As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
This is where it gets serious America!
This week:
Song #1 = Chosen by Clive Davis
Song #2 = Chosen by one of the judges
Song #3 = Chosen by the Idols
OK, so here’s your recap!!!
Elliott –
Song #1 = ”Open Arms” by Journey --- I honestly wasn’t sure Elliott could pull off that song. I KNEW there would have to be a slight key change to fit his voice . . . plus, I don’t think he could hit those higher notes like Steve Perry can. All in all, I thought he did an OK job with it though! Definitely different for him!
Song #2 = ”What You Won’t Do For Love” by Bobby Caldwell --- Paula was actually right when she said that the song was right for his voice. And I thought he did a great job, even if he does still look a bit awkward up there.
Song #3 = ”I Believe to my Soul” by Ray Charles --- And he sang the Donnie Hathaway version . . . Elliott loves him some Donnie Hathaway!
So, um . . . Elliott is one soulful dude. It was like he’s been singing this song in the mirror to himself . . .
Katharine –
Song #1 = ”I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly --- ick. I haven’t ever really liked this song to begin with, but . . . ugh. She can sing and she’s pretty, but I am tired of her. I think it is important to try and make a song your own when you are “covering” it, but honestly, she goes WAY too far most times trying to stylize it. Notice Paula never said what she thought about her performance? I was waiting for a wardrobe malfunction with that dress she had . . . then noticed a couple of times where she gave Ryan googly eyes like she wanted to make out with him or something! After this song, Mike looked at me and said “Geez . . . she’s pretty full of herself, huh?”
Song #2 = ”Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by --- And then after this one, Mike said “Um . . . Judy Garland definitely did it better.” (She got a little Celine Dion-ish there at the end . . . I kind of giggled at that.) She did alright, and it was her best performance throughout the entire competition though!
Song #3 = ”I Ain’t Got Nothin’ but the Blues” by Ella Fitzgerald --- She was good, but a bit showy . . . and her voice isn’t QUITE fit for that song. I only say that because I have heard the Ella version and the Rosemary Clooney version and they both have such BIG voices. She was OK though.
Taylor –
Song#1 = “Dancing In The Dark” by Bruce Springsteen --- The first thing I said was “WHY would someone choose a song that might make Taylor dance!?” Then when he did the Courteney Cox-Bruce dance from the video with Paula . . . I was in frickin’ hysterics!!! It was a great performance . . . except when he flubbed one line of the lyrics.
Song #2 = ”You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker --- It was almost like Taylor was meant to sing that song! I am not the biggest fan of the song (thanks to my dad who played it over and over and over again when I was a kid ) but I think it was quite nice! Simon was clapping, smiling and saying he loved it . . .
Song #3 = ”Try a Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding --- GEEZ . . . Soul Patrol. That’s about all I can say about this one. WOOT for Taylor!
Silly note about Taylor’s last song . . . . I giggled a bit, because everytime I hear this song, I think of the movie “Bull Durham” where Tim Robbins sings it as “She may get woolly, young girls they do get woolly, because of all the stress” (Instead of the Otis version which says, “She may be weary, young girls they do get weary, wearing the same old shaggy dress”) Kevin Costner put him right though “I hate people who get the words wrong. It ain't woolly it's weary and nobody's got stress, they're wearing a dress.”
(OK . . . end of my randomness . . . )
So . . . . MY PICK THIS WEEK:
Going Home: Katharine
Leaving your finale between Taylor and Elliott
COMING UP NEXT: Someone is going home tomorrow night and it will be down to the final 2!!! Who’s going home!? Stay tuned!!!!

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
I haven't been posting my opinions but decided to jump in this week.
DD and I both think Elliot is going home tonight. That is where our paths diverge !
I think Kat will tank at the finals and Taylor will win, she's rooting for Kat!

