As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am planning on taking my daughter to New York to celebrate her High School graduation. I am doing this instead of a party. We would like to stay for about 3 days, but I would like to see a Broadway show and all the sites if possible. I have know idea of how to begin. What to ask for, actually I am a little nervous with the thought of us getting lost in the city. Any advice would be much appreciated.

What a great present! I live near and work here in NYC. There are a million things to see and do. Getting around is very easy, and don't worry about getting lost. Get your tickets for Broadway as soon as you know when you are coming. Shows during the week are generally easier to get than on the weekend but lately seats have been easy to come by. If you are watching your budget, Stay just outside the city. Harmon Meadow has several hotels and regular bus service to and from the city. You will save big $$ there as hotels in town are expensive (unless you get some special deal). If this is your first trip hit all the big sites, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Times Square.... Get a guide book and read up on what else might interest you. The 3 days will go by very quickly. Anything else, just ask!

We really want to stay in the heart of the city, close to as much as possible. I would like to stay at a nice hotel around Broadway. I really have no clue as to where these hotels are located, I would like to find a nice one that I can easily find my way around. My daughter and I are two peas in a pod, we have no sense of direction. I have looked at some of the bus tours. If you have any suggestions of nice hotels please let me know. I checked one out and it was 1400.00 per night, that was way above my budjet .

I agree - what an awesome present! We were in New York in October, it was my fourth visit and I love the city. There is so much to see and do. The big sights that first time visitors shouldn't miss out on are definitely the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. Make sure those are top of your list. Also be sure to visit the World of Disney store and Central Park is amazing. We didn't get to see a show on our last visit, but I've heard very good things about the Little Mermaid and I would've loved to have seen that.
As for getting around, it is really simple and we've never had any problems with getting lost.
We always stay at the Hilton, its clean and right in the middle of everything. The front desk is super helpful in helping you arrange transportation, and also how to get from point A to Point B
We had a blast! did the top of the rock, on rockefeller center, the wax museum, statue of liberty and central park.
There is so much to see & do!!
There are several major hotel chains right in times square..... Westin, Doubletree, Hilton, Marriott. Definetely the center of everything. Check out their websites for rates and more info. Good luck in your search
Hi! I'm here in Manhattan and you'll love it here. There are lots of major hotels right in Times Square, but be ready to pay big bucks. Friends of our just visited and stayed in the Marriott Marquis right in the heart of everything, and paid a good $550 a night. Crazy! If you want to see a show, be sure to get tickets ASAP. A group of my friends went to see The Little Mermaid this past November and didn't love it. We thought it was very cheesy and on-par with a theme park performance. That would be fine if we hadn't have paid $150 a ticket! I'd go with Wicked, Billy Elliott or Shrek, those are doing well and are a ton of fun! Just be sure to get tickets ASAP.
4-days isn't a lot of time to fit everything in, so be sure to prioritize. Make sure to see Times Square (which is hard to miss ), Central Park, and the Statue of Liberty. I'd actually recommend the Top of the Rock over the Empire State Building - shorter lines, cheaper tickets and better views. You get a great view over all of New York, Central Park, and the Empire State Building right across the way.
I'm so happy you asked this questions and started this thread. I am taking my son, daughter and one of my son's friends to NYC for his HS graduation this May. I've booked the hotel/flight through Expedia. We're staying at the Doubletree Suites in Times Square. Now I'm just stuck planning the rest of the trip. I have a couple of tours lined up and tickets bought for things to see. And to tell you the truth, getting around the City scares me to death. I will be checking this thread often for updates.

The Doubletree Suites in Times Square is one of my all-time favorite hotels! Some friends of mine from out-of-town stay there every year when they come to visit, and I always go spend some time with them in the room and the place is GORGEOUS! The rooms are spotless and HUGE! You'll love it!
You all are giving me some great tips, I am looking forward to going. I do have a few travel books and want to see as much as possible. Thanks for all the tips.

We were there earlier this month. We had a split stay for my Dh's conference. We were at a Hilton that was on the Avenue of the Americas, and we were at a Sheraton that was very close to Times Square (just around the corner).
Of the two hotels, I preferred the Hilton. I thought it was a "nicer" property with more ammenities. It had a great proximity to shopping/dining, too.
I was CERTAIN we would I would get lost in the city, but I even ventured out SOLO while my DH was busy with his conference activities. I was able to easily find the World of Disney and all of the other fantastic shopping venues, too.
I thought the city was pretty "user-friendly," and we even took the subway to visit some further sites (Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, Little Italy, Chinatown, etc.).
Happy travels! You are going to have sooo much fun!!
We've stayed at the Hilton on Avenue of the Americas. It's very well located for sightseeing and a bit less hectic than staying in Times Square. We've done that too and I quickly got tired of fighting the crowds every time we left the hotel. We're trying the Affinia Dumont in Murray Hill this trip. The AD rooms have a kitchen and I'm hoping we can save a bit of $$ on food.
