Will sneakers be comfy enough for the parks? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I really don't like the way clunky athletic shoes look on my feet, especially when I'm wearing shorts. In an effort not to hate every picture I'm in, I'm trying to avoid buying that kind of shoe for the trip! I haven't worn Keds in forever, but it was the first shoe that can to mind when I was thinking of what to buy. Anyone have any recommendations? Are flip flops simply out of the question? I'm guessing the answer is yes, but let me knowif I'm wrong! I'm going to be chasing three kids all week and really want to be smart about footwear. TIA!!
I would recommend wearing something that you have broken in and will be comfortable wearing for long hours and LOTS of walking. I'm a fan of wearing Asics because I find their gel insoles comfortable, but I also regularly wear those at home. Many people wear flip flops and Crocs are another popular choice.
I love my Mickey Croc's in the parks.
I have also worn my broken-in Shape-Ups and found that my feet/legs felt so much better at the end of the day than when I wore my broken-in "walking tennis shoes".
The biggest thing to remember is do not, DO NOT wear brand new shoes. You will regret it!
I have to laugh every time I see another SHOE question, you are going to get about 50 responses! Disney people are pretty passionate about their footwear (or is it more opinionated, lol?). I personally LOVE my croc sandals (not flip flops). Absolutely hate even the thought of wearing sneakers or tennis shoes (Hate SOCKS!) in 90+ heat. My crocs are comfy, no blisters, no sweating, dry fast in rain or water rides, and look pretty nice, too. My kids wear them too, DD the flip flops, DS the regular clunky crocs, and other DS the sandals also. Good luck on your shoe decision!
Last trip I wore my walking shoes and my Sperry flip flops. If you have good flops with arch support, you can do alright with them, I think. No cheap-o ones. I'd add some cushioning and/or arch support to some Keds to make them better for standing in them all day, if you go that route.
I my FitFlops -- especially my Disney ones that I bought in WDW last year. I wear them at home throughout the summer (not the Disney ones, I'm keeping those special for my trips ) and find them extremely comfortable even while touring the parks. Otherwise, I wear my tennis shoes, but I agree they're not the most flattering looking shoes but it beats being unable to walk without a lot of discomfort after a long day of walking.
I alternate between Teva Tirra sandals and my new balance tennis shoes.
Because of my messed up feet thanks to too many years of high heel wearing, I have to wear a shoe with support.
That means no flip flops for me as I haven't found a pair that fit my feet and are comfy/supportive enough for 10+ miles per day walking that I do at Disney.
I never wear flip flops or Crocs - not only are they ugly, they don't have much support. Because I need really good arch support, and I've had issues with plantar fascitis in the past, I always wear sneakers/tennis shoes. Frankly, I don't care how they look. I need my feet to be comfortable.
No matter what you wear, they need to be comfortable. You will walk 6 - 8 miles per day (on average) and stand in line for long periods of time.
You should wear what ever feels the most comfy to you. Everyone's feet are a little different. What's comfy to me might not be comfy to you. What do you usually wear when you plan to be on your feet all day?
I have often felt awkward wearing tennis shoes with some of my outfits too, but I assume most people understand that in the case of touring a park for hours comfort outweighs fashion . I also am a fan of Crocs though, they are very comfortable, fine to get wet and breathable. I wore a cute pair of Keds flats to Epcot once and they started to rub, ouch! Won't be doing that again!

I won't wear anything but comfortable athletic sneakers in the parks! Not the most fashionable, but it's just non-negotiable for me after getting blisters one year. That really hurt! So I don't even think about it. I bring sandals and flip flops for the pool, or dinner. But just sneakers for me when I'm spending a whole day in the parks. (Honestly, I don't even notice them in our pictures!)
I use to wear sneakers, but even though crocs may not look good I find them very comfy and usually wear them. But for sure wear something that you already know is comfy for you. The Grandkids usually have crocs as well.

Love the Magic of Disney Thanks Dad for our first 5 trips.
Thanks for the feedback! So, basically, I think I just need to get over it and buy a pair of tennis shoes. There's no way I'm ruining a trip over a stupid pair of shoes... And blistered feet would be the worst! Thanks for the advice

I agree 100%. My husband is most comfortable wearing his Timberland's. My oldest dd wears her Sperry's, my youngest dd wears Crocs with ankle socks...I would never wear any of those...lol...I agree tennis shoes are not always the most attractive, but when I'm walking the parks that is what I HAVE to wear. So if you have a comfy shoe that you love, I would go with that, but don't try buying a new pair to break in at Disney...that would be a bad idea! Good luck and have fun!
Nike makes a cute and comfy flip flop. It has memory foam in it and I love all three pairs I own. I don't remember the style name but any shoe store should know what you are talking about. I wore mine for three years before I had to throw them away. Ive walked around all day in them and my feet haven't hurt. Ill try and look up the style name for you.
