Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

+dinning question

This is my first post and I hope this works. I have seen the following on AllEarNet describing what the dinning plan allows for each day of you pass
--One table-service meal (including appetizer, entree, dessert, non-alcoholic beverage, and gratuity/service charge)
--One counter service meal (including entree/combo meal, dessert, and non-alcoholic beverage)
--One snack, such as snack-cart ice cream, popcorn, or a non-alcoholic beverage
(Note that children age 3-9 must choose from a children's menu, if one is available.

My questions are
If a desert is not ordered at a counter service location with you meal, can you get it later as a snack?
At a table service meal, do my boys (age 5,5,& 9) get to order an appetizer and dessert?  They won’t really need a appetizer, but would like their own dessert. Our choice of appetizer and dessert will depend of whether we will need to share with the boys.
How are the meals coded in on our account, as whole meals or by each part of the meal ex..appetizer, meal, dessert, snack...

We are not going on our trip for many months (Nov.), but I have been looking at menus to find restaurants that offer more than chicken nuggets, hot dogs and peanut butter for the boys.
Thanks,
Janell

Re: +dinning question

We have not done the MYW meal option but we did the old meal plan. If you did not order something at your sit down meal, you lost it. Like if you didn't get a dessert - you couldn't have ot later UNLESS you got it in a to go box at the end of your meal. As far as kids went, as far as kids went I don't know b/c DS was under 3 so we got no meal plan for him.

Re: +dinning question

I'm with Crystal....we did it when was the gold plan and if you didn't order something it was just gone... So we ordered anyway, even if we were stuffed It was worth a taste. And as far as encoding your meal...We were told to place our room key with the bill and they pulled your wishes from that. Each time you ate it was one wish a piece (unless you were somewhere they charged 2 wishes per person).. they would take it away from your account and your receipt would show how many you had left. with your questions and trip planning!!

Re: +dinning question

I asked these questions this morning to a CM at WDTC. Whatever options you don't use, you lose. But you don't have to use them every day or each day - just by the time you check out.

Try and get a dessert at a counter-service location that you could take with you for a snack later - lots of places offer cookies.

As far as the kid's meals, my understanding from the CM was that kids are limited to what is offered on the kid's menu. All include dessert and some offer 'starters'. It would depend on the restaurant's kids menu.

Everytime you use your card for a meal or snack, it will be deducted from your account as the complete option (counter, table service or snack) and your receipt should show what options you have left.

Hope that helps! And welcome to the boards!

Re: +dinning question

I am doing the MYW Package also. I have three adults and one child. My DS who is 11 is considered an adult when it comes to WDW. My DD will be 6 when we go. I asked my TA about the meals and how they work as for as appetizers and desserts. She said everyone gets an appetizer and dessert, even the kids. If there is no appetizer on the childs menu then they can order off the adult menu. I am thinking we are not going to be going hungery. Thank goodness there are refigerators in the rooms now. We are going in Dec. Have lots of fun planning. Also look at allearsnet.com, she has lots of good info on the resturants and the menus at each one. I printed up a list of all the resturants available on the MYW plan. Have Fun.

Re: +dinning question

It will be great if the boys each can get an appetizer and a dessert. They have grown up tastes, so I know we will be sharing with them. I know the boys will be fine with a kid dessert, but they love appetizers. I hope our sit down meals fill them up enough, that one counter meal and a snack will be fine. We will probable just order a counter service dessert that we can take with us - cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats. I love the menus on AllEars they really help with the budget.
Thanks for welcoming me and answering my questions

Re: +dinning question

The sit down should be enough... My DH and I both were over stuffed from our sit down meals... And that says ALOT!

Re: +dinning question

Lynn is right.

Your dining will be considered as a complete option, whether or not you partake of a dessert or an appetiser. The system will not keep track of each item you order (appetiser, drink, entree, dessert, etc) and pick up what wasn't used then and add it on to something down the road. It only records whether or not you used a "snack", or a "sit-down table service" or a "counter service" as a complete entity.
