As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: World of Disney Store in NYC
There is a Disney store in Midtown, but I'm not sure it is a World of Disney store. It is on 5th avenue at 55th street. I thought saw one being constructed in the same general area...but it may have been the same one getting renovations? I thought the sign said opening 2004... This store is closest to the F stop at 6th Ave/57th. There is also one on the Upper WSide, at 66th street. I think there is also one near Times Square.

Re: World of Disney Store in NYC
I think we walked past one on 5th Ave, but much to DH's relief it wasn't due to be open until October. The outside looked gorgeous, though.

Re: World of Disney Store in NYC
I didn't realize that it was the 5th Avenue one that was going to be the WOD store. I thought it was the one in Times Square. Thanks for the info. Kim

Re: World of Disney Store in NYC
I got this from disneycorner.com:
World of Disney to Open in October 2004
BURBANK, Calif., May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The beloved Disney characters will
have a new home away from home on New York City's historic Fifth Avenue.
Beginning October 2004, some of the most adored Disney characters will meet
and greet New York's residents and visitors every day.
The Disney Store located at 711 Fifth Avenue will close for renovations on
Thursday, May 13, 2004. The store will re-open in October with a new look,
new product offerings, and a new name -- World of Disney. Like its
counterparts at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida and at the
Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, the World of Disney will be operated
by the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts merchandise team. "The Walt Disney Company has a long-standing commitment to New York City,
and as a native New Yorker I am particularly proud to reaffirm that
commitment," said Jay Rasulo, President of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "We
are dedicated to making the World of Disney location on Fifth Avenue a
flagship statement for our organization."
The new World of Disney on Fifth Avenue will offer uniquely Disney
entertainment experiences throughout the day, and will include Disney
characters. The World of Disney will also feature one-of-a-kind merchandise
offerings including New York City-specific fashions.
"We are thrilled to bring Disney storytelling, entertainment and a taste
of our world-famous theme park experience to New York City," said Rasulo. "We
anticipate that the World of Disney will become a magical destination in the
midst of the Big Apple."
SOURCE Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
I went to the one that closed last November. As I recall, it was close to Trump Tower, on our way up 5th Ave. We are going again this Decemeber, and now I can't wait to see it!

Re: World of Disney Store in NYC
I am thinking I may have to go down and see it when it opens, I can catch a Amtrak or Greyhound down. Sounds wonderful to me, though I am sure it will make me homesick for WDW

Sounds interesting! NYC is only 2 - 2 1/2 hours from me. Sounds like a day trip is coming in October!

Re: World of Disney Store in NYC
I'm going to NYC in a month+ and staying across the street from Carnegie Hall. I think it's something like 6th and 52nd? Looks like I'll be going for a walk if there's a WOD nearby!

Re: World of Disney Store in NYC
I was wondering where to post this info and then I came across this post. Yesterday I received an email (as I'm a Disney Visa cardholder) announcing the grand opening of the World of Disney in NYC on October 5th.
It appears that in addition to selling merchandise and having characters do meet and greets (how cool!), they are going to have a Cinderella show that will require the purchase of tix. The show is called Cinderella's Princess Court and stars another Princess for the majority of the show, with Cinderella coming out at the end. It's geared (obviously) mostly towards girls as they will be learning how to become a Princess. I think the adults who accompany the child are only there for the beginning and ending of the show (you get a beeper while you wait - and shop). The cost is $80 for one child and one adult. If you order the tix online, you can buy the tix at a discounted rate of $75; however, additional children cost $80 per tix (and are allowed another adult with that tix). I know that in addition to admission to the show, there are giveaways (similar to the Princess Tea at WDW but not the same, and although expensive at $80, not as expensive as the Tea!).
Show times will be: Mon - Sat: 12:15pm, 1:45pm, 5pm and 6:30pm; Sun: 1:15pm, 2:45pm, 4:45pm
You can also order tix at (212) 702-0704 and get info at (212) 702-0702 or by going to their site (how the heck did I not copy down the site info; will be back with that!)
Even cooler than all this was the possibility of our seeing special rehearsals prior to the opening of the store on Sept 29, 30 and Oct 3rd. I got the email yesterday morning, stating that as Disney Visa cardholders we would be able to register for admission to the rehearsals. However, by the time I clicked on the link to register for these special (freebie) previews, I found out that they were all sold out Still it was exciting to read about and learn all about the store.
The store is located at 711-5th Avenue (55th Street and 5th Avenue). Store hours are to be: Mon - Sat, 10am - 8pm; Sun, 11am - 6pm.
Upcoming characters: 10/5 - 11/18: Lilo & Stitch; 11/19 - 1/3/05: Santa Goofy and Chip & Dale. These Meet and Greets seem to be free and take place in the Magical Friendship Room. The times for the appearances are: Mon - Sat: 10:30am, 1:30am, 3:15pm, 4:15pm and Sun: 11:30am, 12:30pm, and 4pm.
Going to look for the site addy now. Anyone else get an email like that??
Ok, for the site address, this was a D'oh! moment for me: http://www.worldofdisney.com/ Makes Sense!!
And yes, count me in for a NYC Passporter Meet! That I can do!!

I'll be on a bus trip with a large group of friends on 12/4 for the day, ending at Radio City Music Hall. We'll be there around noonish.

I heard somewhere awhile back that it was suppose to be the biggest one of all the Disney Stores.

Thanks for all that info Val! I thought the opening would be closer to the end of the month!
So who's up for a meet on Saturday Oct. 9th or Sunday the 10th?
I may just drop by after work before that, just to get a sneak peek!
