Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

We\'re all booked at the WL!

I've finally made my decision and we're staying at the WL. I believe we will have a Woods View. How are these and what do you look out on? I'm assuming these have balconies.

I think it's great that you're going to the WL!!! I've not stayed there, but I assume that a woods view would be of the woods??

Re: We\'re all booked at the WL!

You will LOVE the WL!! We had a woods view our first night (then changed to courtyard ) and it faced some trees and overlooked an otter pond.

At night you could see the lights of the Contemporary twinkling thru the trees and even better, we saw some of the fireworks of Wishes!

Ground floor rooms have patios, upper floors have balconies. Have a wonderful time!

Re: We\'re all booked at the WL!

You will be in my favorite spot! Try to get a room on the north side; you will be overlooking the otter pond and should be able to see some of the MK fireworks(we had our best view from the first floor)

Re: We\'re all booked at the WL!

Congratulations! We are narrowing our choices down for our trip in November. So far its between WL & POR. Price difference isn't that much and if I can get the AP rate... even better. It will be wife and I and our two boys (ages 8 & 5 when we go) and the thought of being able to hop on a boat and go to MK sounds fantastic. Especially since we are driving down from NY! Since it's the boys first trip, we thought we would try to make it even more magical for them. POR looks great, pool slides, fishing hole, boat to DD but I'm not sure the setting is what we are after. I don't know if the boys would enjoy that theme as much. WL looks amazing, dining choices seem more like what we are after, rooms are slightly bigger, boat to MK...

Can anyone help with the following...

How is the pool at WL? Is there a slide? Looks like there is one on the video.

Dining? How is the food? Good choice for kids? Character dining? (I think most Deluxes have this)

Other kid activities? Any fishing?

Does the boat to/from MK run on a certain schedule? I researched and found its approx 8-10 minute ride, is a 10-15 minute wait a reasonable guess going? Maybe slightly longer at park closing for return?

Would this be a good choice for 2 active, on the go boys???

Questions, questions, questions... doing my best to find out as much as I possibly can!

Thanks Everyone!

Re: We\'re all booked at the WL!

Deena,

I am happy for you guys. I think you will find this resort has all the relaxation you are looking for. The boat to the MK is awesome. The woods views are so relaxing. I agree with Stonewall, try to get a north woods view. This side faces the Magic Kingdom and although there are quite a few trees, you can see the tops of the Wishes fireworks. This resort can not be beat!

Re: We\'re all booked at the WL!

How is the pool at WL? Is there a slide? Looks like there is one on the video. The pool is beautiful. It looks like it is carved out of rocks. The slide is fun and you have to slide right through a rock formation to come out the other side. The pool slide closes at 10p.m.

Dining? How is the food? Good choice for kids? Character dining? (I think most Deluxes have this) There is no technical character meal here but Whispering Canyon is awesome for kids. It is a loud, group participation type meal where the servers are boisterious and love to embarass the patrons(in the most fun way). Artist Point is a northwest influenced restaurant that is of extremely high caliber. The meals and service are legendary. The Roaring Forks is more of an upscale food court with many delicious choices.

Does the boat to/from MK run on a certain schedule? I researched and found its approx 8-10 minute ride, is a 10-15 minute wait a reasonable guess going? Maybe slightly longer at park closing for return? I am not sure of the exact schedule but I can ever remember waiting longer than 5 minutes for a but to the MK. The dock is an extremely enjoyable place to wait as well.

Would this be a good choice for 2 active, on the go boys??? YES!!! With the wild west type theme here this place seems perfect for boys. I hope you decide on this place as you will love it. Please feel free to PM me if there is anything else you'd like to know about this place.

You could also go to the web site listed below and find out all the information you need for WL.

http://www.allearsnet.com

Click on Accomadations and venture over to the Wilderness Lodge listings - fact sheet, photos, etc.

Re: We\'re all booked at the WL!

Teddysmom, Thank you VERY much! I'm sure we could stay anyplace in WDW and our sons would love it, but the bigger the smiles on their faces the bigger the smile on mine!

So far WL is the resort we are leaning towards. My wife and I have been to WDW before but only stayed offsite. With so much to do in all the parks, the only time we ever ventured to one of the resorts, the CR, was to eat!

I'll be sure to PM you if I have any other questions! Nice pic on your signature!

Opinions on rooms anyone?!?! We'll be going in the value season... should we put in a res for standard view and take a shot at a free upgrade when we get there??? Seems like alot of posters have been able to do this and I would love to save some cash for spending!

If anyone else can add to this... please feel free!

Re: We\'re all booked at the WL!

Congrats on booking WL Deena! We had a woods view on our honeymoon in 98 and loved it! Very quiet and relaxing. We were on the ground floor and had a little balcony. You will LOVE IT!

Re: We\'re all booked at the WL!

Thanks everyone! I can't wait!! My DH doesn't know where we're staying. Since it was a bit more to stay at WL he told me he didn't want to make that decision and left it up to me and said to surprise him when we got there. Well, I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep it a secret until then, though I would love to.

I want to keep it a secret until I pay off the extra amount. We're using a travel credit and are doing this through a TA and a package. Our choice was either POR or WL, on both packages we would have to pay over and above the travel credit, the WL obviously being a bit more than POR. I know that WL was DH's first choice but when he heard how much extra it was he was leaning towards POR. I bit the bullet and decided on WL and I'm just beside myself with excitement! Just a bit of belt tightening and we're all set.

Thanks for the advice on the Woods view. With the package we were not able to choose the Standard Room only Woods or Water view.

Thanks again everyone!

I don't know how you are going to be able to keep it from him. I am having a hard time not telling my husband and it has only been three days. However, the excitment on his face when we pull up to the WL instead of PC is enough to get me through it. Good Luck.

I am comparing the two resort options you mentioned. A great site with tons of pictures is allearsnet.com Paired with the passporter you will have all the information you need. We are leaning towards WL. Good Luck.
