As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

In the past, I have always requested an upper floor room at Disney resorts because of reading that there can be issues with noise from people walking by in ground floor rooms. But, I'm considering requesting a ground floor room this trip. I'm thinking it would be nice to not have to deal with elevators and stairs! What experiences have you guys had in ground floor rooms (especially at Pop and Beach Club, but also any resorts)? Have you found there to be a problem with noise at night while sleeping?

I've always requested a higher floor, too. I would never want to be in a room where people can walk by and look in the window. I would always have my curtains closed! People aren't always quiet when they are walking by and I would be annoyed by all the noise and lack of privacy.

We stay at the All Stars and when it was Sports, our floor always was on the ground floor (scooter user) and truthfully, I don't ever remember having issues with noise from above. Maybe we're deep sleepers, I don't know but even the year we had a room on the side of the building closest to the pool, the only time I heard noise was if our door was opened or if there was a kid with that high pitched scream they sometimes have. That carries no matter where you are IMO. Now we've been staying at Music and we've been put on the second floor and again, no noise issues from above.
We normally stay at Music and request first floor like Darlene (scooter and autism are our medical issues--plus dragging a dialysis machine into the room). We have stayed in all sections of the resort and have had very few noise problems, even when we were facing the pool at Calypso.
I always request a ground floor and often get it. I have never found it particularly noisy by people walking by. Since I am usually in a mod or value, I would have people passing by no matter what floor I was on due to the outside "balcony" walkways. On the ground floor people are more spread out and walking in the exterior pathways a lot. They can't do that on the higher floors. I have also never had an issue with the people above me making excessive noise. As you can see in my signature, I have had many, many trips to base this experience upon.
Past couple trips we have requested ground floor rooms and have not noticed any noice from above or anything much more than a few people walking by our room which you would have on any floor. I like just being able to walk right to your room without having to take the stairs or elevator.
On any floor of a value or moderate people will be walking by your window. I never had any issues overnight though. Deluxe hotels your door is in a hallway so there is no window. I had a ground floor room at Poly which was great because it was right by a quiet pool so we went out our slider to the pool and just left it open/unlocked. We aren't that occupied that we wouldn't have noticed someone entering the room.

We've not had a ground floor - but we've never had issues with noise from rooms above us at our Disney stays - we HAVE had that issue with "conventional" hotels like Holiday Inn and The Hampton.

Ch-Ch-Changes July 2015
[URL="http://www.passporterboards.com/forums/sharing-adventure-disney-world-trip-reports/288847-ch-ch-changes-ptr-july-16-24-a.html"]
We mostly avoid the ground floor. It was very nice at the Contemporary in the wing rooms because the ground floor rooms have nice patios.
On our first stay at OKW we were in a ground floor unit (in early May) and had a nice pond nearby. The resort was still under construction (we were new members and it was our first stay there). There was a huge rainstorm and although the room was not flooded, we had a lot of frog friends decide to hang out for a while on the porch! They were of course harmless and didn't stay for long, but were kind of loud!
I've been on the ground floor and upstairs, and I will say that I prefer the ground floor. I was upstairs at POP and have been on the ground floor for both Caribbean Beach and Port Orleans French Quarter.
I have found that most people are pretty conscientious when walking by rooms, especially at night. We never heard people stomping around above us, or making a lot of noise. As for looking in the windows, we pretty much keep our privacy drapes closed most the time, so no worries about anyone oogling my middle aged fat rolls (that's reserved for the TSA folks, apparently...).
As older folks, we prefer the ground floor. After a full day of walking around the parks, the last thing I need to do at the end of the day is to hike up stairs or figure out where the elevator is. I put USB LED lamps in each of my windows so I can figure out where I live, and that works out just fine!
I also prefer the ground floor. I don't like schlepping the luggage on elevators, and I don't like dealing with the elevators and/or stairs after a day in the parks. We always request ground floor, and we've always gotten it except on one occasion when ASMovies didn't honor a single room request we made. Sure, you can have people walk by the room, but we keep the curtains, at least the sheers, closed during the day anyway, and the blackout curtains are closed at night. Precisely one time, at ASSports, we had excessive noise outside our room, but we were in the football section, and kids were playing ball on the field. Other than that one evening, we have heard the occasional chatter as people pass by, but I'm willing to deal with that to avoid what I consider to be the bigger inconvenience of elevators and stairs every single day, multiple times.
By the way, I've had 4 ground floor rooms at Pop Century, and they have all been very quiet. However, I avoid the pool view rooms, which would inherently be noisier.
In ten trips I've stayed at all three of the All Stars, Pop and Port Orleans. The only time I've had noise issues while being in a ground floor room was at Port Orleans. I think Disney didn't sound proof Port Orleans as well as the value resorts or maybe the sounding just wasn't as good when Port Orleans was built as it was when the values were built.
I've had a ground floor once at POR. I always request upper floor but that one time I didn't get it. But it was fine. Never heard any noise until our last day when the neighbours from hell moved in next door. Wouldn't have mattered what resort or which floor you were on. You would have heard them.
I always request ground floor rooms. You will get the same noise as any other level, people walking past the room talking very loudly, leaf blower, etc. Never had any issues with hearing the people above me but I have had issues with the people next to me but you get that on any floor.
