Have plane tickets, will travel!!! - to Prague! - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

DH and I purchased our plane tickets last night for our Prague/Poland trip next June, so it's official!!! I am so excited. I've wanted to go to Prague forever! (And a soccer tournament in Poland? Yes, please!) We've been pricing tickets for weeks, and they finally took a small dip this last weekend, so we decided we had to go for it. They were still $$$$, but better than they had been. At least we got a direct flight from Atlanta to Prague (we have to start in Savannah, but Savannah to Atlanta's like a 35 min flight so I don't even count it LOL!). I am all about direct flights - and after 2010's 17 hr direct flight to Johannesburg, this 9 1/2 hr flight will fly by!
Just wanted to share my excitement!! Still would love to hear any sightseeing suggestions for either Prague, Poland, or even the very eastern side of Germany (most likely Dresden) if anyone has any!

No suggestions, as I've never been to any of those places, but I have lots of friends and family who've been to Prague and all LOVED it! Just wanted to say CONGRATS! What soccer tournament will you be seeing?
Wish I could offer some help, but all those destinations were either closed or near-impossible to travel to back when I was roaming Europe. I've always wanted to see Prague as well. I'd be super-excited, too!
No suggestions, as I've never been to any of those places, but I have lots of friends and family who've been to Prague and all LOVED it! Just wanted to say CONGRATS! What soccer tournament will you be seeing?
Thanks! We'll be going to a few games of the 2012 Euro Championship! I will be a little sad because obviously the US isn't going to be there , but I think I'll get over it! Soccer tournies are so fun, and DH and I have both have our favorites from the continent! (DH - Germany, me - Spain...and we're both united in wanting to see England LOSE )

Great News! I love Prague, I have traveled to Prague five times in the past 18 months and will be there again in October. It is a fabulous city! The flight from Atlanta is a good one, I have taken it many times. (although I have to start on the west coast, so it takes a lot longer) Prague is a fabulous international city with nice people, great food and so much history. It is pretty affordable compared to many other European destinations. You will have a great time.

Wow, that is awesome that you get to go there so often!! I would love to hear any suggestions for sights not to miss if you have time to share some with me. Also, when you are there do you drive or take public transportation? We are renting a car and I am wondering how easy it is to drive/navigate when you don't speak Czech....? DH thinks it will be simple, of course. (Although I keep reminding him, the only foreign country he's driven in is South Africa and while yes, they drive on the other side of the road, all of the signs were in English! Which made it pretty easy)

I would be terrified to drive in Czech. I live in California where we drive a lot. But in Czech nothing is in English and the rules of the road are not the same. (they do drive on the same side we do at least) They have trams going down the middle of the streets and it not like anything we know in the US. (It is a bit like San Francisco and the trolley but a zillion times worse) Prague is a very walkable city. It is hard to see the sites on a bus or in a car, many areas of interest are in pedestrian only zones. The best way to see the sites is by taking an English speaking walking tour. Public transportation is cheap and readily available, as are taxis. Have you booked a hotel? I loved the one I just stayed in, Hotel Liberty.
You can get bus tours that originate in Prague that will take you on day trips to many other cities and countries. There is also easy car service transportation from the airport. Parking can be very hard to come by and expensive, especially in the hotels that are in Pedestrian only areas. (which are most hotels in the popular squares where all the main sights are)

Thanks for the tips!! We are going to have a rental car, mostly because we are driving all over (and I mean ALL over) Poland following the soccer games around. But it sounds like in Czech maybe we need to find a hotel with parking and just plan on parking the car for the most part the first few days while we are there exploring Prague.

We'll be in Prague from the morning of June 8 through June 10 (or maybe the morning of June 11, haven't totally decided) and then also from June 19 - June 21 (we leave on the 21st....I believe our flights is late morning). The dates in between those we'll be touring around Poland.

A friend of mines family lived in Germany for 3 years in the military. They would always bring back Kinder Happy Hippos. It's a candy and they are so good!!!
