Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Boy, this really brings back great memories!
Close your eyes.....And go back........
Before the Internet or the MAC,
Before semi automatics and crack
Before chronic and indo
Before SEGA or Super Nintendo
Way back........
I'm talkin' bout hide and go seek at dusk.
Sittin' on the porch,
Hot bread and butter.
The ice cream man,
Eatin' a 'super dooper sandwich',
Red light, Green light.
Chocolate milk,
Lunch tickets,
Penny candy in a brown paper bag.
Playin' Pac-man in the corner store.
Hopscotch, butterscotch, doubledutch
Jacks, kickball, dodgeball, y'all!
Mother May I?
Hula Hoops and Sunflower Seeds,
Jolly Ranchers, blowpops, Mary Janes,
Grape and Watermelon Now-Laters (what about "Alexander the grape,"
"lemonheads")
Running through the sprinkler (I can't get wet! All right, well
don't wet my hair....)
The smell of the sun and lickin' salty lips....
Wait......
Watchin' Saturday Morning cartoons,
Fat Albert, Road Runner, He-Man, The Three Stooges, and Bugs,
Catchin' lightening bugs in a jar,
Playin sling shot.
When around the corner seemed far away,
And going downtown seemed like going somewhere.
Bedtime,
Climbing trees,
A million mosquito bites and sticky fingers,
Cops and Robbers,
Cowboys and Indians,
Sittin on the curb,
Jumpin down the steps,
Jumpin on the bed.
Pillow fights
Being tickled to death
Runnin till you were out of breath
Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt
Being tired from playin'.... Remember that?
I ain't finished just yet...
Crowding around in a circle around the 'after school fight', then
running when the teacher came.
What about the girl that had the big bubbly hand writing??
Eating Kool-aid powder with sugar
Didn't that feel good.. just to go back and say, Yeah, I remember
that!
There's nothing like the good old days! They were good then, and
they're good now when we think about them.
Share some of these thoughts with a friend who can relate, then
share it with someone that missed out on them.
One can't be serious ALL the time, eh?
Remember when...
When there were two types of sneakers for girls and boys (Keds & PF
Flyers), and the only time you wore them at school, was for "gym."
When it took five minutes for the TV to warm up.
When nearly everyone's mom was at home when the kids got there.
When nobody owned a purebred dog.
When a quarter was a decent allowance, and another quarter a huge
bonus.
When you'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny.
When girls neither dated nor kissed until late high school, if then.
When your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces.
When all of your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had
their hair done, everyday.
When you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped,
without asking, for free, every time. And, you didn't pay for air.
And, you got trading stamps to boot!
When laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden
inside the box.
When any parent could discipline any kid, or feed him or use him to
carry groceries, and nobody, not even the kid, thought a thing of it.
When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner
at a real restaurant with your parents.
When they threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed ...
and did!
When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to
the fate that awaited a misbehaving student at home.
Basically, we were in fear for our lives but it wasn't because of
drive by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents
were a much bigger threat!
and some of us are still afraid of em!!!

Re: Boy, this really brings back great memories!
Remember when? Steve, you mean you still don't catch fireflies in a jar? or watch Saturday morning cartoons?
I personally think this world would be in better shape if the kids of today would do some of the items on your list instead of being parked in front of a TV, Video game unit or computer 24/7.
Gosh, I remember having a lot of fun doing some of those things and I still like Saturday morning cartoons (and the cartoon network when in the mood) & I still enjoy chasing the fireflies around in the summer.......
Wasn't it Bob Hope who sang... "Thanks for the memories..."

Re: Boy, this really brings back great memories!
Ya know, with urban creep, I cannot even remember the last time I even saw a firefly! Aren't they extinct? And unfortunately, the Saturday morning cartoons these days (in Richmond at least) are pure junk, IMHO. I remember Loony Toons, the Bugs Bunny show, Land of the Lost, and Superheros (Wonder Twins rocked!) all while eating cereal that was way to sugary for me and staying in my pajamas until what seemed like 4:00 pm in the afternoon! How I long for simpler times for my kids. Sigh...

Re: Boy, this really brings back great memories!
Oh no!! Fireflies are definately NOT extinct! We live in front of a cemetery and catch quite a few of them in the summer! (My children are trying to make them extinct, though. They don't catch them very nicely!)

Re: Boy, this really brings back great memories!
Oh brother do we rember that. Those were the days. The best thing of all is that we did as much of that with our own kids as we could. Catching fire flies in a jar, and watching saturday morning cartoons. Oh yes one other thing, dinner at Grandmas house. Oh yes those were the days.

Well said, Steve. My mom (who lives with us) yells at my daughter, and I still stop dead in my tracks!

Re: Boy, this really brings back great memories!
Seems like only yesterday. Wouldn't it be great if we could wave a magic wand and everything could go back to those days. Did you mention the smell of the laundry when it came off the line? There are 2 more things
The smell of wet clothes on the radiator at school.
The paste that we got at school that was put in the jar that we brought from home.

Remember going to Disney World and using your book of tickets instead of one pass? I'm glad they changed things-too much pressure to savor the tickets!

Re: Boy, this really brings back great memories!
Remember when no one had VCR's, we all just had to wait for the re-run if you missed it the first time.
What about watches you had to wind...
Pixie Stix
Jiffy Pop
45's and LP's
going to the movies, and being allowed to watch it over and over without having to pay each time!
Monkey Bars and merry-go-rounds and swings
babydoll pajamas
GI JOE with the Kung Fu Grip
Drive In Theaters
