Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Gambling

Have you ever been to a Casino? If so did you win or lose?

I have never been to a Casino but I have been to the dog track and the horse track. I didn't win at the dog track but at Saratoga I went in the track with $15 and came out with $45 the first time and went in with $10 and came out with $25 the second time!

I have walked by a casino in Niagara Falls but never been IN one. I don't really find casinos appealing.

Yes, I've been to the casinos in Atlantic City, NJ quite a few times. Overall, I'm "ahead" by a little. I usually play blackjack.

Re: Gambling

We go every once in awhile but were not big gamblers. We usually take like $20-40 each and when we spend that were done. We have been out to Vegas three times and have barely spent any money on gambling, we usually site see.

It fun, but only for awhile. I have won several times, nothing real big though. My parents go quite often and win alot.

Re: Gambling

I really don't like the idea of gambling. That said, I have been to two casinos...one in Atlantic City where my friends FORCED me to play $1.00 in slots. Didn't win of course. The other time was at a resort in the Bahamas, where our trip package came with a $25 credit to use in the casino. I lost in all in the slot machines. Two of the friends we went with played BlackJack and won $50 and $75 respectively. Later, I fell and cut open my knee and they had to use the money to pay my emergency room bill! Re: Gambling

I have the worst "gaming" luck - I can't win for trying. My sister will sit there with the same starting cash and just keep winning and winning. Me? I blow through it in minutes and then feel like I swallowed a hot mitten. I hate losing money.

That said, I have what my family calls "parking lot luck." On Christmas Eve, I can find a spot right by the front door of a mall.

Re: Gambling

I have been to Atlantic City a few times but I really don't have enough money to run the risk of losing any of it. Plus people walk way too slow in casinos for me and it drives me nuts.

Re: Gambling

I have been to Reno, Las Vegas and Atlantic City. I like Las Vegas the best because there is a lot do there besides gambling. We have gone to some really good shows and done some great shopping in Las Vegas.

I'm not a big gambler, but I like playing Keno. And no, I have not been very lucky so far. That's probably why I don't do it very often.

Re: Gambling

I've been to the casinos here in Winnipeg. It's very much out of our way to go there, so we've only gone a couple times. I only play the nickel and quarter slots, but basically, I'm just feeding money into "their" piggybank, because I usually lose it all in a matter of a few minutes. One time we took my Dad and he played the dollar slots. He put in $2 and got nothing, then the next pull he only had $1. After plugging a grand total of $3 in the machine, it paid off nearly $500! Even though he had just started, we convinced him that it was time to leave and then he treated us to lunch!

I used to play BlackJack in a little (slightly, er, illegal ) weekly game at the Lions Club in the small town I lived in for one year. I would take $20 and some nights I came out a few bucks ahead, other nights the Lions made $20 off me. But, at the beginning of December that year I won $30 which was enough to buy a really nice Christmas tree -- which I bought from the Lions Christmas tree lot! I've visited the MGM Grande in Detroit a couple of times, whilst staying with our friends. Just played the slot machines & came out on top.

Re: Gambling

I grew up in the middle of horse country right here in Kentucky so I have been to the horse track plenty of times. My dad loved it so I "learned" it from him and normally do pretty good.

I have also found a love for the poker table so we go to the boats around here when we can. I would say I am probably even at best playing poker. I've won big some and lost big some others. However, I have been playing roulette some and done pretty well on it. It seems like you can get on a roll playing that.

Now my wife on the other hand always just played the slots. Never won anything big. But the last time we were at the boat she sat down and played poker one night for a bit and kind of learned the game. The next night she came back she cleaned house. So much so, she knocked me out of the game. That was first time playing and so far has been her last. But she did well for herself.
