Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Pixies needed, big time (LONG) Another update
Well, my summer has been very stressful, to say the least. My father was in the hospital (he's 90) for several weeks prior to Memorial Day. He is what is called a brittle diabetic. That is, they have never been able to regulate his blood sugar and it ranges from nearly 600 to 40, and this could be all in the course of one day! Normal is about 100 - 120. He spent a great deal of time in the hospital and the doctor wanted him to go to a nursing facility because he could no longer keep him in the hospital. My father refused and the doctor suggested hospice care at home, with the understanding that he may pass away within days. My brothers, their families, my kids and their kids all came to see him as we felt he had very little time left. That said, please note that he is still with us. He left the hospital the day after Memorial Day and went home. That is a blessing. However, because he refused the nursing home or other assisted care, my brothers and I have been his caregivers. We have managed to get, just last week, a woman who will be there 9-5 M-F. But we can not find good 24/7 care.
Okay, next issue. My DS-in-law was diagosed with an acoustic neuroma earlier this spring. This is a benign tumor of the middle/inner ear. He has had significant hearing loss and some facial nerve damage. His surgery was last Tuesday and I am happy to report that he is doing well and should be home today or tomorrow. DH and I have been caring for our youngest DGrndsn so our DD could stay with her husband.
Issue #3, that same DGrndsn will have to have his tonsils out next month. He's got chronic strep and most likely is a carrier because he harbors the virus in his HUGE tonsils.
Last, but most important, issue #4. The reason for the request for pixies. My mother, age 87 as of 7/4, is in fair health, but frail. She had a fall at Christmas last year but no breaks. She is being treated for a liver problem and the meds she takes for them make her dizzy, or as she calls it "Loopy". She fell off the front porch yesterday. Not sure what she was doing, most likely getting the mail. The caregiver was there but not my brother. She was unable to get back in the house and they called the rescue squad to come. They transported her to the local hospital and she has indeed broken her hip. She will have that replaced today or tomorrow. They want to make sure she is healthy enough for the surgery.
I imagine she will be in the hospital awhile and then to rehab. Not sure when she'll get home, if ever. My father, who of course has been getting stronger since he returned home, is very concerned and it will effect his health also. I see very few options for their long term care.
So, please, send healing pixies for mom and insight pixies for my brothers and I to find a solution to their care.

Mom had surgery today. They had to replace the hip ball but not the socket. She said she did not remember anything and is currently in no pain. My brother is at the hospital with her and I am with my dad at their home.
DH went back to DD house to help with the various errands she needed done since she and DSinlaw came home yesterday. I am AMAZED. Brain surgery on Tuesday, home on Friday! He is able to get around with some assistance and his first solid food was a chocolate chip cookie last night. He had cereal this morning and will take things one step at a time, literally.
Well, I need to get back to Dad. Their neighbors very graceously allow me to tap into their wireless connection but in order to do that I must go into another room. Dad is watching the Chi White Sox get beat by NY right now!!

<font color="blue"> </font> Mom is still in the hospital. Her blood count is low and they have administered 6 units of blood. They suspect some type of bleeding but are unable to find the cause. They will run some more tests. I'm concerned because she also has some type of infection and her leg is swollen. They are giving her antibiotics for the infection. I feel very helpless being this far away and having no input on her care. DH and I return to care for my dad this week as my brothers have responsibilities out of state. I'll only be able to see her during the time Dad's caregiver is there Thurs and Fri and none on the week-end as there is no caregiver. I'll talk to her on the phone and perhaps send DH to see her.
Keep the pixies coming, they are still needed. Thanks ! <font color="blue"> </font>