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
I forgot completely about this being on.....
I went for a walk and came back to the house and DD was watching Caddyshack.....so I sat to watch with her.
I wish I'd seen Taylor doing "Try a Little Tenderness".....I love that song.(Went out and bought Otis's album after I heard it the first time). And when I think of it, I think of Ducky singing it in the record store in "Pretty in Pink". Love that scene.
Can't give any input, but hope Katherine goes. I think one of the two guys should win.

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
I like Elliot, but I think he may be the one going home tonight. Here's my take on him. I think that someone told him he could sing and should try out for AI. He did and has gone alot farther than anyone expected. As for stage presence, that can be learned and he probably needs more exposure to the stage. When Whitney Houston was on her first tour, critics complained that all she did was stand on stage and sing, that she was wooden and needed to move around more. Granted that Elliot is no Whitney, but I see what he lacks can be picked up, plus with a bit more polishing he should do ok in the real world.
Now for Katharine, I didn't like the first song. I thought she did great on the second song. Over the Rainbow is a hard song to sing because you will always be compared to Judy Garland. Two people who have sung it and made it their own - Andrea McArdle (she played the original Broadway Annie and Judy Garland in a bio pic) and Sam Harris from the first Star Search. The last song was just too big for her, though she loves to sing bluesy songs, I'm not sure she should. I also think that she has become unsure of herself since she first was put into the bottom three.
I think I'm in the minority who is not a fan of Taylor. I don't see him as original, but as a copy of Joe Cocker/Ray Charles. I also have a hard time not picturing John Belushi whenever I see Taylor perform. He'll probably do well and go on to the final round and possibly win.

OMG!!! I was so hoping someone would mention this. We had to pause because I started laughing so hard.
Anyway....
I actually voted last night for Taylor. You know my 4 votes are gonna make a difference. Taylor is moving on to the finals for sure.
Katharine: Was not impressed with the first and third song. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was good. IMO, I cannot escape the original with Judy Garland.
Elliott: He has his own genre that is for sure. He seemed very uptight through all the performances. He was good but no WOW factor.
I'm gonna say it will be Elliott that goes home.

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
This season is getting mighty boring There's just no excitement anymore. We all know Taylor is going to win, and that's that. Anyway...
Elliott: Open Arms - I love Elliott, and always have. However, I didn't think this was great. It wasn't at all bad, he sounded awesome, but it was kind of boring.
Elliott: What Yuo Won't Do For Love - Hideous song. I was very bored with it. Again, Elliott sounded great, but it was just such a boring song.
Eliott: I Believe to My Soul - Again, hated the song! I love soulful music, but his song choices were just off.
Katharine: I Believe I Can Fly - One of the cheesiest songs of all time, and she managed to make it worse. She's so screachy I just can't listen.
Katharine: Somewhere Over the Rainbow - BORING. And I was about to smack her through the TV for lying on the floor AGAIN. Ugh, I don't like Katharine
Katharine: I Ain't Got Nothing But the Blue - The song was horrible for her voice. She screaches wa too much. Next.
Taylor: Dancing in the Dark - Eh, it was OK. He's a great performer, and that captures people. Other than that, his voice is NOT good. He sounds like a lounge singer. He has a novelty voice, and no range.
Taylor: You Are So Beautiful To Me - I KNEW he's eventually sing Joe Cocker. He's no where nea as good as Joe, but this was a pretty good performance. It was alright.
Taylor: Try a Little Tenderness - Not so good.
Should Be Out - Katharine
Will Be Out - Elliott

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
Wow, was I hearing the same Katharine singing 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' as the judges?? I thought it was horrid - she sounded like a man in parts of it even! Yuck.
I agree, this season is much more boring than past seasons. I remember being so excited when it was the Ruben/Clay finale - now I could care less.
Ho-hum..

