Down here we call those folks "Magic Market fans". They buy their gear at the magic market only when the teams start winning. Here in GA we find Magic Market fans mostly go for the University of Georgia and seldom for Georgia Tech. My family's ok with that.
I was pulling for Butler up until this final game. Sorry, but got to support the ACC. But during all my support I just could not yell "Go Dogs". Just couldn't do it.
I am a true Nebraska Cornhusker fan, and have been since grade school. But...I live in Kansas and root for KU...except when they play the Big Red!!! We all know what happened to KU in the NCAA tourney...so I rooted for K-State...we all know Butler beat K-State...so now I am rooting for Butler. They were never supposed to be in this game...and if they win...everyone is going to love them for awhile...until the next Cinderella team shows up during March madness. Let them have their moment...they deserve it...and your city deserves it!!! I am not a real KU, K-State or Butler fan...but I enjoy rooting for someone!! (I don't think Nebraska has ever been in the NCAA March Madness Tournament ever before, but I love to watch it so I have to root for someone else!!LOL)
