As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

A VERY close call for us tonight
So ya'll know I've been doing loads and loads of laundry in preparation for this trip. Well tonight I guess the dryer decided it had had just about enough and decided to catch on fire. DRAMA! Ya'll I was right there when it happened, and thankfully I pulled the cord immediately or we could have been in some serious trouble - smoke everywhere, the smoke detector went off, kids crying, dog barking, wife screaming - I'm telling you it was SCARY! Anyway, after the drama I called the fire department and asked them to come out just to ensure nothing was still hot. I told them it was not an emergency, there were no flames or anymore smoke, but you'd have thought it was a three alarm fire! Sirens and two big hook and ladder trucks pull up in front of the house! Neighbors peeking out their windows and coming over to see if the house would burn to the ground. GOOD GRIEF! Anyway, to make a long story short the dagone motor burned out - it's only 6 years old for crying out loud. How long should a dryer last?!? We are all counting our blessings tonight, though, and I'm officially done with laundry. I'll be going out tomorrow to purchase a new dryer in hopes in can be delivered the day after we get back to wash all of our dirty clothes from the trip! Can I just tell you how stressed out I am!?!? Anyway, Praise God I was there and smart enough to pull that plug. Thanks for letting me vent! I so need this trip!

Close call Steve! Glad that everything is OK, except your dryer that is. Did I miss something? Do they know about the trip? Won't your wife wonder why you have to wait so long to get the new dryer delivered?

Re: A VERY close call for us tonight
Oh gosh, Steve! That's awful and scary! I hope everyone is okay. It definately takes a while to calm down after something like that happens. Dryers should last longer than 6 years. I have had two my entire adult life. My first one lasted 15 years and my second is still kicking pretty well. Make sure you ask, when you get your new one. It really isn't the end of the world and thank goodness noone got hurt or the fire didn't spread!
Your friend,
Tara
Surely this means that you will have an extra special trip!

Good thing you were there. Never run a dryer if not home at the time. (ol firefighter here)

Wow ... scary! So glad you're all okay and that no major damage was done.
Go hug your wife and kids and tell 'em it's from all your PassPorter friends, 'kay?

Re: A VERY close call for us tonight
WHEW, thank God there was no more damage than the dryer and a few scared family members.
Hey, way to distract everybody in case someone was getting suspicious that you've got a surprise up your sleeve. And now your neighbours have something to talk about!

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Remember that beer thread?!? I'm enjoying a nice Sam Adams right now! LOL!
Thanks ya'll - the scariest thing is to think about what could have happened. We are sticklers for not running the major appliances if no one is home or even after the last person (usually me) hits the sack. Don, I'm sure, has seen it all - good advice, sir!

What luck! Hope you got all the necessary items washed and dried.
If DH did laundry I'd know something was up, so I'm assuming you do laundry regularly?

Re: A VERY close call for us tonight
Wow, Steve, and I thought I had a wild beginning to my trip! Glad everything is okay and everyone is safe!
I know how you feel, though. I was housesitting once, years ago, and lightening struck, causing the TV outlet to flash and the power strip to short out. Just to be on the safe side, I called the fire dept., and told them the same thing (no flames,but...), and they said they'd send someone out. Well, just in case, I ran upstairs and put on make-up. Yep, they were very cute and very nice to me! How's that for having my priorities in order?
BTW, it's really easy to replace a dryer motor, and much cheaper than buying a new one. I used to do a lot of do-it-yourself appliance repair during the grad school years.
Hope the rest of your night is uneventful!

I'm glad you and your Family are all alright! That sounds so scary. Thank GOD you were home. I often do laundry and leave the house. After reading your post, I won't be doing that anymore!
So glad you guys are OK.

Re: A VERY close call for us tonight
Glad to hear that everyone is okay and that you kept a level head. (You sound like Walt. Everybody panics and he does the most sensible thing.) Also, not a bad idea to call the fire dept. It's not unusual for even new dryers to blow a motor like that. Check your warranty before you buy a new dryer. It may cover you in case of an untimely blowout if it's within the standard ten-year period.
And after all that excitement, who's going to expect a surprise trip to WDW!
