As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi All!
My DH said we can go back to Disney World in 2010. I was thinking the end of August. I have never been to Florida in the Summer, and I was wondering about the heat and the crowds. It will be 4 of us going. Me, DH, and 2 DS's aged 8 and 7 when we go. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Marianna
We went last year for the first time in mid August, we ususally go in September. It was boiling hot. We had a 1 yr old and a just turning 3 yr old. They were miserable and cranky. I refuse to go in August again! We would dose their little heads in water while in line. It was crowded too. We waited at least 30 min for a 2 min dumbo ride. I love september!!! Us on the TTA trying to cool off.
It is extremely hot and humid! This is one time of the year that we would not go there unless we had no other choice. If you do decide to go be very prepared. Drink water constantly, where light clothing, use sunblock, and get inside if you start to feel faint or ill at all. If you really feel sick, take off your shoes once you get inside because your body will cool down quicker. But, I would not recommend August as a time to go unless you are used to that kind of heat.
Hot and humid. Some showers may occur mid-afternoon each day. At the end of August, crowds are not bad, as many families are already back in school at that point.
We've been mid to late August twice! It's hot, and humid. But it's hot and humid pretty much anywhere in the US at that point! Drink lots of water, take afternoon breaks, and you'll be fine! Crowds should be lower since most schools start to go back in session!!
We've gone once in August before and heading back in August again this year. It is very hot and humid, but then again it's hot and humid here at home too. We drink lots of water, hit up the water rides like Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain, and wander stores if we start getting too hot. Most of the rides are indoors anyway out of the heat. Heat and humidity usually really bothers me and I do fine. AK is the only one that is really rough for me. That place always seems hotter than the other parks. One plus is longer park hours so you can always head back to the resort for a nap or a swim, then hit the parks again at night when it cools off. The crowds didn't seem as bad as when I went once in July. Rain seems hit or miss for us. I've gone in July and August when it didn't rain once either trip, then once in December where it absolutely poured for one day.
When we go in summer we swim during the day and go to parks at night. Drink lots of water and walk slow. If you hurry in that kind of humidity you'll get tired and cranky fast.
I actually love to go the last two weeks of August! The extra park hours are great and there is no where near the amount of people there as there is in July - not bad waits at all. I am from WAY upstate NY (up by the Canadian border) so I am not usually very good in the heat - but for some reason it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. We always wear sunscreen, drink lots of water (not soda or juices because they don't replenish the fluids in your system) and we have no problems at all. We very rarely even go back to the hotel in the afternoon. Have a great time!!
We were worried about this too. Our wedding is August 1st and we had initially planned on postponing our honeymoon a month or so to avoid the weather/crowds. Then with work schedules it was going to be hard to postpone so we decided to just go for it. My sister and her husband ended up at Disney World for their honeymoon after they missed their cruise. They went around August 6th and stayed for a week. They said the heat was only a problem if you don't drink water. Drinking water and taking breaks in air conditioning worked well for them. And they said that it only rained once. My BIL can't stand heat so if he could tolerate it I'm sure that I'll be fine. They said the crowds were another story. Busy, busy, busy.
We go in June because of HS age children can't take off except in summer and sometimes even June heat and humidity can make you feel faint. I would never go in August unless I had no choice.
DBF and I went this past August. We went from the 16-24th...overall crowds were low however this may have been due to the tropical storm that we enjoyed all week Overall though I would prob. go again this time of year.
We went the last two weeks of August this past year. We didn't have to worry about the crowds, heat, humidity or the sun. It downpoured nearly every day from tropical storm Fay and left me and me dd sick for weeks after we were home. Otherwise than that...no problem!
It's hot and humid. Drink plenty of water and mid day breaks are essential! But it is manageable. This is what we do: get up early and be at a park at RD, leave shortly after lunch and go back to resort, take a nap in the AC cool, get up, shower and change clothes, head back to a park for the evening, back to resort for an evening swim. You just have to take everything at a more relaxed pace. DO NOT try to go commando in August!
