Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I said I needed a break but....this is not what I meant

Who:
Me – Minnie Jen – 38 and the planner of the family
My Husband - 40 and in charge of all silliness
Our sons – just turned 2 (Ethan) and 4 (Ty) – their 4th trip to the “land”

When:
May 10th to the 14th (Monday to Thursday)

Where:
We have a vacation condo just north of San Diego and go a few times a year. We were spending two weeks there this time with the visit to DLR landing early in our trip. We purchased annual passes this year and found a great deals on the property hotels. We considered staying at the Grand California again (twice before) but ended up deciding to try the Disneyland hotel. We were very excited about this. My hubby had stayed once about 25 years ago and we knew many many things had changed and were very excited to see what. I had seen the lobby briefly when I did the 1/2 marathon last year for the document pick up etc and liked what little I saw.

Dining:
We made PS to have dinner at Goofy's Kitchen for the boys "birthday" on monday night, early. We did a breakfast there once before but never dinner and I was hoping the food would be good. We love food and it is always nice when we can be surprised by quality when we are going to a character dining experience for reasons outside of food expectations. We also decided to gamble and make early dinner PS for Steakhouse 55 with the boys. The boys are well behaved in most restaurant situations but they are young and have their bad days for sure. We figured if they were not doing well we would just cancel. Both restaurants were in our hotel just by chance but a nice bonus.

Plans:
The boys had their birthdays just 3 or 1 week (depending which one you ask about) before our trip and were looking forward to much celebrating and spending of birthday money. I had our lists of new rides to try as our oldest gets older and taller and braver. Also lists of old favs to be sure we don't miss anything. I had a list of things I wanted to buy from seeing things online, on the boards. Also lists of the places we want to try for food that we never have and all the yummy treats/snacks we do/buy every time. Yes I love my lists. I have a small notebook that is always in my purse regardless of being at Disney or the grocery store. It is not a happy MinnieJen if I do not have it with me.

Up next: The big break.....

The big break

We arrived at our condo on Friday and took the weekend to get settled, unpack and set up house and planned to pack small bags on Sunday night and leave first thing on Monday morning for DLR. I got a bit behind on the laundry and because of that I was forced to leave some of the packing for Monday morning. I got all of our snack bags and the thank you bags I made for stellar CMs done but some some of the clothes I wanted for the boys were still in the washer when I went to sleep on Sunday. This did not please me but little that I could do.

The next morning I was rushing around and getting things done. I wanted to leave as soon as we could. I went over my lists a few times and repacked the purse/bag I wanted to carry in the parks and grabbed our pin lanyards. I checked the boards quickly and closed my laptop and set it on the bed to go in my computer bag. I am not sure how but it slid off the bed and landed on it's side, right onto the top of my foot.

Now I do not curse, and I had a hard time keeping my mommy PG rating at this moment. I did yell VERY loud and curled up on the floor. My hubby and older son came running. Bless my son's heart he was asking over and over if I was alright. I told my husband I thought I broke my foot. It hurt so much and I just kept wanting for the initial pain to pass and get a good idea how bad it really was but the pain was going nowhere. I could move my toes but not without pain. I tried to walk but it was a sad limp. I kept thinking it would start to get better so I told my hubby to pack the car and put the boys in. I put my offending Mac in my bag and limped to the car.

It was 9:30 and I was happy we got out that early. We are about an hour and a bit away from DLR so we could drop the car and our luggage and hit the parks for plenty of time before our 5pm dinner plans. Except....

....my foot was throbbing worse and worse the more we drove. It was getting very bad and my sweet hubby said this was silly and pulled off the freeway to an ER. We agreed he would leave me and take the boys somewhere to play since I knew I would be there for at least a couple hours with xrays and exam and all. I grabbed something to read and some water and limped into the ER.

Three hours later I limped out with a walking boot, a diagnosis of a hairline fracture and script for pain pills.

Up next: a whole new plan!

I'm another one who has lists, sometimes I have lists OF my lists .

I'm sorry about your foot though. I remember reading about it in another thread but luckily you got a walking boot. It may not be the most comfortable thing at first but you do get used to it (I have one too for a cist in my foot that's extremely painful when it's aggravated).

Besides that, I can't wait to read more.

How terrible! I feel your pain, I broke my right foot two weeks before we left on our trip a few weeks ago, I spent the entire DL vacation in a cast and wheelchair and then needed to have surgery to repair it once I got home. I really hope you were able to enjoy your trip!

A whole new plan...

My hubby helped me get back into the car and while I was in the ER he and the boys went to a nearby mall and bought me some See's chocolate and a pair of Adidas yoga pants to cheer me up. They are so sweet and I am very lucky. Ty was very happy to have mommy back and did a dance even strapped into his seat. Ethan was happily eating snacks from the mall and gave me big smiles. So Hubby looks at me and asks what we should do now. I said there is no way we are skipping Disney! I said we could get a scooter and see how well I can get around that way. He said we should do whatever I want and he would make it happen. He is a very good and hands on daddy but I knew a lot of the kiddo duties would land in his lap during this trip. He said not to worry at all.

I had the same pain medication packed with us that they prescribed to me as I sometimes have neck spasms so I did not need to go fill my medication right away. I took a pill right away as my foot was very painful. We planned to go pick up the new pills the next day so we could do straight to the hotel and try to get settled.

At 2pm we finally pulled up to the Disneyland Hotel and Ty was excited already by the big Mickey statue they have out by the Valet. He is a little delayed in his speech but when it comes to Disney he is quite fluent. He was ready to get out and party with Mickey. Hubby got the luggage all set with the bell desk and we headed inside. The bellman really wanted to get me a wheelchair and was very sweet. I was going very slow as I was still learning how to walk with the boot. I told him no thank you since we were going to try and get me a scooter after we checked in. He still seemed worries so I must have looked horrible.

There was no line and we walked right up to check in. The woman was so sweet and concerned for my injury. She was trying to get us into a room right away. She could get us a regular room but we really wanted a renovated room and none were to be had yet. I gave my cell number for a text when it was ready. She gave us birthday pins for the boys. I asked about a park scooter rental and she said we could rent one from guest services down the hall, it would be less expensive and we could bring it back to our room every night! Perfect!!

Off to Guest Services....the CM there was amazing. She got us set up with a scooter that would be delivered in about 45 minutes to the bell desk. Then see went on a mission to get us in a renovated room right away. She got us one and with a pool view as well. She was amazing. She even had a super cute Minnie pin with a Hawaiian theme. We traded for the pin and I thanked her a million times for all her help. We headed off (slowly) to find our room. Who did we find along the way....Goofy. The boys were thrilled. The night before as I kissed Ty goodnight, I told him we would see Mickey Mouse the next day and he said "and Goofy mommy" so I guess he knew who we would see first. My hubby and my boys are very goofy and trust me when I say silliness is a big deal in our household. Goofy would fit right in.

Up next: Our room...
