Minnie vans now running to and from Orlando International Airport - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Minnie vans now running to and from Orlando International Airport

The Disney Minnie Van service introduced last year is now available for travel to and from Orlando International Airport for guests staying at any Walt Disney World Resort hotel. Unlike the regular Minnie Van service, however, Minnie Van airport shuttle service reservations must be made by calling 407-WDW-PLAY, not through the Lyft app. The shuttle service is available for flight arrivals from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and for flight departures from 9 a.m. to midnight. Each Minnie Van can hold up to six passengers and eight medium-sized suitcases. Up to three complimentary car seats can also be provided and ADA accessible vehicles are available. The price is $150 one way.

For groups of three to six that's between $50 and $25 per person so per person it would probably be cheaper than one person taking a cab and possibly cheaper than a shuttle. I just looked at Quicksilver's pricing and for a towncar that holds up to four passengers round trip to the various hotels and parks at DW is $125 or $130 so a one way Minnie van from MCO is more expensive than a round trip a Quicksilver towncar.

I figured they'd be more expensive. You're right, if you have a big group, then it's better value. Not so great for a couple though.

For two of us, my answer is no. I would not pay $150, particularly given that it would be just one way. You can get round trip from Sanford airport for $150, plus a cheaper flight.
For me, the interest in the Minnie Vans is to get from one location to another on property in a streamlined, time saving manner. It has the potential to maximize experiences that are important to you at WDW. Getting to the resort from the airport is unlikely to attract me to a Minnie Van.
The shuttle services or town cars by Mears, Quicksilver and others will certainly be cheaper. The minnie vans are about double the price for the town cars.

Why would I pay $150 one way when I can ride ME for free? We have used ME since it began and have never had a problem with it. I don't think I would use the van service unless it was same price as ME.

That is pretty pricey; if it was round-trip and we were traveling with a larger group, it might be something to consider. But otherwise, DME works quite well for us. The money saved could be better used on other things like a nice meal or two.
I am a big fan of the Minnie Vans while on property. We tend to spend over $100 a trip on vans but that is saving a ton of hassle over the course of the vacation. We have never really had a problem with MDE, ever. so I don't see us springing for that. The only situation I could see is if we were there at peak time, the lines were huge, we had all kinds of flight delays, and a reservation to get to. It would really have to be the perfect storm of hassle to spend that kind of $$.
$150 one way???? OMG! Are you kidding me????? Couldn't Disney had brought the price down a wee bit.....I took a cab to the airport and it was $60 + tip. Still..... DME is always my way of Transportation to my resort and back to the airport!

........I saw some of the cars for the first time ...in person ....last week parked near the buses at Animal Kingdom. They are "cute" ....but not $150 dollars cute!!

Exactly! We usually drive, and not the distance that you do. I can drive to WDW and back home for about $150.
Based on everyone’s reaction here, I have to wonder how popular these vans will be at MCO. As I said previously, I can see convenience, ease, and time savings on property, but to and from the airport might be less appealing for a lot of folks.

....I agree ....and I can only see these vans being "widely popular" to the same crowd that will pay Disney-Level prices to attend a dessert party, or pay for a select area to watch Illuminations. I am by no means poverty stricken, nor do I still possess the first dollar I ever made .....but I cannot EVER see myself paying this sum of money for what amounts to an Uber ride in Mouse's clothing.