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
I could not stand any of Katherine's songs last night -- the girl drives me batty!! In the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit that I really don't care for "I Believe I Can Fly" anyway, but Katherine's version made me cringe, repeatedly. She looked way too happy to be singing about having the blues in her third song. And Kimberley Locke did a MUCH better version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in Season 2. Katherine = Blech!! Bob has really liked Katherine all season, but even he was saying it should be her going tonight.
I voted a bunch for Taylor (I think I'm in love with him ) and some for Elliott (loved his first and second songs; third song was not a great choice).
I'd like to see Katherine go home, but I'm really afraid it might be Elliott.
P.S. Did anybody else wonder what the judges and Clive Davis would have chosen for Chris???

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
DH got home around 7:45 and I said, "Come on, let's leave. I'm in no mood for Idol. What's the point?" We got in the car and were almost to Dairy Queen when I said "You know, I've gone this far and protesting the last two shows isn't going to do anything. " So DH said, "Do you want to go home? I want to see Taylor." So we got BOGO Blizzards and got home at 8:02.
Why can't Clive Davis open his eyes??
Elliot: Open Arms - one of my all time favorite songs, and he messed up the chorus. Still sang it well, though. His other two songs were unheard of, but he sang them well.
Katharine: First song - HATE that song, she did really bad at it. When Paula was stumbling over her words...did anyone catch the "roll eyes come on you gotta be kidding me" look on Katharine's face?? What a snot. She's too full of herself. Second song - awesome. The arrangement was great. Third song - her original element, which is why I started off liking her, but WAAAAAY to screechy! Ick.
Taylor - LOVED IT. Loved all his songs! Dancing in the Dark was great and I had to explain to DH the Courteney Cox thing.
Taylor's definatley going thru. No doubt he'll win the whole thing. Elliot should go thru, but it's going to be Katharine. Elliot looked sad and distracted thru all his songs last night. DH was wondering if his mom is getting worse or something.

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
Who do I want to win? This season is SOOOOO boring.
I missed the first 2 songs because my meeting ran a bit late.
Here is my take on the night:
I didn't think Katherine was THAT bad. She really needed to get the heck off the floor. What was up with that? How many times have you gone to a concert and seen the artist sitting on the floor? That is just weird. Honestly I think she has a chance of making it to the finale
Taylor was okay. "You Are So Beautiful" was nice for his voice but I don't think he hit a homerun with it. His Bruce impression was weird.
Elliot was not so great in fact I think he opened the door to losing out of the final two last night. He has come out of his shell alittle which is refreshing.
Going home: Elliot
(although I think Katherine’s MANY bad nights should not be overlooked because she had one GOOD night, sadly I doubt that will be the case.)
ON a side note I tried for the whole two hours last night to vote in fact my cell phone battery was drained trying. I still didn't get a vote in!

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
I really thought Katharine did an amazing job with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". But, that being said, I am hoping Elliott and Taylor are on the road to the final 2. Tried to vote for Taylor, and never got through, but did get through for Elliott.

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
I have been a long time devotee to Katherine. I picked her out from the very beginning and said she would make it to the final 2. That being said I think that Elliott will be goijng home tonight. His songs were not all that great and why is it that when katherine sings a whitney or ella song they say there is no one like the original but when Elliot scres up a Ray Charles song they don't tell him he's no Ray Charles????? ANyway....I like Taylor.....didn't like the Bruce song very much but the last 2 were good. ANd as for Katherine I think she was right on when she said back to the judges that she didn't pick the song when they told her not a good song choiice.(Clive picked it) Also I was in tears the whole way thru somewhere over the rainbow....right from the beginning she drew you in and got your attention. Simon was right she had her moment and if she is smart she will sing this song in the finals!!!!!

Re: American Idol -- 5/16/06 -- The Final THREE!
Elliot went into my doghouse by singing Open Arms (by my favorite band, JOURNEY) off-key.
Katherine needs to get off the cloud she's on and come back to reality.. Girl, you ain't all-that! You can't sing, you've got so-so looks and you don't know how to dress.
Taylor nailed two of the three songs he performed (Dancin' in the Dark was so-so) and deserves to win the title.
That being said, Katherine goes home tonight, Elliot wins the title next week.... America likes his "story" and he'll have more votes than Taylor in the end.
