Victoria and Albert's - Who all has tried this? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ended up going to this place last year (on a whim) and I must say, my life is forever changed. I used to somewhat scoff at those shows on TV featuring plates with tiny portions. I thought, there is no way it can be worth that much effort.... Boy, was I wrong.
We spent four hours at Victoria and Albert's - which seemed like less than an hour. The food was amazing. I can't begin to describe how much I enjoyed it. Yes, it was pricey, but honestly, I truly believe people need to try this at least once in their lifetime.

We've done all three dining levels--the dining room 7-course, Queen Victoria's Room and Chef's Table, both 10-course.
Every time has been well worth the price, outrageous though that seems. So much so that we're going back to the QVR this next trip. While we enjoyed CT, it felt like eating dinner onstage at a gourmet cooking show, very exciting and consequently a bit tiring due to so much to see and learn. QVR has the same basic menu as CT but is far more relaxing.
Can hardly wait!!
Which did you do?

Just DR the last go - depending on the availability we might do something different.
Curious, do you usually do the wine pairings or just get ad hoc drinks/bottles? We did wine pairings last time and loved it, although it's a pretty steep price.
No, we neither can drink alcohol for health reasons, which I hate as I'm sure the wine pairings are amazing.
I was a little shocked in QVR by the result of the wine pairings for two of the three couples at the other tables. The couple nearest us requested about half the usual pours and handled that well, although the woman limited the last few to even less. I suspect the other two couples, who looked somewhat younger, underestimated what all that wine could do. They both got pretty loud and silly before dessert.

DH and I usually agree, but he said upon reading my post about CT that he preferred it and didn't find it tiring at all. Part of that may be due to his staying seated while I had to hop up every so often to get a closer look at what the chefs were doing.
And, there were two enormous electric stockpots near the wrought-iron railing that separated our room from the kitchen. Those stocks simmering smelled so fabulous I couldn't resist getting my nose as close as permitted every so often. The stocks simmer for 8-12 hours, one chef told me.
Asking questions of the chefs working nearest where our table was is probably what wore me down. It was all so intriguing, and we were encouraged to ask about what we saw them doing so I definitely took advantage of that opportunity.
If you ever can book CT and enjoy cooking, it truly is a thrilling experience.

I definitely will consider this. Any idea the price variation? Also, what were the durations of your visits so far? As I mentioned, I believe ours ended up being nearly four hours, and that was only the 7 course.

The price variations are pretty standard. $235 per person for the 10 course meal whether in QVR or the main dining room as a "degustation menu". $340 -$385 with wine pairings. CT it is $250 per guest. $355 - $400 with wine pairings. Of course, tax and gratuities are extra. As has been said, pricey, but worth it.
The previous poster (related to me by marriage--ours. ) answered your price question adequately, I trust.
We left the QVR around 9:30 or so, the CT at about 10:00. They don't mind, I've read, if you need to take a break midway through CT to go walk it off some and then return. It really is a LOT of food even though the portions are quite small.
I can't imagine having room for the wine pairings even if we could do those. We virtually waddle out of the place anyway.

Hah! Perfect. Thanks to both of you. Any idea how far in advance I should be booking? Last time I kind of lucked out and got in the day before.
Definitely on your 180 for CT. We just barely managed to book it the year we did that even though we were doing ADR's the moment online booking opened. Since only a single party of 2-10 gets it per night, and CT isn't done daily, getting it is more challenging.
QVR is also one to go for immediately your ADR window opens because there are only four tables in the room. I don't know if it's available every night or not, but we scrambled to book that one first this time, too.
Yes, you probably were pretty lucky to get the main room the day before, likely happening upon a cancellation, despite that room's accommodating more diners than the other two.

We did the main DR a few years ago. And we are shocked that we got the Queen Victoria's room this Sept for our 20th anniversary. Looking forward to that celebration!
Late to the party but wanted to chime in! We did QVR with wine pairing our first (and hopefully, not last) time, and it was amazing. I can truly say that was the first time I really "got it" when people would talk about how a particular wine brought out the flavor of a dish. Because DH just can't resist spending extra money we got 2 of the available upgrades. That brought our total, with tax and gratuity, to just shy of $1,000 . Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY!!!
I've not been, but it's on my bucket list. I must admit though, that having gone to culinary school, CT would be the place I would want to be. Seeing them all doing the things I know how to do would be awesome. Magic happens in the kitchen and it would be wonderful to see knowing that I also get to taste!
I've ate here a few times and in the main dining room and QVR. It truly is an amazing gastronomical experience! Especially, QVR and I always do the wine pairings. They really compliment the would, but they do catch up to you!

October 6, 2017-Enjoying an amazing dinner at Victoria & Albert's with PP's Dot and Drew
My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
We ate at V&A in the Queen Victoria room in 2014 and the food was exceptional. Unfortunately, the couple at the next table (and there are only four tables in the room) struck up a conversation with us that overshadowed the meal, at least for me. I didn't think I would want to go back but our 25th anniversary is in December, so I'm going to give it another try! I will say that both the service and food were exceptional, but I found the other couple utterly distracting! I want to have a better and happier experience this time around. I'm going to try for Chef's Table, which would be amazing, but it'll be sheer luck if we can get it!
