As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

which moderate resort do you prefer?
My husband and I are thinking about taking the kids back to WDW next summer. We always stay at CBR,(I love it there), but my husband wants to stay somewhere different. So, which moderate resort do you guys prefer? I would also like to know what you think about the room size, the resort theme, the food court, the pool(s), how close you are to the food court, and the lines for the buses. Thank you in advance for all that respond! -Jenn-

Re: which moderate resort do you prefer?
I love French Quarter for all of the reasons you mentioned it your post. It's got a very cozy and intimate feel to it and it didn't seem like we did an excessive amount of walking while there.
The theming is first rate as well. Happy planning!

Re: which moderate resort do you prefer?
I love POR. I love the theming, which is all very well done, and I love the whole feel of the resort.
The pool is great, the quiet pools are great, as well.
I've stayed in the Mansion side, and had an easy walk to the food court, and other areas.
The boat ride to DTD is a real plus, too.
The rooms were fine for us.
It's been a while since I was there, so I can't comment on the buses.
We also ate at Boatwright's and the food was good.

I agree with Lisa, although my favorite side of POR is Alligator Bayou (see signature photo). I just like the atmosphere better.

Re: which moderate resort do you prefer?
I have stayed at CBR, POFQ, and Coronado Springs.
I am in the minority who didn't like French Quarter at all. The only having 1 pool was a negative as if you wanted to just go to a quiet pool that had no slide you had to go to POR. We weren't impressed by the service and the food court left little to be desired. Now people love it I just don't see it.
CBR is great theming wise and we had great service there. But I would say our Favorite was Coronado Springs. That place felt more Deluxe to us even though we were paying for a Moderate resort.
The rooms were very spacious (compared to Pop Century) the theming was beautiful, the courtyards were gorgeous. The pools were top notch and while the Pepper Market is a bit different you definately wouldn't starve as there is something for everyone at breakfast. Dinner we mostly ate at the park anyways so one or two mexican meals were not horrible.
If it were me I'd either stick with CBR or try CSR.

I like CBR myself. I've stayed at POR and POFQ, too. They are both nice but I like CBR best.

Re: which moderate resort do you prefer?
In my book, when it comes to Disney's moderate resorts, you can't beat POFQ. Other than not having your own private balcony, it feels more like a deluxe than a moderate. It's a small, compact resort so no matter where your room is, you're only a short walk from the bus stop and facilities. The theming is fabulous and the resort is centrally located so you're only a very short bus ride away from all of the theme parks except for the Animal Kingdom. The boat ride to Downtown Disney is also a lovely perk. I also thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment in the lobby most nights. And one must never underestimate the power of the beignet! I got positively addicted to that delicacy for breakfast while staying there. We had a delightful stay here and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Re: which moderate resort do you prefer?
I have stayed at 2 of the 4 moderates (CBR and CS) -- of the 2 - CS is preferred. Not sure about POFQ and POR - although I want to stay at POFQ as soon as I can!

Another vote for POFQ here, for all of the above reasons.

Re: which moderate resort do you prefer?
The only moderate we've stayed at so far was POFQ, and it was okay, but not our favorite. I liked the size of the resort and the boat ride, but the bus lines both at the park and the resort were more than any other resort I've been at (Pop, Poly, and AKL). When a bus did arrive it was often standing room only, and then we'd stop at POR and cram some more people on. I'd also heard a lot about how much bigger the rooms were vs. a value, and I really didn't notice much difference, although the double sinks were nice. The food court didn't have grab and go stuff like little cartons of milk and yogurt and pieces of fruit, and that's something I like. The pool and spa were both so crowded our whole stay there that we never used them. It was okay, but not my favorite. We're trying POR in November. I think the theming looks more my style there.

Re: which moderate resort do you prefer?
I've stayed at POR and CBR - both twice and loved them both. At POR I've stayed in both the AB and Mansions and prefer the Bayou. I loved walking along the paths of the Bayou. We had a "quiet" pool right outside our door and the parking lot was really close. The food court was great. My kids prefer counter service to sit down most of the time. We never tried the restaurant. We also loved taking the boat to DD. It was a nice change of pace.

Yikes, doesn't sound like much fun! Am considering POFQ for our next trip; what time of year were you there?

Re: which moderate resort do you prefer?
I have stayed at all four Moderates and I have to say that PO Riverside is my favorite! The Food Court has a little bit of something for everyone - even my picky family! Having several pools to choose from takes care of the one being crowded. Although I have been on the buses there and had to stand - I have found that at almost every Resort I have stayed at some point in the stay. There is nothing that can change everyone leaving the parks together or going at the same time of day.

Re: which moderate resort do you prefer?
Another vote for POFQ. We loved this resort. The room size, the theming and intimate feel of the resort, the close proximity of all the buildings, pool, food court, boat ride, walking path by the river - we loved everything about this resort and would not hesitate to stay there again. We personally never had a problem with crowding at the pool or food court. We had a rental car with us so cannot comment on the bus service.
