As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Summer boredom
Well, DD has been out of school since Thursday afternoon and the summer dulldrums have already inhabited her body!
I told (for the 100th time) I wasn't going to watch her mope around the house all summer and she couldn't have a friend over every day.
Here's my list of activities she could chose from:
1) read a book, she has to every day anyway
2) do workbooks, she has to every day anyway
3) play Gameboy
4) clean her bathroom
5) empty trash
6) play outside
7) get your Disney for Kids book and make some plans for what you want to do
Guess what she picked?
So, my advice for those of you with kids who are old enough to read, GET THE BOOK!

LOL!! That didn't take long, did it? Gosh, what these kids don't know about the lazy summer days - she'll long for those days one day! We got our kids that book for our last trip and I'd second the motion!

Re: Summer boredom
Our schools got out last week as well here in the Florida panhandle; and they return around 8/13 or 15 whatever the Monday would be. Same thing in Dunwoody (Atlanta area) where my mom lives! - Yet my nephew in Brooklyn doesn't get out until 6/26 or 27!

Re: Summer boredom
My kids here dont end school til 6/18! I dont know what I would do if they were out of school now!
I do also suggest getting the book for kids who are older and can read. My daughter brought the book down to Disney and still from time to time will open it up and read it so she will be prepped for the next time!

Re: Summer boredom
I use to hate summer vacation before I went back to work! Seems like every kid in the neighborhood hung out at our house. Used to drive me crazy! Now our son is almost 20 and in college (local) and when all his buddies are home from their colleges, guess where they hang out?! Oh well, I guess I won't have any peace and quiet until he gets married and moves out.

Re: Summer boredom
LOL! Take it as a compliment that they want to hang there! They must consider it a cool place!
We grew up with a pool in our backyard - only one of two in the whole neighborhood and all the kids seemed to either hang out at our house or our neighbor's - and I remember the moms scooting us from one house to another (I think so that they could swim! HA!)

Re: Summer boredom
I had one that loved school so much that he was ugly all summer.
We ordered Summer Weekly Reader for them. This way they had mail and something new to do each week.
The youngest joined summer swim team which took him from June to the end of July.
Our school will be out June 5, 6 or 7. Don't know when cause I don't have anyone in school now.

Re: Summer boredom
Our son's school gets out on June 19th (his birthday) but little does he know that his last day is the 13th. I have planned an un-birthday party for him at school that day and the teachers there know not to say anything to him about leaving. As far as the summer is concerned, because of his learning disability we always sign him up for summer school. It's only 3 hrs a day for four weeks but it really does help him retain things for when school starts again. For the rest of the time he & DH will walk down 4 houses and hang at the beach on the lake we live at while I'm at work.

Re: Summer boredom
Bert & Sully,
My DD is 8-1/2. I bought her the book back in the winter. She was excited about it at the time, looked at it for the weeked and stuck in her bookcase. She got it out this morning and started making notes. She's so like me!
In Texas children have to be in school something like 185 days. We got out Thursday and don't go back until Aug. 19. That's a week later than usual, but Texas parents are trying to pass a new law where children don't have to start school until after Labor Day. It's just so darned hot here until September!

Re: Summer boredom
Tinksmom (and anyone else w/ bored kids),
The book sounds like a great idea, but what about some craft-related activities for the rest of the summer? If you have a Michael's Craft Store nearby, they have all kinds of craft classes for kids. Kind of a sneaky way to get them to do something creative (a.k.a., learn something new) and alleviate the boredom.
Scrapbooking comes immediately to mind -- she could put together a post-trip scrapbook (I'm assuming you're going sometime this summer?).
Another good, *clean* activity is soapmaking -- super-easy w/ the microwave stuff they have now, and if you get the supplies on sale, it's pretty cheap, too. Michael's has kits for kids to do soapmaking (w/some supervision), with easy instructions. I do this myself & give away the results. All my friends & fam just oooh & ahhh over them.
Also, there are a couple of how-to books for kids to learn to crochet. I taught my niece when she was 7 or 8 and she loves it.
Just a couple of ideas -- it can be a looooong summer when the kiddies get bored. Good luck!
