Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The \"Oh why can\'t I just make up my mind\" - Home, the long way.

I am not a trip report writer although I love reading everyone else's. My technical skills are limited and I can't use a digital camera, never mind post pictures from one. But I have decided to try my hand at a trip report. First, as I said, I love reading other's reports. And secondly, if I put it in this report, perhaps I'll keep it that way.

This is a trip for my DD (17) and I. We have travelled with the whole family several times, but I really enjoy my trips with just the two of us. She will be off to college next year, so hopefully this will not be the last.

The whole trip started when DD's friend asked her to go with her to Disney at the end of April for school vacation. I knew I had some comped ultimate park hopper tickets that were expiring and when I looked up the expiration date, realized they would expire before her trip. I made some modest efforts into seeing if the expiration could be extended by a few weeks, before deciding I should just take DD so as to not "waste" these tickets.

I had originally decided on leaving on the 31st after her morning classes. DD will hear from colleges around the first of April so I thought she'd want to be around for the mail. I received an email from a client that mentioned no school on the 30th so we decided to leave a day early.

So we had the dates and park tickets so now all we needed was a room and a flight. Used a free ticket and got another very expensive ticket to Orlando on Southwest. Kept checking the flights and got a reduction of almost $100. on the flight down so we have flexible travel funds for a future trip. The only reduction on the flight back was for a pretty late flight and DD has to get to school on MOnday. So we only changed flight reservations once, which for this trip is pretty good.

We have stayed on site and off and enjoyed both. Onsite we have stuck with deluxes but it really wasn't in the budget for this quick and unexpected trip. I had convinced DD we would enjoy the Pop Century but when I called they had no AAA rates. They did however, have AAA rates for the CBR, however, only a king room. There really wasn't too much difference in the rate so I booked the CBR, king room with a cot.

The next day I called and was able to get into a standard room at the CBR-two beds, no need for a cot. All set, right? No. I read some not so nice reviews of the CBR and was getting cold feet. So I called again and they now had a AAA rate at the Coronado Springs. So I took it.

So with 4 days to go we have our flight, hotel and tickets. Plans? We're working on them. Airport transportation? DME so far. Dining? DD doesn't waste time sitting down to eat when we can be doing something.

Up next-the rough plans.

Diane

I agree with you that there's something very special about mother/daughter trips to WDW. I've had the privilege of doing them both as the mother half and the daughter half and they're both equally wonderful. Have a truly magical vacation!

Re: The \"Oh why can\'t I just make up my mind\" pre trip report -March 30-April2-Update

Three days from now at this time we'll be on the way to the airport. Fortuneately, flying out of Manchester (MHT) is wonderful. Quick, easy and never too long of a line.

I faxed my room request down to the CSR report this morning. Of course when I have too much to do before I leave, my notebook computer in my office starts acting up -the keyboard wouldn't type the right letters. Don't know what got into it, but resetting it got it back to normal and I polished my request and sent if off. I'm pretty satisified with my decision to switch to the CSR. I've read a little and it looks like there's a good path so that DD can do a mile run.

We are planning on using DME based on all the good reports here. I like the idea that it's pretty quick to get from MCO to the resort. I've found it can be a real hassle getting a rental at MCO. So why do I keep looking up rental rates?

So far, our plans are loose. I've made them, DD is too caught up in awaiting college decisions to put much thought into them. She also wants more information about her end of the month trip to help her decide her priorities for this trip.

My plans subject to change are

Thursday -to be at the resort by 6:00-6:30, check in, then either head over to DTD or the MK.
Friday - AK for opening, resort for a quick pick me up-Epcot for evening and EMH.
Saturday -MGM for EMH (DD rides ToT and RnRC) possibly LMA and then rest? and then a long afternoon and evening at MK.
Sunday-relatively leisurely breakfast and off to the airport. Arrive home early and get DD up to the barn to ride.

Fortuneately DD is an early riser-she's off to school by 7:00 her extracurriculars keep her from sleeping in very often.

I'm debating getting some rechargeable batteries ofr DD's digital camera (she left the last set at the AKL). If so I may try my hand at digital photography. I also want to pick up some more water to carry on. DD likes Poland Springs, a local brand, and drinks a ton. Hopefully, I'll find the time for a quick trip to Target or Walmart in the next couple of days.

For now-back to work.
