As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

age 7
I am looking at different WDW books. One says they don't recommend Tower of Terror for 7 and below and Passporter actually says no one under 8. WDW has yet to meet my daughter. Anyone encounter this? And what does WDW say about age on Rockin Roller Coaster and Tower. My daughter says she is going on it no matter what. She will be 7 when we go. Anyone? Can I contact someone about this? Thanks again.

Re: age 7
It really depends on the kid. Your 7 yr old will be allowed on it if she is over the height requirement (there is no age requirement that I know of).
Both my kids love RnR and will do it a couple times each visit.
My daughter didn't want to have anything to do with the ride until this year (she is 8 1/2) and my son did it with me for the first time last year at age 9, but isn't interested in doing it again any time soon. Neither was willing to do it before then, and I always had to ride alone. -HiddenMickey

Re: age 7
My 6-1/2 year old is really thinking about going on Rockin Roller Coaster this year. She will make the height requirement. She loved space mountain last year and was very disappointed she was too short for Primeval Whirl. She is definetely my thrill seeker. My 8 year old doesn't like anything that leaves the ground or is dark.

Re: age 7
Hi arielrocks! My DD, age 7, rode both TOT and Rock N Roller coaster and loved both of them. My DS, age 9, opted out of the TOT on our last visit. I say that if she wants to ride them, then by all means, let her!

Re: age 7
I just wanted to add that both the Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster are in my estimation the two most heart pounding attractions. I haven't been on Mission:Space yet, so I really couldn't comment on Mission:Space. I would test your daughter out on some other attractions before attempting these two. See how she handles Star Tours, Big Thunder Mountain, and Splash Mountain. If she really enjoys those and doesn't experience any problems then go ahead and give the most intense attractions a try as long as she meets height requirements. Just listen to your child. They'll guide you to what they can and can not handle.

Re: age 7
I want to thank everyone for their posts. We went to Hershey Park last summer and she missed the 2 inch cutoff. She told us she will be 48 or more inches within a year and some of the rides at Hershey I thought were way too intense for her and she proved us wrong. She wanted to be in first car and well, with me, I'm like give me the middle and I'm happy. I'm not sure I'm ready for TOT, but if the ride is in the dark then I can handle whats coming. I'm the once is enough for me person. My DD? The skys the limit. What is primevil whirl? I am looking for it.

Re: age 7
Hi there - my youngest LOVES all the fast thrill rides. She loved Space Mountain at 5, and couldn't wait to be tall enough for RockNRoller Coaster. She didn't want to try Tower of Terror - the theming was too scary for her. She didn't like dark scary things.
We went back when she was 6, and she just made it onto Rock and Roller Coaster, and LOVED it! Decided to ride Tower of Terror - and didn't like it at all - too much unknown, not enough speed! BTW, Tower of Terror's height requirement is only 44 inches - same as Space Mountain!
You know your daughter best - use your best judgement - but if they get scared - know that there is a chicken exit available!

Re: age 7
Mine loves the dark. She gave up the nite nite light last summer after she got home from camp. The one phrase that sticks out is, Mom? I don't need a baby lite to sleep with. I was like, yeah, ok. Now it has to be totally dark to scare the pants off her. I am wondering if it runs in the genes. Because I was the same way at her age. Now? I wonder if someone is in the house when something goes bump. I guess I must be the only one whose daughter says, scare me. I don't mean tickle, I mean scare me. I wonder what tower will do. I will report back in October. We leave at the end of Sept. This is her birthday trip. Thanks again everyone.

Re: age 7
From the sound of it your daughter will do just fine on TOT & RnR!
Maybe even better than you will!!

As far as Primevil Whirl, that is a fairly tame coaster in Animal Kingdom.
It is kind of like a mouse coaster but with slightly bigger cars that at some point start to "whirl"!
But it's really not bad at all...even my DW went on this without much trouble!!
Have FUN!!!

Re: age 7
My kids also want to try RNRC, but I want them to wait for their first time when it'll be some one other than me. Meaning, I don't want them two riding in the car ahead of behind me.
Both say they want to try ToT, but I think only because they know it's my favorite attraction(next to the Country Bears).

Re: age 7
Totally depends on your child. My 7 year old was petrified of the bigger rides when he was 4, but at age 5 he went on California Screamin' with me and hasn't looked back. He now loves all rides. If your dd is up for it, I say go. Kylor first went on ToT when he was 6 and he was beaming from ear to ear when we got off, couldn't wait to go back on!

Re: age 7
My youngest did ToT at 4, and loved it. She did Rock N Rollercoaster 2 weeks after her 6th b-day (she had to wait to get tall enough) and loved it also.
My 10 yr. old doesn't like ToT, but loves RNR, so it just depends.
Your post says that some books are giving ages. I think they are just trying to give an average age that the kid may be okay with the ride at. WDW goes strictly on height, if she is tall enough, and wants to, I would go for it.
On ToT, the build up is very intense (based on the phychological thrills of Twilight Zone), so I would go at a very slow time, or do Fast pass for it, as the build up is what freaks my 10 yr. old out.

Re: age 7
We have slowly build her up to scary movies. We thought The Ring was suitable until we realized what really happens at the end and we realized we really messed up. But she was ok with it. We explained and answered a lot of questions. I don't want to blow what I am talking about with this movie because it will give away the suspense. But she has seen Lord Of The Ring several times, cable airs it non stop plus other movies you might question. So, as for suspense? She is OK with it. I loved twilight zone. I also read All Ears and they said to stay away from the middle because you go air borne. I'm like, the corner is for me. DD has said point me towards the middle. I'm all for it. I must be raising an astronaut. Who knows.

Re: age 7
As the rest have said, it really depends on whether or not your daughter meets the height requirement. That being said, I have been on some attractions where the children were tall enough and thought that they wanted to go("I'm NOT a baby!") and then they cried and howled, amming the trip really unpleasant for everyone else. Do you have the WDW planning video? That shows the inside of RRC and ToT, and might give your daughter a better idea of what she'll encounter. It is also good to syand and watch people exiting the rides! DD, at 11,hated RRC,but went on because her brother,9, wanted to go, and then he went with her on ToT,which he really dislikes. They have now excused each other from supportive torture on future visits!
Oh, they like Primevil Whirl, but DS "made it spin way too much" for DD! Me? I stay firmly on the ground, thank you!
