As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ok...I had posted last week about going to Las vegas....but really too far for me.
So here's the scoop me (from the Boston area) and two cousins (both from Houston) want to get together for a Girls Getaway. Sooooo....NC and SC are about 1/2 between us.
Problem don't know which place to go....none of us have been to Savannah or Charleston. We like to shop, eat, drink, dance....not always in that order! I think both have ghost tours (I've always wanted to do that!)
Tough part too is that I am trying to figure out accomodations. Want to have our own beds. Would love to find a reasonable B&B ... but all seem to be over $200 a night and unless some place can guarantee ajoining rooms I'm not seeing we would be able to do a B&B.
Thoughts? Ideas?
Targeting beginning of May 2012 so we have some time to plan and save!
Ok, yes, I'm obviously biased because
<----------I live in Savannah.
But I don't live here because I was born here and have just lived here forever. I live here because DH and I came here for a long weekend for our 5th anniversary and decided there is nowhere else in the country we would rather live. So we moved here. Savannah is an amazing place. And don't get me wrong - I'm not knocking Charleston either. In fact, that's where DH and I went for our honeymoon, and we thought it was beautiful and romantic. But that's just the thing - Savannah can be very romantic, but it is also SUPER fun. Charleston, to me, is more romantic and refined....not exactly what I'd be going for on a girls' weekend. Shop, eat, drink, dance? Savannah to a T ! And ghost tours? We are considered one of (by some people THE) most haunted cities in the country. (Believe it or not - I'm not even sure I actually believe it - but I had a personal paranormal experience two weekends ago!) Ok, I know...I sound like a commercial now. But I really do love this town, and there is nothing more fun than sharing her with others.
About accomodations - instead of B&Bs, which are beautiful but often $$$, check into condo/apt rentals. They are often multiple bedrooms (which means more beds ) and much cheaper. We have tons of them around here. A couple of my friends come down here for vacation several times a year, and always stay in townhouse/condos. I would be happy to get some info about different companies from them if you'd like. I'd also be happy to offer food, shopping, dancing (do NOT miss Savannah Smiles Dueling Piano Bar), etc. if you want. Just let me know here or PM me.
(Just something I noticed from your original post....you say NC and SC are 1/2 way between you and your friends.... I am sure it was just a typo, but Savannah is in Georgia and Charleston is SC, neither is in NC. )

You can't go wrong with either. In Charleston, the plantation houses were amazing, while in Savannah we loved doing the carriage ride and seeing all the squares.
I think I'd base it on where you can get good, decent accommodation. I'd have a look on Trip Advisor to see which hotels are well rated, as bed and breakfastas seem to be out, and then price them out in each city. You may find some reasonable deals with the chains, but I would check the reviews of them before booking...
Charleston and Savannah are both beautiful cities! I've spent a lot of time in both of them and can recommend both easily! We just did girls trip to Savannah and had a great time. We spent the days exploring the squares and the nights on the main strip exploring the bars, we really enjoyed the English Pub.
Savannah! One of our best vacations ever.
It's a beautiful town. Very walkable, but we were easily able to rent a car for the day we wanted one to go out to Tybee Island.
We stayed at the Marriott on the River, because that's where DH's meeting was booked. It doesn't meet your parameters -- not a B&B and not quaint. But it was built as the athletes village for the yachting portion of the Atlanta Olympics, so it was interesting in its own way.

If you're looking for larger accommodations, don't forget to check the owner rental sites like vrbo.com and homeaway.com. I did a quick search (for Savannah) and found many historic condos for rent that sleep 2-8 people for well under $200 a night. Have fun planning!

I'm living the dream 20 minutes from Disney! Next trip...tomorrow. Follow me on instagram at ShirtsByShell
We stayed at The Inn at Ellis Square and got a great rate from AAA. The Inn also has Suites if you're interested. They are within walking distance of River Street, all the Squares, everything! They have packages too that include dinner a Paula Deen's &/or Haunted Tours. We will be staying there again for St. Patty's next year!
We did a Haunted Pub Crawl & a Haunted Trolley Tour. Both were ok but I found a walking tour book for $6 in a shop on River Street and experienced the best of Savannah that way - go figure!
Top Two bits of advice: even though it's a girls weekend, wear comfortable shoes - walking on River Street even in low heels was a disaster. visit the Cuban restaurant one block from Paula Deen's - MONSTER margaritas and fantastic Cuban sandwiches, it was on Whitaker. Hope it's still there.
Hmmm... much as I loved Savannah...
I just checked your other thread. I see that the group is arriving from Houston and Boston. Not sure that Savannah is halfway. Nor that any of you can get to either Savannah or Charleston quickly and easily.
Is there a hub airport in between that you could all get to with only one flight? St. Louis? Atlanta? If you're only going for a couple of days, almost anywhere has enough things to do to occupy a group for 48 hours.

Can you believe it's not? It closed. (and it's really strange that you mentioned it because I just randomly noticed last weekend that it had closed...DH loves Cuban sandwiches and we had never made it there to try theirs.)

You can get a direct flight to Atlanta from any major airport in the country (Houston and Boston included), and then from there they have a flight to Savannah almost every hour (flight is a little under an hour in length). I'm sure Charleston has a similar schedule from ATL, but I don't know for sure. Savannah's really an easy place to get to.

NOOOO!!!
We first went there the second day it was open. I swear we had margaritas the size of my head! We went back after we had checked out to have another Cuban sandwich before we headed home! Drat!
I could see how you fell in love and eventually moved there, beautiful place. I did the same with a little town on the west coast of FL, which I will move backto one day!!

I was just thinking for a short weekend, a direct flight location would beat a connection.
We had to go to Savannah via Memphis. To say it was ugly was an understatement.
Are you a DVC member? If so, you could stay at Hilton Head (well, I guess you can stay in Hilton Head and not be a DVC member....) and it's a pretty easy drive to Charleston AND Savannah from there.
We go to HHI every summer, and while we went to Charleston the first year, we continue to return to Savannah. My kids MUST have a meal at Uncle Bubba's (a Paula Deen restaurant) every year OR ELSE!!
Wow! Thanks for all of the responses! Sounds like Savannah is going to be the destination! To cubfancolleen... No not a DVC member. To ashli...oops yep that was a typo! Sorry! Definitely sounds like your the person to go to for detail info! I would like to PM when we start getting more into the nitty gritty of planning!
But keep the ideas, thoughts, experiences coming! I'm taking notes !
I like the idea of an apartment/condo. I am planning on a minimun of 4 nights. Really want time to bond and be together...but I'm not 22 anymore and I like my own space to sleep!

You are definitely more than welcome to PM me for any info/questions/suggestions, whatever. I LOVE talking about Savannah. Can you tell?

Just out of curiosity, what's the little town in FL? I grew up (well, ages 10 - 23) on the west coast of FL. If it's anywhere near Tampa I can tell you where you can find a Cuban sandwich that I bet is just as good as the one you got here.... (and this place is still open!)
