Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Talking A little back to school fun...34 years ago, I was suspended from the 3rd grade...

Poseidon got me suspended from the 3rd grade! Upon returning to school at the end of the Summer, we had the obligatory "What I Did This Summer" essay (along with illustration). I wrote about our travels through Turkey, Bulgaria, and Greece, but am NO artist. As such, I copied a picture from a book that included a photo of a statue of Poseidon we had seen, only, being a 3rd grader, I enhanced a certain part of his anatomy a bit (details are SO hard to copy!). I still remember the thudding sound my 3rd grade teacher made before she hauled me down to the principal's office as a pornographer (and I had NO idea what that even was...) Happily, he was a friend of the family and as well-travelled so after the parent meeting, I was allowed back to class without having to wear a red "P" on my shirt for the rest of the year.

I will say, I almost fell down the stairs of the Adventurer's Club at Downtown Disney the first time I set eyes on THAT statue (only their version is family-friendly and not AT ALL like the real thing...)

So, fess up, were you ever suspended or in deeeeeep trouble at school?

yes but all i can say is that i waited until about 2 weeks until I was to graduate to get in trouble and lets just say that with my good school record it was what let me graduate. Boy was it close!

Can't say more sorry.

Oh, you are looking at one of the inventors of trouble at school.
The only thing that saved me was my Dsis. I'd get in trouble and the teachers would just mumble - "but, I had your sister and she's so sweet and so brilliant. You must just be having a bad day or something" (it helped that I grew up around the time that schools started with the "children need to explore their boundries" theories)

2 things that stand out - in 4th grade, I wrote a note: Who Ever Sits in this seat is the Creature from the Black Lagoon. And stuck it in a desk. On the first day of school before anyone got there. And Dumb Me, later in the day after the letter had been found and someone cried, when the teacher said "Now, let's all write 'Whoever sits here is the most loved person'", didn't realize that she was going to be comparing handwriting!! BUSTED!
The lady that lived behind us was our first grade teacher, and she came and vouched for me with the new teacher. I had to apologize and write an essay on why my letter was wrong.

Fifth grade. I found out that before you call the teacher in the NEW school a "Dumb witch that is the mooooooost booooring person I've ever been made to listen to, and isn't anywhere near as intelligent as any of the kids in this room" (Accelerated program) - you need to make sure that the PRINCIPAL who is a retired Marine isn't also her BIG BROTHER!!! He had VERY interesting ideas on punishment. After the suspension he wanted me to serve. Thank goodness I had parents that agreed with me, and told him if when she asked why I was reading a book while she was lecturing she hadn't wanted the truth, she shouldn't have asked it.

The worst one though was freshman year of high school. I failed Junior Honors English because I bit and kicked (in a certain male area) my DENTIST! Whose sister was my instructor. HIPPA laws would have saved me then! I learned then and there that my sister was right to make me keep all of my assignments (all As). I went to the Dean of Boys (friend of my dad's) and he got my grade changed.

I was such a nerd......got caught throwing a french fry at my friend at lunch and the asst. principal told me to meet him at the office. I tried to meet him but he was dealing with real troublemakers.....he looked embarrassed for me and actually thanked me for meeting him like I was told! No further trouble.

I skipped school ALOT as a junior and senior, but my grades and my fake notes from my Mom were very good so I got away with it!

I got caught in 3rd (or maybe it was 4th) grade "giving the finger" in line after recess (we were all trying to see if we could do it)... I had to bring a note from my mom.... which I forged... on that grade school paper that all kids practice writing on (uh... Duh!)... and believe it or not got away with it!

(BTW - Dawn - your story reminds me of the actual statues of himself that Sylvester Stallone has around his pool which are, shall we say, 'enhanced' in those certain male parts .)

I got kicked out of US History class my junior year because Shawn Lowell wrote on my arm and I said a choice swear word to him.

Sister Roseanna sent me to Monsenior in Catechism when I was in 4th grade because I kept asking her "How?" and "Why?" Always the scientist!

I was paddled in front of the class in 7th grade science for laughing when the cute boy who sat next to me tickled me. Might of been worth it!
In high school biology I stuck my teasing needle through our poor grasshopper specimen, proceeded to "hop" it across the desk where it stuck to my friend's fuzzy pink sweater. She fainted (always dramatic). I was sent to the office, where I waited for a long time and finally a secretary said, "Honey, I don't even know who you are. Give me that referral." She tore it up, threw it away and sent me back to class. Whew. Glad that's not on my permanent record.

I was such a "goody goody" that this one from the fifth grade was a big deal - Everyday when classes were over, the kids who were still waiting for busses would get rowdy if our teacher was the one on bus duty. So the guys would jump up and knock the clock off the wall, walk on top of the desks, etc. I thought it would be cool to walk all over the desks and just at the time I got up on my own desk, the teacher walked back in and caught me (and a few others!) They all got unsatisfactory citizenship grades on their next report cards but I didn't.
Then as a senior in high school, I drove my little red VW to school everyday. Many times that spring, my BFF and I would sneak out during 3rd period (we were not allowed off school property during school hours) and buzz up through town to the local ice cream joint and get milk shakes for lunch. Being the nerds that we were, we brazenly walked through the front doors and lobby, then past the principal's office with shakes in hand. One day, the Assistant Principal (everyone was scared to death of him!) caught us but just winked and looked the other way! I guess that's the priviledge of being a senior!

This post makes me laugh....and I just want to add a disclaimer that before reading MY response, please remember that now I'm a well-educated RN giving back to society....please excuse the fact that during my school days I tended to be a smart-alec!!

