Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

UPH question
I have a question about the UPH. I know it is good for admission to every park, water park, PI and DQ.
My question is, if you are park hopping, or planning on returning to the same park later in the day, do you need to get a hand stamp before leaving?
Or do you just show your card and come and go as you please?

Re: UPH question
With both a regular PHP and my AP, i never stamped my hand...just showed the card again.
Hand stamping is probably still around for people who purchase 1 day admission.
Have fun on your trip!

It's interesting you say that Jennifer. We told a couple of CM's we didn't need hand stamps, as we had AP's, but they told us we should get it done, in case the computers go down. But isn't it clear that you've got an AP and it lists the date it expires too... that really did throw me, as to why you still need the hand stamp.
Having said that, no-one once checked for a hand stamp on us and I didn't see them doing it for anyone else either while we were there.

Re: UPH question
An interesting question actually! Found this info on AllEarsNet (rather long, but very informative!):
------------------------------------------------------
A good friend of AllEarsNet™ just happens to work as a theme park greeter and she has pulled together a group of tips about Entering and Exiting the Parks!
Handstamps -- I would like to clear up the misconception about the handstamps. The handstamps are a back-up method that Disney uses for its guests. The handstamp is only ever used in a few situations. One, if you leave the park and then come right back in, we expect you to have a handstamp, as your ticket will show that it has been recently used. Two, if the ticketing system goes down, and guess what, it's computer based, so it CAN and WILL go down sometime. The handstamp is the only way that we will know you have been in park that day, so that is how we will know to let you back in. Three, if you are escorted in by a Disney cast member, you will get a different stamp, on your arm, you will need that stamp if you go to another park.
When you leave to go to another park, get a handstamp, if you plan on going anywhere else, or returning to that park. It is a harmless thing, that might just save you if there is a problem. You will still use your ticket to get back into any park. Sliding your ticket again will not take another day off of your ticket, the computer is centralized and knows that you have already been in park. If you ask a Park Greeter when you come in, he or she can let you know if that is your first use of the day or if it shows you have already been in that day. Also, going to Guest Relations can answer any questions. They can scan your ticket, and let you know where and when you have been and verify that you were not charged twice for the same day.
The only people that do NOT need a handstamp are annual passholders, seasonal passholders, and cast members. All others need a handstamp if they are planning on re-entering. Chances are, you won't be asked for a handstamp, but it is better to be safe than sorry. If you have a park hopper pass, YOU are the one that this policy is in place to protect, so that you can get in or out. Most people think if they have park hoppers, they are immune from having to get the stamps.
These stamps are waterproof. You may shower, swim, bath, wash your hands, or anything else that might get your hands wet, without removing the stamp. About the only thing that will remove the stamps are alcohol based lotions, such as hand sanitizer, and even that needs to be used in HEAVY quantity to take off the stamp.
A tip for entering or exiting the park: look down at about mid leg level, you will see a square box that either has a red "X" or a green "arrow" sign. This is how you will know if you can enter, or exit through that turnstile. If there is anything other than a green arrow, don't try to enter there - you will hurt yourself. This goes for either side. Also, if you look to either side of you (to the right or left) chances are the further down you go, the faster you will get into the park, as the lines
are shorter.
To make entering the park faster for you, your party, and everyone behind you, it is helpful if you have your tickets out and ready, and that each person in your party has their own ticket. If there is a stroller with an older child in it, give the person pushing the stroller the two tickets, and the Cast Member will usually come right over to you, to help get the tickets inserted correctly, and to help the stroller person get in quickly. Pay attention to the sign on the machine. It will show you where to put your ticket at. The tickets can be read any of 4 different ways, so place them in however you are holding them (well, other then sideways..lol). Also, pay attention to the LCD display located on machine. It will tell you what you need to know or do. Wait for the green arrow to pop up, before you try to enter, or you will hurt yourself trying to push through.
If you bring a child over the age of 3, they will need their own ticket. If they are under the age of 3, let the Park Greeter know when you come up that they are UNDER the age of 3. If they are 3 and you say they are 3, they need to have a ticket to enter.
The biometrics readings are only done for annual, seasonal, cast member, or 10-day World Hoppers, so that we can match you with your ticket. If your ticket and biometrics readings are not matching up, be prepared to show some ID so that they may be reset. This is to stop the illegal selling of unused tickets. This also helps you if your tickets are stolen. (For more info on this, see our page on Fingerscans.)
It is suggested that you not store your tickets near or with your credit cards, or near your cell phone, as both have been known to demagnetize the strips on the back of the tickets. If this happens, the Cast Member will try a few things. If there still continues to be a problem, they will either send you to Guest Relations, or take your ticket to get a new one made. Doing this does not change the amount of days you have on a ticket or anything else. All this is doing is reprinting you another ticket.
Avoid getting your tickets wet, as this will also cause problems with the machine's ability to read the ticket. If it does get wet, take it to Guest Services outside any of the parks, and have them reissue the ticket for you.
Keep your receipt from when you bought the tickets, as this will quickly speed up your ability to get tickets reissued if you lose them or they are stolen.
-----------------------------------------
See, you learn a little something new every day!

That's what we thought - even if the CM's told us otherwise. Glad to know we were right - we were beginning to question ourselves!

Re: UPH question
Great, no more handstamps (not that that is a huge deal but one less impediment) for me!

Re: UPH question
You know, I usually have them stamp my hand when we leave during the day, just to be safe than sorry. Im sure though that the stuff comes off by the time we are done swimming in the pool and taking a shower. I think that there have been a few times where I didnt get my hand stamped and just passed the ticket through the gate and was on our way. Very interesting to see that they are waterproof! I guess I learned something today! At least they are smart and use it with clear ink and not that nasty blue ink that you get nailed with at parks and fairs. yuck. It takes days to wash that stuff off!

Re: UPH question
On our trip, we got our handstamps even if we THOUGHT we might either go back into the same park or another park, however all we had to do was put our pass through the slot. It totally upset my 6 yr old son that he didn't get to put his hand under the light, but he quickly forgot about it once we were inside the park.
