Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Friday November 4th - Part Two

Reminder:

We enjoyed almost everything we did; we had no problems spending the four figures for this vacation; we got such a thrill seeing the priceless send of wonderment, joy and overload on our daughter’s face. Please note that ANY negatives you may read are just our honest impressions of our trip.

Friday November 4th

It is 5:30 in the morning and I can barely hear the alarm going off. The big day was here. We set our alarm for this early because we wanted to grab a breakfast at IHOP (big mistake go to Mimi’s Café instead) and get to the gates by 7:30 for their 8AM opening. I had purchased Ridemax before we left and planned our days accordingly. Since I had not mentioned it, we were traveling with a two and half year old daughter and knew going in there was no way we would ride every ride, see every show, spend every open hour at DL.

It was however a thrill to be at the gates at opening and watch the two families they had picked to open the park. The countdown just made me more excited. We were finally in and were walking through the tunnel. We walked down main street and were at the ropes waiting for the drop at 9AM. At the drop, it was off to FL for my wife while I headed to BLABB to pick up our first FastPasses for the day. When I caught up, I cut in line at Peter Pan to meet up with my wife and daughter. From there it was on to Dumbo, Pinochio, Alice, the teacups and Matterhorn.

We knew from experience at WDW years ago, if you want to be able to get a pic with THE Mickey Mouse, the one with his red shorts, jacket, tie, you needed to go to his house in Toontown. Yes there are other Mickey’s in various costumes around the park, but to me there is something about THE Mickey. So we lined up at Toontown a few minutes before 10AM and made our way right to his house when it opened. Other people headed off to rides, so we ended up being the first to go through his house and into the photography room where it was time for pictures. We took a few and they took a few and even used my camera to get a pic of us all.

From there it was on to Minnie’s where she was outside and my daughter just came up and gave her the biggest and longest hug. The line was not long for Roger Rabbit, so we rode that and the Gadget Coaster. From then we left to head to Tomorrowland. I grabbed Space Mountain passes and we rode BLAB and Autopia. We sat for Honey I Shrunk but DD refused to wear the glasses so missed most of the show.

We saw Buzz was hanging out at Club Buzz so we waited patiently for a picture while lots of kids pushed passed us for autographs. Buzz was very patient with each kid and got my daughter in for a few pictures after telling everyone to wait. We noticed it was getting close to time for a Woody and Jesse appearance so we headed over to Frontierland. We got those pictures and headed over to POTC while I grabbed Haunted Mansion FP’s. POTC broke down just as we got off so we were glad we got that one in.

We decided to stay in the park and eat there and had a horrible chili dog on main street. I so wished we had eaten elsewhere or even headed out of the park. After our meal, it was off to claim a spot for the parade. We found our spot and waited for the parade to begin. It was great and let me tell you I literally got chills hearing Walt’s voice saying “To all who come to this happy place……….Welcome”. (Forgive if I got it wrong) It was then that the experience literally went downhill. As the parade broke down right in front of us and we literally listened to strains from Beauty and the Beast “Be our Guest…” for 30 minutes straight!!! We asked CM’s what had happened and apparently the Ariel float had broken down. When one breaks down, they all stop but the music continues and continues and continues. To their credit, the face and costumed characters never broke character.

Finally the parade moved on and we saw Ariel’s float being towed by a tractor. After this, Ms. Flagger took our daughter back to the room to rest and I went and road Space Mountain, Star Tours and Indy (which I got FP for earlier). I then went and showered, relaxed in the hot tub and made plans to head back for our night sojourn. On our return, my daughter and I drove the cars at Autopia while Ms. Flagger used the other FP to ride Space Mountain. We then made our way to claim our place right in front of the hub, up near the Walt and Mickey statue facing the castle.

I will follow in my epilogue notes, but I will just say here that one of my camera tripod legs failed to lock and my battery ran out of juice. However the fireworks were spectacular and we even managed a few shots that came out.

It was back to our hotel afterwards but we stopped at Tony Roma’s where I grabbed a bite to eat to go for us to eat in our room.

Re: Friday November 4th - Part Two

Wow - sounds like you got quite a bit done, even with the parade breakdown! I bet that making time for photos and character meets is what you'll really remember.

I'm sure that that extra $60 fo the jacuzzi was well-spent, too!
