As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Job Blues :(
Oh well!!
It was bound to happen.
I was hit by the fourth round of layoffs in our company within a year, yet I was totally surprised. I have been out of work since 4-29; I have finally had some movement. I have a couple of Oracle DBA opportunities that seem to be opening up. This has been very hard for me as it's the first time I’ve been out of work since I was 16. I have no idea what to do with myself. I have been in total seclusion at my home, and I even stayed away from the boards, I have been way to depressed to even think about the world.
Today I have decided to get back on the horse that kicked me across the room and get on with it.
Sorry for the babbling. I just had to get this out of my system.
Thanks for listening,
Ted

Re: Job Blues :(
Sorry to hear that, Ted! Being a non-stop job hunter myself (always looking for something better), I know I've seen Oracle positions around, though I guess it depends on where you are.
Unemployment really stinks. Been there, done that -- and w/ a Ph.D. yet -- talk about depressing! I took a job as the Easter Bunny just to be employed and try to make ends come somewhere in the vicinity of meeting.
Hang tough and send out resumes to anything that you might be remotely qualified for. Something will come along. Good Luck!

Re: Job Blues :(
All is not lost, Ted! My DH got laid off last October and is just now starting to get callbacks about resumes that he sent out in November and December. Businesses are starting to hire again and they're looking for experienced people who want to work! Show them that you want the job and tell them that you're the man they're looking for! Don't be afraid to let them know that you want the job by being persistent. Follow up with a phone cal if you think it will help. And don't forget, your Passporter pals are a wealth of info. (Dadtojbj has been giving my DH some great advice and help!)

Re: Job Blues :(
Don't despair, Ted, and keep your chin up! If you are proactive about it, life has a way of turning out better than you'd imagined! It's normal to be depressed after any loss in life. Glad to see that you are coming out of your funk! Good luck in your search and here's hoping your new venture is worth your loss!

Re: Job Blues :(
I'm sorry to hear of your plight Ted. It has never happened to me, so I can not say "I know how you feel". I do hope things improve for you and your family.
Checking in here should help your spirits lift though.
Wanna get your NY insurance licenses? We are starting to look for a licensed sales person to move up to office manager. Long commute from Conn though.

Re: Job Blues :(
Hi,
I mostly lurk here, but I just wanted to know that you're not alone.
I moved to Baltimore from Pittsburgh in August of 2000 for an awesome job. In January 2001, I got laid off. They called me later that afternoon and asked me to come back for 30 days. I did being new in town I needed whatever I could get. At least I would have a job for another 4 weeks and get severance after that. Well, after the 30 was almost up, they offered me my job back permanently. Then...in May 2000 I got laid off again and three weeks later the company filed for bankruptcy. My brother was getting married that same weekend in Pittsburgh, so I just packed up a few bags and my cat and went "home." My mom rocks!!! I stayed with her...something I swore I'd never do after I graduated from college...anyway...long story even longer...it took me 7 months, but I got a great job in Pittsburgh!!
That seven months was one of the hardest times in my life, but my family and friends helped me through, even if it was just someone to vent to or a shoulder to cry on.
So vent/babble away!!! We are all here for you!!! I don't know how much help I will be in Pittsburgh, but I will definitely keep my eye out.

Re: Job Blues :(
I'm sorry to hear about this Ted. I've seen several people get "laid off" lately. And, I'm in the human service field ! Sometimes it has been something to anticipate other times it was yeah, by the way here's the door. I can truly say, of the people I know who have been most greatly affected, they say it was in God's plan and they are MUCH better shape. This is not necessarily financially, but, emotionally and spiritually, by far.
I have too been in the job hunt. While I didn't lose a position with my employeer, I've been "demoted" twice. It's embarassing, especially when it is not due to ability or performance. I've been demoted back to doing the job I was hired to do 6 years ago because of the extensive cut backs. I've been told by management that I should be happy I didn't lose my job. I've told them it would have been easier if I would have, because then I can move on instead of hanging on to what feels like a sinking ship.
I'm sorry to be so long winded about this, I guess there is more pinned up here than I realized .
Good luck to you Ted. Have faith, the opportunity of a lifetime may be around the corner (or what lead you to it). Pixie dust and prayers are with you!

Re: Job Blues :(
I think your feelings must be pretty normal. My husband lost his job a few weeks before my second child was born. His office was bought out and moved to Mass. We did not want to move there for the same piddly salary he had in NC, so he was out of work for a few months. It just made him feel terrible to not be working and providing for his family. He was lucky though, in that he had the chance to really get time with our son and then new daughter while he was out. And we ekked by until he was working again.
At a soccer game last weekend, I overheard two dads talking about losing their jobs. One guy has been out of work since November and the other for just a short time. These are some rotten times in the workplace in many areas.
