As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am started our packing for our trip in 10 days!
We are going for 2 weeks and staying at Cypress Pointe Resort, so we have a washer and dryer in our unit.
How much clothes would you pack, so that we don't take too much, but also so we are not constantly doing laundry? We also may do some clothes shopping while we are there, so we need room to bring stuff home too. I am also assuming that for my girls (4 & 4) I will need an extra outfit or 2 over the adults since they are more likely to get messy.
I generally tend to overpack, but can't do it this trip, since we are flying. Your help is very much appreciated.
I tend to overpack too. However in 2005 my friend and I had what we know call the "Kathy and Alyssa Get Smart Trip" we pack only a handful of tshirts a couple pairs of shorts, a bathing suit, etc. Basically we pack what we could get by with for about half the week. Then we did laundry and had the same clothes for the rest of the week. So I would do that for the adults and pack a little extra for your girls. Good luck
I would pack 5 days of clothes. Tshirts, jeans, underwear, and shorts. Also 3 sweatshirts that can be worn over the T's if it gets cold. Since you have a washer/dryer I would bring 2 swimsuits each and 2 pairs of pjs.

Have fun.
Would you have 5 bottoms total (jeans, pants, shorts)? in this mix, or are you assuming you would wear some things more than once in the 5 days. (I think 5 days of shirts might be 5 actual tops of some sort - but I am unsure of the bottoms)

Have you looked at 10 day forecast? If they are predicting warmer weather I would pack 3 or 4 shorts and 2 jeans and reverse if they are predicting cooler weather. Tshirts or Tops, it doesn't make a difference. I would just make sure they are short sleeved. It tends to be a little chilly in the mornings and then hot in the afternoons.
It is true that your daughers will probably get messier in WDW than just hanging at home. If I had a washing machine and dryer I'd probably plan on doing a small load of clothes every other night so I didn't have to schlep a lot with me. I try not to pack too many jeans or long pants as they take up the most room in the luggage (always try to keep extra room in luggage for souveniers on the return trip.) Then I do a load of wash of just pants.
On our last trip we had a washer/dryer & dh was so afraid I was going to over pack and get another fee from the airline (OK so I have a heavy bag 1 time & it comes up every time we fly).
So I packed 2 pairs of pjs per person since I could do wash & no one would see them. I also packed light on socks & underwear. I packed 1 shirt a day since that would show in pictures but only 1/2 the bottoms. I basically stuck to khaki & navy shorts for the boys with mix & match tops.
I don't know about you, but I think jeans are better on the 2nd or 3rd day. I will wear my bottoms several days, but not the shirts. Of course, the kids are different. I would pack no more than 5 days worth. It's not too hard to run a load at night while you are getting the girls to bed. After all DH can pitch in and help with the chores.
I agree with everyone else...we are leaving in just 3 days!!! I have packed 7 t-shirts (unders & socks) , one long sleeve shirt, one sweatshirt, two pairs of jeans, two pairs of jean shorts, two swimsuits, and one pair of PJ's (for each of my children)...approximately the same for hubby and I. We are going to be gone for 10 days, so I'm counting on doing laundry at least one time...possibly more times if our jeans/shorts need washing...btw, thanks for the reminder, I need quarters!!! I think I'll add an extra pair of jeans or shorts for my 4 year old who still has the occasional accident.
On our last trip we were right across the hall from the washer and dryer at VWL. After my first trip to do laundry, I really wished I had packed a whole lot less as it was so convenient. This summer we will be in a one-bedroom at AKV, so I plan on taking about 7 days worth of clothes. We usually buy several t-shirts each anyway.
I'd suggest 3 pairs of pants and 5 shirts for adults (maybe 2 long sleeved, 3 short sleeved, so you can layer) and 5 pairs of pants and 7 shirts (both long and short sleeved) for the girls.
That way you aren't constantly doing laundry, and you should still have plenty of room for bringing things home. And that way if you get tshirts or sweatshirts there, you can wear them and not feel like, "Gosh why did I bring 3 sweatshirts from home when I only want to wear my Mickey one!" Know what I mean?
just make sure you bring warm clothes we went in dec on the 5th and during the day we were fine with a tshirt and jeans and I allways had a light sweatshirt with me just in case but at night you need something warmer one night it was only 42 but some nights it was like 55 to 60 so you need stuff you can layer hope this helps
Any time you stay in a unit with included laundry machines you should pack a lot less. Sure, you don't want to constantly do laundry, but all you have to do is load up the machines before you leave in the morning and your laundry is done when you get back.
For a full two-week (14-15 day) stay, I agree with those who say pack enough clothes for 5 days. This means you'll have to do laundry twice during your stay.
Your clean clothes will also be extended somewhat by new t-shirts and sweatshirts that you might buy (always plan on two trips to the Disney outlets for this, it will save you tons of money!), so you won't need to pack as much.
For many things in life, I go by the motto "Two is one, and one is none." However, when I pack for vacation, I take the risk and don't pack spares of everything - I go with one sweatshirt, one pair of shoes (the ones I wear to the airport), and only one clean shirt, socks, and underwear per day (plus one extra pair of socks and undies, just in case I get soaked on a ride.) When you have laundry facilities in your unit, the need for redundancy is completely eliminated - spill catsup all over your only sweatshirt? No problem, just wash it when you get back to the condo that night.
Also keep in mind that Mom is not the only one capable of doing laundry - teach Dad and the kids how to at least sort their laundry, so Mom doesn't doesn't have to do the whole thing on her vacation.
And while some folks are meticulous in their sorting, I am far less so on vacation. I simply divide everything into "whites" and "colors", and call it a day. Two loads, and you're done; all the clothes for an average family of 4 over 5 days should equal one full load of laundry or less.
For actual clothes, I'd take "enough for a 5 or 6 days" with me, not including the clothes I was wearing to travel there (by airplane, mind). For an adult or older kid, anyway.
For socks and underwear, 8 to 10 days' worth. While I can, have, and will wear the same pair of jeans for two or even three days, if they don't get spilled-on or stained ... I wont wear the same pair of skivvies, nor socks, two days running ... not if I have ANY other choice.
And, despite lacking experience as a parent ... I'd take 8 to 11 changes of clothes for very young kids, and 10 to 12 changes' worth of underthings. IOW, two or three extra full "crown-to-toe, skin-to-sunshine" changes for each.
Plus shoes, swimwear, and appropriate outerwear, of course.
This should produce only two "laundry days" during a two-week trip ... one at he end of each week (I hate bringing dirty clothes home from vacation).

5 days worth seems to be the most common answer - this is about what I was thinking too. DH is actually the biggest packer, so this will help to convince him hopefully. He tends to be the one to pack the entire house, just in case, but is also just as likely as I to purchase new things while we are away especially when we cross the border. We often come home with 3 or more outfits that never got worn.
We do have laundry right in our unit and it doesn't even cost to use it, so I want to take advantage of that too, since with 2 four year olds we need to travel with many more things than we need for just the 2 of us.
Time to finish taking down the Christmas tree to make room for packing.
