As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm heading to the World in 3 weeks time and will be renting an ECV for the first time for the length of my stay from Walker Mobility. I'm wondering if I should maybe pack an extension cord or something, like one of the heavy duty orange ones, in case I can't get the scooter close enough to an outlet in the room to plug it in.
Also will I have any issues getting it through the hotel room door? We really don't want to have to request a handicapped room as I am mobile enough to not require a handicapped shower or anything. I have stress fractures in my left shin and a removable walking cast on my leg which allows me to use a normal tub and shower.
One other question, how long will the charge on the scooter last? Will it go all day? We have one day planned where we're spending the day in AK from park opening until at least 5pm, then we have a 7:30pm dinner at Raglan Road and we are thinking of heading to MK after dinner as it's open until 1am that night. Will the scooter go that long?
I've never rented one before, never had the need, so my mom and I have a lot of questions. Oh and we're staying at the Poly if that helps.

The charger cord should be long enough for you. I have never had any trouble with it reaching the wall..
The doors are all wide enough to get through. If you start off fully charged you should have no trouble lasting all day & evening..
The charge lasts a good 10 hours. Remember to always turn off the key any time you are stopped for a few minutes Or, parked. This will prolong the charge.

So as long as I turn it off when I go on rides and meals and stuff it should last through the day? There are times when I plan on doing some walking and leaving the scooter at the hotel (the joy of being at the Poly) and then going back for it.

It looks as if our resident scooter specialist has already answered your question.
I think you'll be in great shape because the Poly is so convenient. You won't be wasting steps and energy with the transportation station or in the parking lots.
Your best park to leave the scooter might be MK if you take the monorail. I'd take advantage of the many benches in the parks. Have your coffee, Mickey Bar, water, Dole Whip, or whatever you like and people watch while you rest. You can see if you can notice details in the scenery that you'd never noticed before to make your break more interesting.

I hope you have a magical trip. Be sure to ask any other questions you might have.
You think I'd be able to manage the Magic Kingdom without the scooter? With just the walking cast on? My concern is the cast is pretty heavy. It adds about 10 lbs the weight of my left foot and I tire quickly because of it. It also alters the way I walk slightly which then affects my other leg, which also has a slight stress fracture in it.
I'm concerned about waiting in long lines because of it as well. I have the cast on because I have 2 stress fractures in my leg, one in top third of the shin bone (which the cast doesn't really do much for) and one in the bottom third, which is the worst of the two fractures and the cast helps.

To be honest, only you, your doctor, and any therapist you might have could answer that question. My motto is better safe than sorry.
One attraction you DON'T want to visit is Disney Medical!
You can maybe try walking around the mall or a park as a test-run and see how that goes.
You will have the scooter, I would use it at MK..
You can always park & walk, then it's handy when you need it
I also like to do a bit of walking to help with the pain I get from sitting too long. It stretched the body & I always know the scooter in near by ..

That was my thinking. Like for lunch, we like to go to Columbia Harbor House and we like to eat upstairs so I could park it outside and then climb up the stairs to have lunch which would let me walk around the restaurant for a bit.

Taek the scooter to MK. Coulda, woulda, shoulda cries a guest. You do not have to use the scooter all the time. For me it is cumulative daily wear and tear. It is like when you leave your blanket and sweatshirt in the car only to later need them. Better to be prepared and have the scooter. Also scooters make good mules for carrying bags and water bottles.
I like to walk around a bit as I am used to setting on my bed cross legged and getting up to do chores or stretching my legs as need be. I am more comfortable on a floor or bed. For me the chair on a scooter wears me out faster than the walking at times. Do not be afraid to use the scooter, park it, and then wander around a bit.

It's actually probably best if I have the scooter with me most of the time unless we're only at the park for a few hours (like DHS which we're only going to for a couple hours to see the lights and ride ToT) seeing as I actually have 3 stress fractures, 2 in the leg that has the cast and 1 in the other leg which can start hurting if I do too much on it.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, Maybe consider bringing the scooter to Hollywood Studios ! In order to get to Tower of Terror, you have to walk clear to one end of the park. To get to the lights, you have to walk all the way to the other end.
Also, the walk from the bus stations, or down the row to the tram if you drive, is LOTS of steps.

Then you have standing in line to think about.
You're right, I forgot about that. I'm doing the Keys to the Kingdom tour in the morning then we're heading back to the Poly for a couple hours before heading to DHS for Tot and maybe Toy Story Mania and the Lights before heading to the Yacht Club for dinner at Captain's Grill. The scooter may come in quite handy.
