As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

How many of you use a PassHolder pouch while touring the parks?
I have one, but haven't used it yet! It came as a "freebie" with something Disney-related that I bought off eBay a few years ago. I brought it on our last trip in '06 but it never left the room. I had a waist pack at the time and didn't think I wanted something hanging around my neck.
So who uses one, and do you find it convenient? I'm considering using it this year, as I won't be using the waist pack. I do have a Buxton bag for "stuff" but the idea of the PassHolder having certain key items at the ready might be appealing... Has anyone ever used a longer cord and slung it across your chest, instead of just around your neck??

I used one on our last trip and loved it. I carried my key to the world, my Disney Visa, a little cash, chapstick, and a pen and maybe a few other small items. It had room for my fastpasses and allowed me to keep my hands free and my waist small (well, less wide). I attached my camera case to my belt and that left me free to hug any character I came across and comfortable in all the rides. It also allowed me to pass through the entrance without having to go through the bag lines. I really recommend them.
I would love Jennifer and Dave to come out with a camera size PP bag.
I think that is a great idea! I wish Jennifer and Dave woudl consider having PassPorter canvas bags as well so I could transport all the pool goodies back and forth from room to water in a very fashionable way!!

While I find the clear passholder pouches for sale at Disney not convenient (they have a horizontal orientation that makes it difficult getting out the passes/tickets, credit cards, etc), the PP Passholder pouch is divine for my needs.
It has just the right amount of pockets and is very convenient. I love mine!
Eileen
I can't imagine a Disney trip without my Passholder pouch. It even comes in handy while flying as you can keep your passport or I.D. in there along with your flight documentation, etc. It's so nice when in the parks to have everything you need when it comes to park passes, money, etc. right there at your fingertips without having to dig through a bag to find them. And best of all, it frees us up from having to go through the baggage check line on our way into the parks.

I'm so glad to read about "NOT" having to go through the "check bag" line using the Passporter pouch - i am getting one for our trip. I was always the one "holding the bag" so I had to go through check points. I even put off buying stuff at the parks cause I had to go through the line. Don't get me wrong, I am glad they are checking!!
Thanks, Cyndi
I love mine! My dh thinks I am a huge Disney freak (he is right ) and makes fun of me often, mostly in a joking manner. When I first whipped out my PassHolder when we were headed to the park he said, "Really, honey? Isn't that a bit much?" Of course, I then became self conscience thinking that it really was too much. I threw it in my backpack and headed for the park. We were not inside the park 10 minutes when I decided I really needed it. I was right. It is a staple now on every trip. We keep our photopass, fastpasses, our park tickets, etc. in the pouch. I do not have to worry about leaving it on a ride - it is around my neck. Dh was the first to admit he was wrong. He really likes the convenience of the PassHolder.
I would prefer a longer string so that it could go across my chest but other than that it is great!

Since Minnie's chair is gone, I had to find a new place to have our photo taken this past Oct. Not sure this will be the permanent place.
I bought one but haven't used it yet. I do plan on getting some longer cord from the fabric store and replacing the one that's on it. I'm weird about things around my neck - you won't ever catch me in a turtle neck. With a longer cord I can put it across my chest which will make it much more comfortable to me.

All right, you guys have me sold! I do like the across-the-shoulder idea better, though, so I may experiment with that before we go.
I LOVE the skip-the-bag-check idea, too, but I need some sort of bag or larger pouch for my camera, so sadly I can't avoid that altogether. But at least now I won't be digging for a Photopass card or Key to the World card!
I personally love the freedom of not going with tons of stuff. (My son is older and doesn't need much to get through a day, plus I travel with girlfriends and they don't carry bags either.)
With the PP PassHolder Pouch, I can carry my resort card, my annual pass, my FastPasses, my credit card in the front pocket. (Easy access for me, but they stay in there great!) I keep receipts and money in the zippered pouch behind that. On the back, I hook my clamshell-style cell phone over the pocket (the front flap inside the pocket and the back section hanging out the back. My new chocolate-bar style phone fits in the pocket. I have a long, reinforced cable for my camera and hang that around my neck.
I breeze through the no-bags line and stay hands free all day.
