Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I am ashamed to admit it, but
I have raised two girls that are complete piglets! Yesterday I helped them clean their room, and it was AWFUL!!!! These girls never throw anything away, they just stuff it somewhere! The whole time we were cleaning, I would uncover some item and one girl would say, "I've been looking for that!" Well, no wonder! They probably had trouble finding their beds! And their bathroom! TERRIBLE!! These girls just won't put things where they belong. And they can't understand why they should! Has anyone else conquered this problem?

Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
Every year right before Christmas we go through the kids toys and throw out the junk (usually the Happy Meal toys), separate the MUST keeps from the nice to keeps and then from the nice to keeps try to decide on what to donate to the Salvation Army (we never give away anything broken or gross). Helps the kids make the decision. I'm not very tolerant of their rooms being messy - probably because I grew up in a military household, but they're kids and it does happen. Don't be too hard on yourself!

Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
I quit cleaning up DS's room when he was 10! If he wants to live in a pig sty, then let him. He's in college now, but still lives with us and his bedroom looks worse than it ever has! I give up!

Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
I don't have any solutions to offer. I have two DD, ages 3 and 1 so it's not really a problem here yet.
My Dad was also military. We used to have inspections when I was a kid. Horrible. He'd even check the door mouldings for dust as well as pull the beds out from against the walls. If there was even dust, grounded for the week! (no phone, no sights, no motor car ... LOL ... not a single luxury) It wasn't just our rooms though, we had a check list of chores that had to be done right too.
I'm not going to be that tough with my kids. It was brutal!

Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
My 4 and 1/2 year old DD has to clean her room every night before bed.. Supposedly. She ends up going to sleep before the room gets clean a lot of the time. She tells me, "Little girls don't like cleaning their rooms," by way of explanation for why this is okay. Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
I don't know if this will make you feel any better... But when I was a kid I used to be terrible about this. It wasn't till I moved out of my parnets house that I got better. Now if you come into my house you will always find it clean. I'm not saying we are neat freaks... But I have turned into my mother on this one.

Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
Thanks for the word of encouragement Mel, but I hope I don't have to wait until they've moved out before they learn to pick up!
I don't think I'm fanatical about cleanliness, but I do wish they would just learn to put things where they belong, like the trash can!
I've just went into their room this morning, and it looks almost as bad as it did before we cleaned it up Monday! ARGGH!!!! I NEED A VACATION!

Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
I think that's kids for you. There are so many exciting things to do that they don't have time to clean their rooms and in the next breath they are complaining that they are bored.

Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
I have three boys and a husband who works at home (meaning he does his work at home, he does not do housework) and the whole house is a pigsty. If my mother was still alive, I would be embarassed to have her see it. But since I work full-tome I can't come near making it tidy so I just clean my own area and yell at the men.

Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
Having an 18 y/o and an 11 y/o I have learned to "pick and choose my fights". Having a clean room, although would make me very happy, is not a priority. I have learned to close my eyes and close their doors.

Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
My sister and I were so bad. You couldn't open our closet door and our mattresses practically sat on the junk under the bed rather than on the rails! I have, however, grown up to be a neat-nick and cannot relax unless the house is perfectly neat.
I went into my 13 yr old sister-in-law's room the other day . I asked her if anyone got hurt in the explosion! Her dad told me he was going to yell, but decided it was easier to just shut the door. My DH is just like his sister , so I end up picking up after him constantly! I keep trying to stick to "that's it! I'm not picking up after you anymore," but I can't take it!

Re: I am ashamed to admit it, but
Here I was thinking my DD was the only one. I walked in to her room yesterday and there were 19 shoes in the middle of the floor and I had 6 pairs in my hand that she had left around the house (I wonder where that missing shoe is?).
I went to go kiss "Miss Imelda" goodnight last night and I heard her leap from the bed while she shouted "Don't come in yet, Daddy!" I walked in anyway to see her throwing the shoes into a pile in the corner of the room. She was sitting right next to her empty shoe bin! I was ROTF! She said she knew I'd be upset at how messy her room was so she was trying to clean up the shoes before I came in. When I pointed out the empty shoe bin less than six inches from her she said, quite simply, "Oh yeah!"
She is a sweet girl but we try to choose our battles wisely.
