As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Calling all Girl Scout Leader
Hi Sue W.
I'm not a Leader, but my DD is about to "fly up" too!
Did you do well on your cookie sales? I have to turn in money tomorrow. We did pretty good.
I'd be glad to talk with you about Scouts.

Re: Calling all Girl Scout Leader
Not a leader, but I was a Brownie and a Junior Girl Scout.
Did you know that this week is Girl Scout Week? First troop met on March 21, 1912 in Savannah, GA.

Re: Calling all Girl Scout Leader
Was never a Girl Scout leader but I was a Girl Scout. Had 2 sons so I was an assistant den leader for Cub Scouts and a merit badge counselor for Boy Scouts. I'm also the mother of an Eagle Scout.
Enjoy your time as a Girl Scout leader.

Re: Calling all Girl Scout Leader
I feel for you, Sue! I miss Brownies so much. Our troop is in its second year of Juniors.
Are you going to fly up with them? We did two years of Brownies before Juniors. DH can't understand why I love being a leader so much. I told him to wait until DS starts with Boy Scouts, then he'll understand...
Ack!! Did somebody say cookies?! I'm also this year's cookie slave, um...er, Cookie Mom to those who haven't had the privilege of holding that position, yet. I'll be glad when its over, and the girls can work on planning some more fun activities. They've earned it!
Big hugs and thanks to everyone who bought Girl Scout cookies this year and supported our Girls!!

Re: Calling all Girl Scout Leader
I am a Daisy Girl Scout Leader in CT. I have 8- 5 and 6 year olds in my troop. They are a lot of fun. My girls will be bridging to Brownies at the end of this school year. I am really excited to be a Brownie Leader. This year we couldn't raise funds at all (ie cookies), so next year will be my first experience with it. I am taking my girls on their first Field Trip to the State Police barracks where they will earn their "Respect Authority" petal to complete their Daisy on their tunics. Being a leader is a lot more work than I expected, bu also a lot more fun. Sometimes it's tough because I also have a 3 year old son, so I have to try to plan meetings and things around my husband's schedule so he can stay home with my little guy (who incidentally wishes he could be a Daisy too).
I am glad that I read this post. It's nice to chat with others in the same boat. Thanks!

Re: Calling all Girl Scout Leader
Princess Aurora, I have a 3 year old son who went to all the meetings with me for the first two years. (This year, he has had to stay with daddy while sissy and I go to meetings, since now he doesn't sit quietly in his stroller anymore. )
Imagine his surprise to discover that he wasn't a Girl Scout, after all! lol
He loves to go to meetings, even if it's just to pick us up, and loves to "sell" Girl Scout cookies with his big sissy! (He's one of her best customers. )
I can hardly wait until he's ready for Boy Scouts! Do you think I've done any permanent damage? LOL

Re: Calling all Girl Scout Leader
I have a daughter that is a first year Cadette, one that is a first year Junior, and the daughter that I am a leader for that is a thrid year Brownie. My 6 year old son has done a ton of activities with the Girl scout. He also knows every camp song that ever was. Last year when we were checking the girls in at summer resident camp he entertained everyone with his rendition of the ols camp song favorite "Tarzan - swinging on a rubber band". The more people laughed the louder he sang. This year he is a Tiger Cub Scout and is most put out that he is too little yet for Boy Scout Camp.
By the way, I am also athe Service Unit Manager. Phew!!!!!!
We had our council cookie sale in October wgich is nice since you get the profits in Mid November instead of the end of the year.

Re: Calling all Girl Scout Leader
How did you all get involved with scouts? I always wanted to be a girl scout and am looking forward to scouts with my little one. I have a few years to go (I'm due in July, after all), but would love to hear more about finding a troop and getting involved with scouts! Do either the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts have a web site?

Re: Calling all Girl Scout Leader
I was so excited when I saw this post I started jumping up and down and broke my desk chair.
I am a life time Girl Scout (10 years as a Girl, 9 years as a registered adult). I have been a Daisy, Brownie and Junior Leader. I am a Council Trainer. I have servered as Service Unit Manager, Organizer, Consutlatnt, and just about any other position on Servcie Team that no one else would take.
How can I help?
Beaner, you don't have to a daughter old enough to be a Girl Scout to get involved. Call or email your local Girl Scout Council and ask how you can help. If you don't know your local council you can find them at www.girlscouts.org. That is our national website and they have a council finder link.
I started back as an adult before I had children. It has been great! I love everything I do for and with Scouts.
So again I ask, how can I help. Either post here or send me an email. I have tons of ideas as a trainer, and if you email me I will mail you stuff in exchage for a council patch.
Can't wait to hear from you!

Re: Calling all Girl Scout Leader
Beaner,
Every individual council has a patch unique to them. I will try to find ours and post a picture. Coucils and leaders collect them. It's a way to connect with other Girl Scouts and Leaders.