In 10th grade Accounting I got sent to the office for making a comment to the teacher. He was explaining about the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, and other papers that discussed stock markets, investments, etc. etc. I had absolutely NO interest in this; I only took Accounting to fulfill my last math credit needed. He had asked me a ? if I knew what the WSJ was and stood for, and me being "smart" said "no, and I really don't care".

In 9th grade I got to experience the ultimate in multi-grade classes-the proverbial STUDY HALL!! This was a huge gathering-I think there were 60 of us as there were 2 teachers. With my last name beginning with Z that placed me all the way in the back.....and the kid in front of me was a "burn-out" who was a troublemaker. He convinced me to join him in spitting spit-balls at the walls, windows, etc.....only I missed and shot my teacher right in the ear!! It really was an accident.....but explain THAT to the principal!!

In 10th grade the school had three lunch - A, B, and C, which were assigned according to your 4th period class. I had B lunch which split 4th period in two, meaning we went to class for 25 minutes, lunch for 30, and then back to class for 25 minutes. Our lunch began when the trady bell for A lunch rang. I had Algebra

Well, I was always really hungry by Algebra so I set the clock a head 5 minutes every day. So, every day the bell for A lunch to end rang but our teacher thought it was the tardy bell. Every day our class was the first B lunch group in the cafeteria.

I would then turn the clock back 5 mintues before the teacher returned to the room after lunch.

This worked until about the last month of school. The teacher finally discovered that someone has moved the clock ahead. She blamed the known trouble maker in our class, whose name I will never forget, but he denied it. I fessed up because I didn't want him getting in trouble for something I did.

She would not believe me! I told her I had been doing it every day, all year. She would not believe me or anyone in the class who backed up my confession. The principal was called to the room. He had me follow him to the office, where he bought me a pop and and candy bar. He thought it was the funniest thing he had ever seen - someone actually confessing to the crime but no one would believe her.

I did promise not to touch the clock again.

He promised that I could sneak food into other classes so I wouldn't feel the need to move the clock a head!

In 5th grade I got caught stealing change from the overdue fee box at the school library. I was stealing it for bus fare home, and one day there was a note saying "I know who you are..." and I was soooooooo ashamed, and I remained ashamed into my 30s until I told DH about it and he asked "why were you put in a situation where you had to steal money to get home from school??" Good question! Sheez!

All of these are hilarious!

I did a lot of stuff (nothing that serious - cutting class, harmless pranks, etc.), but either never got caught or was caught by a teacher/principal that didn't care. I always wanted to be a bad-a$$ but I lived in fear of disappointing my parents and something ending up on my "permanent record"...in my heart was a goody-goody, so I toed that line between being rebellious and being good. If I could tell a teacher was getting ready to lose it, I'd back off. I was also an honor-student athlete, and my parents knew all my teachers and my prinipal was our neighbor and my dad's golf partner - I believe those things helped to get me out of any trouble I might get into.

The only time I had to "write sentences" was in middle school - I stepped out of the lunch line to talk to my "boyfriend" at another table, and I had been doing this for weeks - the Vice-Principal had told me to stop, but I ignored him, so I had to write "I will not step out of the lunch line" 200 times.

My senior year of high school, my best friend Jake and I would leave every day to go eat lunch off-campus. We had "independent study" for our class during our lunch period, and the teacher supervising us didn't care. One day, we were in his Jeep, trying to back out of the parking space, when the principal came out. Busted. So we thought. He just stood there and motioned with his hands, "Keep coming back...back...more...okay, stop. You're good!" We drove off waving.

My mom worked in the school office when I was in grammer school. I was too scared to do anything bad. I did throw a bottle of white out at a girl who wouldn't stop asking me for it. I ended up hitting another girl in the head with it. I got away with just an apology and a "threat" of detention.

I was also one of the "goody goody" types in school. Even at the hieght of my rebellious phase in Junior high, I would get all my work and homework doe, I just wouldn't turn it in.

HOwever, when I was in the eigth grade, this boy named Chris wrote me a note in science class. I forget what he wrote but I know that somewhere in my response I used the word "s---" After class he took the note to our science teacher and I got a referral. Since I had been such a good studet and this was my first offense the AP told me tat I would only get afterschool detention for a week starting Monday. (He had seen me on Friday.) I explainedto him that my family and I were leavingthat afternoon to South Carolina for a week to attend my older brother's wedding. He said to see him when I got back to school. Well, my first day back I went up to him and let him know I was back and when and where do I report for detention. He had forgotten about my crime and punishment and was surprised that I came up to remind him. He told me I would only have 2 days of detention instead of the original 5 and that it would be 15 minutes after school instead of the usual 30.

In high school I went through a different rebellious phase my senior year and a guy friend and I had a naughty moment in class, but never got caught. The funny thing about this is that after I graduated, he and I never saw or heard from each other again until about 4 years ago. Since then we have become good friends again and occasionally go out. But when we began talking again that incident in journalism class isthe one thing that stood out the most in his memory. (Boys!)

I was always afraid that I would get caught and always stayed on the straight & narrow.

I was accused of drinking my senior year, when I arrived at the Homecoming. When I was walking in the door with my boyfriend, I tripped. He caught me & we were both giggling. The cheerleading advisors made us wait at the check in table, while one of them ran off to get the principal. He started to take us into the office, but knew right off the bat we hadn't been drinking. He let us into the dance, but it really ruined our night, especially when we saw all the people there who were bombed out of their minds.

My father called him that Monday morning and gave him an earful. Then I was called into his office, where he apologized profusely. He became my buddy that year. When the bus monitor program began & they used seniors in h.s, he gave me a job right off the bat without having to be put into the lottery. He'd give me all sorts of inside information, like when school was going to be dismissed early due to snow. And he helped me chase my sister through the building on several occasions, when she was missing.
