As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Suggestions for off-site accomodations
Can anyone suggest any decent but not too expensive off-site accomodations? To give you an example of what we are not looking for, we stayed one night at the Holiday Inn West Maingate on Black Lake Road, and will never return to a Holiday Inn again. We were considering the Radisson Resort Parkway hotel, any thoughts on this location? We need a place to stay the night we arrive in Orlando, before we head off to WDW. Thanks!

Re: Suggestions for off-site accomodations
We've been staying off site the first night at Hampton Inns. The first one was the Hampton Inn behind the Radisson Resort Parkway. I didn't like that one at all and we won't be staying there again.
In April, we stayed at the Hampton Inn right on 192 (at the corner of Sherborne Rd). Sherborne Road (I hope that's the right name or spelling) comes right out at the light right before AKL at Osceola Parkway (where we usually stay) so we just took the back road in. It was reasonable, with my AAA rate, I paid about $70, and breakfast was free (and they had a good breakfast).
We've also stayed at Hotel Royal Plaza, but it was closed in April when we were there. A little more expensive than the Hampton Inn, and no free breakfast.

Re: Suggestions for off-site accomodations
Okay, I have to put my two cents in here...I would have to say Sheraton Vistana Resort if it's not too much out of your price range. I would think you could get a pretty good rate there. It's a large resort just for one night though I guess. I don't know...Unless you were looking for a smaller hotel...but thought I might suggest it I guess. Hopefully that helps!!

Re: Suggestions for off-site accomodations
Amanda, can you tell me why you suggest the Sheraton Vistana resort? Can you tell me a little bit about it? I'm definately not looking either way as far as size of hotel. I do however need something that is VERY clean and EXTREMELY safe.

Re: Suggestions for off-site accomodations
Oh my gosh! This resort is absolutely beautiful. We stayed there last time we went to WDW. The resort is very large and just gorgeous. Their are like 7 or 8 pools and a lake right in the middle with some fountains. Each room has a full-size kitchen with everything...stove, full-size refrigerator/freezer, microwave, everything...It also has a screened in patio and living room. I'm pretty sure you can get a one-bedroom or a two-bedroom suite. We did the 2 bedroom because it was my parents and then me (21 at the time) and my fiance (23 at the time). So, we did this resort because it was affordable for the amount of space we needed. Since ours was a 2 bedroom, it also had 2 bathrooms and it was just so nice. The whole resort was just beautiful. I loved it there and if we were staying off-site, we would definitely stay there again. But my fiance has never been there and stayed on-site, so we're staying at CBR. So, I guess I would just say, look into it and the prices but I know it was pretty affordable for the four of us to stay there in a 2 BR. I hope this helps a little bit...

Re: Suggestions for off-site accomodations
Okay, so I just checked out your timer and you leave in 310 days? What month would that be then that you're going?? I was just looking at the prices for right now and they're insane "per night" so hopefully these are not the prices for when you're going. It is a beautiful resort but maybe a little too much for one night? I don't know...When we went, we spent seven nights there and enjoyed it but I don't know for sure about one night. So, I don't know. I went to travelocity and tried to look at the price of it. But, the one thing said $156/night but of course, "how did they come up with this price?" and it was an average based on rooms right now or something. I don't know...something to look into but maybe this is much more than what you're looking for. We liked the kitchen idea because we saved so much money on food cooking in our room!

Re: Suggestions for off-site accomodations
I would trust any Marriott or Hilton property. They are always very well maintained. Look at Courtyards and Fairfield Inns by Marriott if you want the lower end.
I've always stayed at Homewood Suites by Hilton-not necessarily in Orlando and found them excellent-no matter where we stayed.
I've stayed in Vistana Villages-sister resort to the Vistana-and would stay again in a heartbeat-great accomodations at a resonable price. My only caveat is that we've found that when you go drom a condo or villa to a room (or in our case 2 rooms) on site, those Disney rooms seem really small. We went from a two bedroom at Wyndham Palms-also highly recommended-to two rooms at the AKL. Both my husband and son were not that impressed by the AKL in part because the rooms seemed really small.

Re: Suggestions for off-site accomodations
We're going to need a one night stop over of some sort for May 9th, 2006. We're wondering though if maybe we should just stay one night at the CBR instead of offsite, since we KNOW we like CBR. It'll be expensive yes, but maybe the peace of mind until then is worth it? Plus if we come early enough in the day on the 9th, maybe we can spend the day at a pool or something. The Sheraton Vistana sounds like it might be a bit much for us, with the kitchen and all, I don't know why, perhaps it's because I spend so much time in the kitchen at home and all, but I find having a kitchen in my hotel while I'm on vacation a bit stressful and overwhelming.

Re: Suggestions for off-site accomodations
Nicole,
We stayed at Radisson Resort Parkway during our visit in 03-and have had friends stay there since. It is a great hotel! Very clean and we felt very safe. The rooms were big and nicely done. The pool area was great, our children are still talking about the cool slide and waterfall. They have two pools, one with a nice waterslide ( even us adults went down ) and a waterfall. The other pool was a quiet heated pool. The hot tubs were tucked away in alcoves and were very nice.
The Radisson Resort Parkway is almost right across from Celebration Hospital and a 5 minute drive to WDW- very easy to get to.
The prices are reasonable, and they usually run specials.
Let me know if you have any questions

Re: Suggestions for off-site accomodations
My sister and her family stayed at the AmeriSuites by the airport their first night. They have free transportation to and from the airport. So if you are renting a car you would be paying for a few hours less. You can either go back to the airport to pick up the car, or you can have it delivered to your resort. If you are using a towncar service, you can just have them pick you up at the hotel. They also have a free breakfast.

Re: Suggestions for off-site accomodations
Hi! We've stayed at Country Inns and Suites in LBV. At the end of Hotel Blvd. (coming from DD) you make a left, and it's a few blocks down. It's very nice and reasonable, and they do have specials. We stayed there once in early Dec. for $49.00/night. Another option you have is to stay at a value resort for one night. This way you can use DME if you need to, and they will move your luggage to CB the next day for you. This is our plan for Nov. before we head to OKW & SSR.
