Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Montreal anyone?

Hi! I was wondering what tips anyone out there might have about where to stay, what/where to eat, & what to do in Montreal & Quebec in general?

My DH may be going up there mid-late April for a meeting & we figured I could head up there after his meeting is over & make it a long weekend!

So please do share your experiences!!!

Thank you!!!

Re: Montreal anyone?

Tigger Alli,
I visited the city of Montreal about 3 yrs ago. It's a beautiful city. A nice mix of old world meets modern day comforts. I stayed at the Hotel Delta on Rue du President Kennedy. It was very central to everything.

Montreal has great shopping! They have a whole underground network of shops that covers several city blocks. Which its extra nice because April can still be chilly in Montreal.

There is a subway system in Montreal, which makes transportation a breeze. Montreal has several museums. There is a large casino about ten minutes from downtown Montreal. We went to a dinner/show performance there.

Montreal has a large university, so there is a big student population with a very active social scene.

We had a wonderful meal at the Ritz! It was a bit pricey, but hey, you only live once!!

I could go on and on. I would suggest going to your local Library. Fodor's or Frommer's are travel guides. One of them puts out a Montreal/Quebec edition. I used it for my trip and it was very helpful.

Have fun!!

Lori

Re: Montreal anyone?

Montreal is *such* a greeeeeat city! It's Canada's second largest, and also the second largest French-speaking city in the WORLD! (first being Paris, of course.) I went to school in Quebec City, so I'm more familiar with accomodations there, but Montreal is more metropolitan and showcases the height of fashion. There's a lot of super restaurants, you just need to walk around and find yourself inside one. Rue St. Catherine is a hotbed of activity. The only thing I could suggest is to go as late in April as you can...Canada takes a while to warm up to spring! Have fun!

Re: Montreal anyone?

Thank you all!
Loridalel if you want to go on & on I'm more than happy to listen, LOL. I will be checking out some travel guides this weekend.

simbarel, I was kind of worried about it being chilly but we don't get to set the time we're going unfortunately, still maybe the prices will be better because of it!

Tinkn that sounds SO fun! I doubt it will be open then (they might still have snow I think ) but it does sound very cool!

Thank you again for sharing--anyone else have any experiences they want to let me know about?

Re: Montreal anyone?

I'm not sure if La Ronde will be open when you go or not, but it is a nice well kept amusement park. A ride on Le Monster (huge wooden rollercoaster) during the Saturday night fireworks is wonderfull (I think the fireworks are only during summer although you may find them when you go).

Re: Montreal anyone?

When we went up last fall we stayed at Chateau Vaudreuil which I think is right on the line there in Montreal. It is a beautiful almost castle-like place with spectacular grounds!!

Re: Montreal anyone?

I just read an article in the current issue of Log Home Design Ideas (April 2003) on the Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello which is just West of Montreal in Montebello and it looks phenomenal - you might check out their website for more information.

Re: Montreal anyone?

TiggerAlli,

Everything Loi told you is right.
Chateau Montebello is almost 2 hours 1/2 from Montreal and you are almost in Ontario.

Ikea is a big store and if you need some you can go and it's easy to go from the center of Montreal

For Quebec City you have Museum and you can walk in the Old Qubebec for a long time and they have great restaurants on St-Jean street. If you are a Disney Club member look at Loews Le Concorde on Place Montcalm and Hotel Clarendon in Quebec City you have rebate with DC Card.
I will look for website and told you after

Re: Montreal anyone?

Quebec City (the walled city) is so old world and picturesque. They do have great restaurants and street performers and artists that set up in the alleys too.

Re: Montreal anyone?

Thanks for the hotel info. Lainey! That sounds gorgeous! I've been to IKEA in Chi, wonder if this one is bigger!?!

Hey Steve, what a bizarre place to find info! Too funny, thanks anyhow, but since Chantal says it's so far I think we'll skip it this trip!

Thanks again Tinkn, I hope we have time to see both Montreal & Quebec City, they sound beautiful!

Thank you so MUCH Chantal, I was really hoping you would find this thread--I figure you've got to be somewhat of an expert, right? Thank you for the website, I will definitely check it out today! Also thanks for the reassurance about being able to speak English as my French is VERY limited!

Thank you all! I really appreciate your help!!

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">LOL! I know - apparently the Chateau is billed as the worlds largest log hotel, so I guess that is why it was featured! The website makes it appear much closer to Montreal than it is - I was shocked to hear how far it is! Oh well - maybe next time - it looks gorgeous! ENJOY!!
