As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

You've won the lottery and, being a good citizen , you've set aside 3 million dollars to donate or begin a charitable organization(s).
Do you donate locally, nationally, or internationally? And which charities?
There are three that are very close to my heart that we currently support and I could never choose between them. So I'd gladly split that donation three ways - La Leche League of the Poconos (new mom hospital bags for nursing moms and free lactation consultation for those with advanced or unusual needs that can't be met by volunteer moms), the Tobyhanna, PA VFW (senior veteran support), and the local food bank. The food bank is run by a church in town and they supplement it with a very low-cost second-hand store. They desperately need more space and they are completely volunteer-run. A little money goes a long way.

I would donate either locally or nationally - probably to our local children's hospice, Guide Dogs for the Blind, as they do an amazing job, Children in Need and the Donkey Sanctuary.
I have to admit, I haven't done a lot of research on donations such as this! I give little amounts here and there to various charities. But if it was such a huge amount, I'd probably give it all for animals. Local, National, or International, I'd divide it up and make sure it went to the right places to help animals in need.

I would donate to several local organizations as there is quite a bit in need around here this holiday season. My biggest gifts would probably be to the local Girl Scout Council and my local food bank as these were near and dear to me growing up.
I would probably donate locally and nationally and would first honor two dear people I lost to breast cancer: My Aunt Peggy and my sister's best friend Sue as well as my mother who is a breast cancer survivor by donating a third of it to the Susan G. Komen fund or something similar. I would also donate a third to Cystic Fibrosis research as my DH's best friend's son suffers from this disease and finally I would donate a third to a local food bank probably Philabundance.

I would first give to my church, then to the diabetes association (since I am diabetic) and the local pound (they never have enough money : ) and the local group that feeds the homeless every day.
I would donate locally to various organizations I am involved with and nationally to support Breast Cancer Research (my mother and grandmother are both survivors) and the Lupus Foundation (my father is living with this awful disease).
I would probably gove some to a couple of national organizations I support, but most would go locally to Children's Miracle Network and Griffin's Friends. Both were great to my daughter and her family when my DGD had her cancer surgery and chemo.
My family is really into community service, so I can think of a lot of local organizations that we already give to (with either time or money or both), that could definitely use a piece of that $3 million. I'd definitely give to my Junior League's charity fund - each year we hold a fundraiser for a different charity, and not only does it raise money, but also raises awareness of the program/need. I still give to past year's charities that I might would have not been aware of had the JL not exposed the community to it.
I'm a member of Kiwanas, so I know I would give money to them. Also my church, which does so much good work - food bank, discretionary fund for needy families, adopt-a-highway, etc. Happy Hills Animal Foundation, our local no-kill shelter. And the Farmer's Alliance, which my grandmother is a stockholder in. They need all the help they can get!
We already do a little of all 3 . . . little being all we really can do right now. Not all of them are necessarily "charities" but the money does get put to good use. If we had more money, we'd certainly make a larger donation to each.
We donate locally to DD's Girl Scout troop and the Council. We also put in some money each year to help plan and fund the kids' Christmas party for DH's squadron (without money, there is no party for the kids . . . and no Santa visit. The party happens even if the squadron is deployed and those types of things are real important for the families of the deployed. )
Nationally, we give to to ASPCA and a couple of Navy related things through the Combined Federal Campaign.
Internationally, we give a little to the ONE Campaign and the Save Darfur Coalition.
I'd give $1M to ALS research (thanks to Renee and her sister, Aimee for opening my eyes), and the rest I would donate to my son's special education preschool. They have given me an invaluable gift: the gift of communication with my boy. So even the tidy sum of $2M wouldn't be enough to give them. CRAYONS FOR EVERYONE! Just kidding - I would hope that they would use the money for a permanent music program in the school.

Like Dyan, I'd earmark half or more to agencies that assist victims of Domestic Violence because IMO, there's not even close to enough resources available for these individuals.
Another agency that would receive from me would be the ASPCA-American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
