As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

View Poll Results: What kind of washing machine do you own?
Since we just bought a new house, we are starting to look at appliances. It has been years since I have really looked, and there seems to be a lot more options out there now. I am wondering what your thoughts are on front loading v. top loading washers? What experiences have you had and what brands/types would you recommend? Also what sizes would you recommend for both washers and dryers? Any and all help will be much appreciated!
We recently Got a wonderful Maytag top loader w/ Stainless Steel tub..
Don't like the front loaders because I am too old to bend over & load & unload it
Always afraid of a leak too.. ( The washer not me)

I have to have a top loader b/c of the tie dye, but having used a front loader before, I don't want one. I've read lots of problems with clothing being damaged in them for starters. My policy is to buy the simplest, cheapest model there is. That way, when it dies, it's not a bank-breaker to replace it or if it's a simple mechanical thing, it's much cheaper to fix than all the bells and whistles. I'm a simple laundry person anyway and basically use one cycle for everything. Unless the washer loads itself, washes, dries, unloads, folds, hangs, and puts away, I'm not spending any extra on it!
The views and opinions expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily represent or reflect those of The Walt Disney Company and Affiliated Companies

Top loaders only here! We had a front loader thinking the water saving thing was a great idea......NOT!!! I've come to the conclusion that you need water to wash clothes! The small amount of water left the clothes less than clean and ruined many of them - never again for us!
Just bought a set of GE frontloaders this summer, and love them, especially that the washer uses much less water than the old top loader. I read somewhere (maybe from Lowes website) that you should aim to get a dryer that has nearly double the capacity of the washer so that you can dry in the same amount of time as the wash, and streamline laundry day. Before, it took twice as long to dry as to wash. That is what I purchased and it has been a big help. The people at Home Depot seemed to think I was crazy for buying a mismatched set, but who cares waht they think? Its also great that the dryer has a sensor - no more checking to see if stuff is dry or not .

We used to have top loaders but once they died we bought front loaders. Well I have to say that we will NEVER have a top loader again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I find that the front loaders wash our clothes so much better and cleaner than a top loader does. We have LG's (brand name) and now I love doing laundry!!!!!!!!!
Our dryer has a sensor that will dry the clothes according to the wetness found (if this makes any sense). Like if I have "air dried" some of DD's clothes but I want to unwrinkle and still dry them, the machine senses that they don't need high heat.

We have some of the original Whirlpool Duets. We bought the pedestals so we wouldn't have to bend over too far to load and unload them.
I like them - but I don't love them. I don't think I'd ever love a washing machine. The only way I'd love it would be if it completed each load from sorting to hanging up clean.
The only thing I'd want a top loader more for would be to soak clothes. With my Lauren, it would be convenient!! The kid can get filthy in a sterile room! Other than that, I like them fairly well, and we've only had minor problems with them, mostly due to kids not treating them correctly. (the latest was a broken switch from the kids being too rough when they loaded the washer and broke a switch off)
I have a top loader Maytag washer. Bought it about 5yrs ago when we moved in here. Matching set. Now the washer never had problems with but I've had the dryer fixed twice already. I've also read about the water saving thing and energy with the front load washers and have had several sales people tell me that as well but I really don't know much about them. I may consider one if this washer ever dies.
Now dishwashers are what I'm interested in if anyone has any info on that! I would love to replace mine. Its the original and over 10yrs old. So noisy but I don't have a clue about any of them!

We have had our front loader for about 4 years now. I love it. Definately uses less water, and cleans extremely well. Never had any repair issues or leaking issues.
I have a top loader now - but am planning on a front loader (less water used) when this one dies.
Us too We were just out at Home Depot this weekend looking at them. All our appliances are 11 years old, and I'm afraid they're all going to crap out at the same time Make sure to get a copy of Consumer Reports and look at their recommendations, for whichever one you decide to go with
I have a top loader and love it. We purchased GE's Harmony Profile washer and dryer about 2 years ago. I absolutely love these machines. I had to watch the dvd provided when I first got them becuse they were so many functions. I can wash atleast 16 pairs of jeans at once. They are huge. It also uses less energy, less water and less soap, which has been hard for me to get used to. The other feature I love is that the washer sends the information over to the dryer and sets up the drying time. Very convenient to me. I would still like it if it didn't do that. It's cool too, because it doesn't make the same sounds as my previous washer did and it is quieter. I love it and would buy it again in a heart beat. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I have a top loader right now but hope to someday own a front loader. They seem to spin alot faster/better to get more water out of the clothes, thus decreasing drying time.
That being said, there's no way I'd spend the 2K wanted for the top of the line models out right now. I don't need all those bells and whistles-just one or two cycles to get the clothes clean is fine with me!
I have 14 year old Maytags and they still work great. The washer is a top loader. I've often wondered about switching to front load, but don't know what I'd decide if I could choose right now..
