As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Ummm NO officer we didn\'t call...
911!
That is what my father had to explain to our local police on Friday!
My father works 3rd shift so he sleeps while my mother and I both work the morning shifts at our jobs. Well no one other then my father is home during the day. Well he was asleep and while sleeping our phones decided to start going haywire! It would ring for a split second stop and keep doing that and the line would be all static. Well some how it did something and triggered the speed dials to go through and unfortunately it chose our emergency line and dialed 911. Since no one replied to the dispatcher she sent the local police to the house.
Well my father is a very sound sleeper and you would have to knock hard enough for him to hear it over his snoring and the Air Conditioner he was running. Well they knocked for a good while he finally heard it and went downstairs.
He opened the door and the police interigated him "who are you, do you live here" and rightfully so "asked did anyone dial for 911 can we see id" he was more then willing to share that information and they searched the whole house!
Realizing that no one was in trouble or needing help they left and casually mentioned that they were just waiting to get clearance to knock the door down (our new $1900 door mind you) but he had heard them in just enough time.
It was kinda scary that the phone did that!
Now our phones are doing the same thing right now we called the phone company via cell phone but at least we are home in case anyone shows up!
Has anything like this ever happened to you?

Re: Ummm NO officer we didn\'t call...
Yikes. I think I would delete all the speed dial #'s for now. The only phone "problem" I've ever had is crossed lines - AND...it was the guys house that I was dating at the time. Bahahahaha!

Re: Ummm NO officer we didn\'t call...
No, although my brother used to work 3rd shift, and his wife 1st. He was responsible for their DD while wife worked. He'd fall asleep, and the kid would dial 911. He was awakened more than 3 times by a police man or fire fighter standing over him, shaking him. They finally made the kid stop after they were threatened with a $500 fine next time it happened.

Re: Ummm NO officer we didn\'t call...
I accidentally hit the speed dial for 911 when Joe and I first got married and I still didn't know how to use the darn phone. I forgot 911 was the 1st one and thought I was calling my mom. I hung up when I realized what happened, but it was too late, they were knocking on our door within 5 minutes. I should have stayed on and explained, but the officer said they still would have come out. I felt like an idiot. They had to search our apartment, they were nice once they realized it was an accident though. I took them off speed dial-- its not that much harder to press two more numbers than it is to just hit the one.

Re: Ummm NO officer we didn\'t call...
Our phone has been doing the same thing for about 2 months... it will give a short ring then stop... phone company has been out at least 4 times with no luck.. it seems every time it rains the phone goes haywire..
I've got a funny 911 story tho... We bought a new phone for the office/playroom.. the phone was really cool with inserts where you could put pictures of people & program their number in there.. I thought it was great with the 3 kids & they could always call someone in the family with an emergency..
Well, one day i'm making dinner & get a phone call from the WEst Mifflin police.. the lady is IRATE & tells me that prank calls have been made from my phone to their station ( this was before we had 911) I tell her no one has called, i'm making dinner, my Dh is in the living room, yada yada.. she REALLY gets mad & starts to lay in to me about the seriousness etc..I'm now getting angry myself.. I know I didn't make any calls.. she then asks the magic question "Do you have any children" I am angry at this point & say "Yes,they are 5,3 & 1 they don't use the phone" No sooner is that out of my mouth when I realize that Shelby (1YO) had a fixation with phones recently & would use her play phones & call my grandmother.. incessantly saying into the phone "Hello! Buba" I tell the officer the whole story of the picture phone, my 1yr olds new passion etc & DD must have pushed the police button instead of my grandmothers picture.. by then i'm laughing & apologizing but the officer was SUPER angry..
I got off the phone & asked Shelby to call Buba .. she went right to the new phone & wanted to dial.. Needless to say, the picture phone was unplugged & it became Shelbys toy. ( & the story IS in her journal for her to read about!)
BTW.. my Grandmother got a huge kick out of this story ( my kids were PREFECT in her eyes) & loved to tell people the story..

Re: Ummm NO officer we didn\'t call...
We had the police knock on our door late one night a few years ago for the same reason. We were all asleep. They said the phone number, and we said that it wasn't our phone number. Apparently it was the phone number for our computer line (Yes-dial-up-it was THAT long ago ). Nothing else was attached to that line and the computer was off . Isn't that strange? No wonder no one answered when they called the number back!! (I hope it's not Connecticut phones Amy )

Re: Ummm NO officer we didn\'t call...
We had a weird one a month or two ago. Police came up the driveway on a Saturday morning because of a 911 call. I was home alone. It seems that newer portable phones will call 911 if they are off the charger and lose their charge. DS had left one in his room since the day before.
