As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I'm planning a trip to Vegas the first week of December and got what I think is a good rate (just over $550) from expedia.
Any suggestions on a stuff for a solo guy to do while there(besides the usual casinos and such)? I wasn't planning on renting a car, but might if the event/attraction sounds worth it -- otherwise was planning on relying on the monorail/taxis.
This will be my first time, but it's not booked yet, wanted to get some suggestions and such first.

My mom and I went to Vegas this past May, the things I could have done solo without a problem was:
Titanic exhibit - it is amazing and I could have wandered around alone looking for hours.
Body exhibit - same as above....it was so interesting
Any of the shows go to Vegas.com and check out the shows that are going on while you are there. We caught a couple comedy shows, a dinner theatre and Rita Rudner. Have a blast!! I love Vegas!!
One of our favourite things to do is just wander round the various resorts - the theming in them is amazing. Our favourites include New York, New York, Caesar's Palace, the Bellagio, Venetian and Mandalay Bay.
You really should take in a show or two while you're there - our favourite is O by Cirque du Soleil, although all the Cirque shows we've seen there have been amazing. Love and Mystere were others we enjoyed.
I know you're not renting a car, but there are tours out to the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon, all of which are well worth seeing.

There are tons of shows and such on the strip that are easy to get to but some are very pricey. If you like the outdoors, red rock, mt charleston, zion, and grand canyon are great and the weather will still be nice enough to tour. There are tons of things to do all over the city it just depends what you are interested in. I was raised there and know alot about things to do so if you have any questions feel free to PM me.
We love to rent a car and go to either Red Rock Canyon, which has a beautiful 13 mile scenic drive, plus you can get out of your car and hike a bit. Also, if you have never been to the Hoover Dam tour, go. It's incredible how they built something that big so many years ago. YOu can usually get a car for around $70 for the weekend. Look for specials/coupons on the car rental websites.
Also, someone gave me a good site for room only promo codes for all the hotels called www.lasventions.com. Got an excellent rate for the weekend.
There is a 1/2 price ticket place on the strip that has discounted show tickets. You might want to check there.

Why don't you ride on the world highest roller coaster??? That is if your braver then I am!!!!
The roller coaster itself (The High Roller) is no longer on top of the Stratosphere. The Big Shot is, which is like Maliboomer (for those familiar with California Adventure) only a LOT higher to start with. And there are 2 others: Ex-Scream and Insanity. Ex-Scream is a "teeter totter" that pushes you over the edge of the building (yes, you pitch over the edge of 90+ stories). And Insanity is like a carousel of sorts, with 4 chairs facing inward - you move out over the street and then spin.
Let me know what sorts of things interest you and I can steer you toward certain things (like, are you outdoorsy or a sight-seer, or do you like thrills or shows?)
I like going to shows, and I found that Bill Engvall is going to be there doing a show, so I'm going to pick up tickets for that, and the Hoover Dam was another sight that I hadn't thought of (thanks minemoz1!).
I like the shows and some sightseeing, was going to do a little gambling too, but that's not my main draw for going.

My suggestion is, being you prefer not to rent a car, that you consider which attractions, shows and places of interest that readers have recommended and book your reservations in that area. Then during the day you can walk the streets, see the different casinos, hotels., shops, etc., see what they have to offer in their phamplets to confirm what you believe you want to do and see..
Each business will have phamplets showing what they have to offer. And along the way don't forget to check each place for their fun books which contain offers, discount tickets to shows, other discounts and in some cases free items, a free spin chance for winning larger prizes. You might have to drive home. LOL.
With a week in Las Vegas you can take in the town. Don't forget downtown Las Vegas with all its lights.
In case you need it there is taxi and bus service. Maybe even see Las Vegas from a bus.
As for the best hotel rates it depends upon what your requirement are. Rates are cheaper and rates are more expensive. Chect out the internet by hotels and casinos. Often they have an 800 phone number or an email address.
The enclosed links give you a map of the strip and downtown. Alter you pick the section you wish to see, showing the hotels and casinos, without clicking on the map, rest the mouse over them and their names will appear. This is on the first link.
I would think twice about trying to walk down the Boulevard. Not that its especially dangerous, but everything is further away than it looks!!! If its just a cross the street you are probably ok, but if its a few buidlings down the way the distance can be decieving. I cab it in Vegas most if the time. If you are on a monorail resort use it!!! LV Hilton is on it. It doesn't go all the way down the strip, but it does go to a lot of places. You can't really walk anywhere from the Hilton so this is useful!
