As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I read in one of the many disney books out there, that evening EMH are really not worth it because of crowd levels. I wanted to ask those who have taken advantage of this, is it worth it? My hubby and I will be at Disney the week after Thanksgiving. Thanks!!

From what I've read, the parks are crowded on EMH days, but the EMH times are not as crowded - does that make sense? To really take advantage of it, you'll need a park hopper - otherwise it might be the "regular" hours that you wouldn't be able to put up with. I've seen it recommended to do a different park during park hours and then hop to the EMH park once it closes to others. I've also read that the later it gets, the less people.
If by "after Thanksgiving" you mean after the Thanksgiving crowds are gone i.e. week after Thanksgiving; DEFINITELY utilize EMH!!! We had Mardi Gras cross with Pres Day (a historically crowded week) this year, & our evening EMH's were awesome! I disregard those who say avoid EMH's unless you're there like 4th of July, NY eve, or the like. Normal times of the year, they are fabulous!

We went to the Magic Kingdoms EMH last week and it was from 10pm to 3am!!!! We walked onto every ride!!! It was GREAT!!! (or it might have been 11pm to 3am, I can't remember!!)
I love EMH. We usually do evenings since they are longer and avoid parks with am EMH's. The crowds aren't too bad and the later it gets the crowds thin.
Sometimes with the children we do am EMH and usually leave early if we have done all we want to do.
We always go to the evening EMHs. The crowds are much thinner! All those poor unfortunate souls who are not lucky enough to be staying onsite are gone and lots of the families with small children also just can't make the long hours. This is especially true on nights when MK has EMHs that go until 2 am. Spending more time in the evening also helps to manage the humid Florida heat. I love the evening EMHs! I park visits and ADRs around the evening EMH schedules.

We've found evening EMHs crowded at all 3 parks except AK. That said, the crowds do thin out as the night goes on, but with 2 little ones, we usually don't make it until the end. We usually just walk around and take in the sights, riding a few things.
The crowds really thin out towards the ebod of the night. We walked onto to Splah Mountain and BTMRR last trip. It was almost like having Frontierland to ourselves
We always do evening EMH. Like others have said we visit a different park earlier in the day and then Hop to whatever park has EMH. It is cooler at night and although crowded at first, it does thin out. It is such a treat for my kids (5&7) to be up so late past their bedtimes that they love it and don't complain about the lines at that time of day. My son did fall asleep once on It's a Small World around midnight and both usually sleep on the bus ride back to the hotel. By morning they're rested and ready to hit the ground running again. If they get tired in the afternoon we take a break and then hop to the next evening EMH park.
Like everyone else I always take advantage of the EMH in the evening. Especially when we are going in August! We like to go back to the hotel and recharge for a few hours and then head back to the park with EMH (I also try to make ADR's for restaurants in or near that park). We couldn't hang all the way until 3 am last July in MK but I think we were there until 2 and we were able to hit all of the rides that the dreaded Brazilian tour groups kept us from. Another good hint, if you aren't big on parades or you have seen wishes and illuminations a hundred times and don't want to see them again, take advantage of that time to hit the popular rides. Plus, it's awesome to see the fireworks from Big Thunder or Splash Mountain. We have done both (inadvertantly) and it was amazing. You pop out of a hole and the sky is filled with light and then you pop out again or fly down a hill and the whole time the sky is all different colors. SOOOO Coool!

I'm with everyone else: capitalize on EMH evenings... Generally we've found the mornings to be crowded.
There is one exception we've run into on EMH evening and that's DHS since Toy Story opened... have noticed that crowds still pretty high during the evenings primarily (it seems) because everyone else is hoping crowds are smaller as they couldn't get on Toy Story earlier/fast passes ran out
I'm one that skips them. Usually because we like to wake up early to beat you folks that are sleeping in. My son is 4 so we get out of the parks and in bed at 9:30-10:00 right after the fireworks.
IMHO, evening EMH's are not worth it for our family. We really did not enjoy the evening EMH's, as the crowds were huge. Wait times for rides were longer than they were before the EMH and there were no FP's available. For example, we tried the evening EMH at EPCOT. The wait time for TT was 20min at 6:30 PM, at 10:15 PM it was 45min. I have heard if you can wait it out the ending hour of evening EMH is much less crowded with little to no lines. Our family loves to get up early for touring, take a break and then head back early evening. Staying up till 1AM does not work for us. We really enjoyed the morning EMH and got a lot of rides done in an hour. MK was awesome in the AM!
