As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Curious....when do your kids find out who their assigned teacher is?
Every year, my kids have received a letter a couple weeks before school starts with a letter from their teacher and a list of items they'll need. I'm pretty sure my DS had these letters the last two years in Middle school (DD definitely did last year in Elementary). I just called to see when letters go out from the middle school this year and was told they'd get their assignments on Open House night (two days before school starts)! No letter before hand....the kids have been chomping at the bit to know where they are assigned. I am really unhappy with this turn of events. What if we were to miss the Open House (which we have some years)? We'd be stuck in a line at the front desk the first day of school and they'd miss the start of classes, that what.
So, how do you find out about teacher assignments?

Re: Curious....when do your kids find out who their assigned teacher is?
The children at our school are told who their new teachers are the week before the end on the summer term. They also get to spend half a day with their new teachers before the summer break.
It does sound rather short notice to find out 2 days before.

When the children receive their last report card of the year - the new teacher for the next year is on the back of the report card. Our school system has done it that way for a couple of years now.

Re: Curious....when do your kids find out who their assigned teacher is?
We found out this past Thursday who Macy's teacher is and on Friday the school did a "drop-in" day from 10 - 1 so the students and parents could drop by, say hello to the new teacher and drop off the school supplies. Macy and I went Friday and met her new teacher. She was not too excited before we got to school but after meeting her teacher, seeing her new classroom and seeing a few of her friends she is now looking forward to the school year. She got the teacher I really wanted her to get which, of course, was not the teacher she really wanted. From what I have heard, he is a wonderful teacher so I am hoping for another great year!

Re: Curious....when do your kids find out who their assigned teacher is?
My dd will be starting Middle School this year and I received a letter from the school last week stating that they will mail her schedule the week of Aug 21 and there is an open house on Aug 31 when you can bring their schedule and wander around to find her classes. They state the supplies list will be included in this letter. I hope some stores have some stuff left by the end of August or we won't have any supplies.

Re: Curious....when do your kids find out who their assigned teacher is?
Katie who will start Kindergarten in September will get a card in mail (hopefully soon) telling us who her teacher is so we will know which classroom to go to for Back to School day. Erin will get her high school roster soon probably in the next couple of days and will know who her teachers are. Shannon will not find out who her new teacher is until the first day of school!!!! She will have to get in her old line from last year and then they will call names and assign her to a classroom. She HATES it!!! I guess it stops irate parents from calling all summer trying to get their child switched to a different class if they don't like the teacher. We do have a school supply list so that's already done.

Re: Curious....when do your kids find out who their assigned teacher is?
Our school district is well-ranked and has a great rep (but it also makes them full of themselves and they are sometimes less than flexible with parents... )
Their reasoning for not sending the class assignments farther out than a week before school (which is a few days after Labor Day) is that parents try to jostle and finagle the assignments so much because one teacher has a better rep -- or there's a kid in that class that they don't want their child to associate with -- and the school had a nightmare trying to accomodate everyone.
While I agree with that to a degree, I wish they gave us a little more warning on the Back-to-school purchases that need to be made.

Re: Curious....when do your kids find out who their assigned teacher is?
My DDs find out the last day of school before summer vacation. That way you have all summer to get supplies, switch classes, etc.
What a pain for you to find out so late, and with just a few days to get supplies!

Re: Curious....when do your kids find out who their assigned teacher is?
At the elementary school we are at now, we find out at the end of the school year for the next year. The kids even get to go meet the teacher, and he/she usually sends home an introduction letter that includes the school supplies for the next year. Our old school used to post the class lists on the windows in the front of the school the day before open house.
The middle school sends out a packet of info about 2 weeks before open house with all the school forms (so you can fill them out BEFORE you get to open house) and a letter with your homeroom teacher's name. You have to wait until open house to find out who else is in that "pod" and who teaches what subjects and then you get the supplies list. You also don't find out about gifted teachers until open house which is like the week before school starts. Then after the first couple of days of school you find out about the connections classes (that extra fun type stuff, PE, and Health).

You must not get much turnover in your districts for this to work out!

We are expecting our Kindergarten and 3rd grade assignments this week. We start school Sept 7. I am curious about those of you who mention Open Houses - are they before school begins I guess? I have never heard of them related to school.

Re: Curious....when do your kids find out who their assigned teacher is?
I'm not very happy with my children's school district at the moment - but I won't rant, because I can go on and on and on. (BTW - I work in the same district) Our students find out about a week prior to school starting and only the room number is on the forms, not the teachers name. So you have to call the school to see which teacher is assigned to which room. And you'd think I might be able to get that information a little sooner than other parents - NOT!!

Re: Curious....when do your kids find out who their assigned teacher is?
The older 2, 1 in high school, and 1 in middle school still have not recieved there schedules. But my youngest in elementary got her teacher assignment and supply list 2 or 3 weeks ago. Ofcourse she is not happy with whom she got. My kids start school Sept. 6th.
