As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

During our upcoming trip I will need to get to and from the GF without using the Disney bus transportation. My daughter is in a Disney wedding, and we need to get to the resort a few hours prior for hair styling and photos, then afterwards we will need to get back to the BCV while all dressed up in our wedding gear...not ideal attire for the buses. Anyway, I've never rode in a taxi with a child who normally sits in a carseat. We are not taking one with us, so is this even going to be a possibility? Can I call the taxi company and request a car seat be in the cab when it arrives?
You can call, but it's not too likely they'll have a safety seat available. Legally, taxis are exempt from the safety seat law. Mears Transportation operates the three taxi companies that serve WDW.
Some towncar services in Orlando do carry booster seats, including Quicksilver, which is a sponsor here on the message boards. I suggest that if you're interested, phone for a quote - the rate card online doesn't cover trips that short.

This might have been the CM providing a little magic for us on this one occasion, but I did have this experience...
We'd had late night ADRs at Ohana at the Poly. We agreed to just take a taxi back to POFQ because it was our last night, we were tired, and just didn't feel like piling onto a crowded bus. We stopped at Bell Services and asked CM Bob if he could call us a taxi. He politely inquired, "Sure, but, may I ask where is it you are heading?" We indicated POFQ. I don't know if it was because of our tired little girls or what, but he said "Give me just a minute, and I'll take you there myself." Within a minute or two, he was pulling up in an official Polynesian sedan and while I hesitated for a second because there weren't any carseats, I figured that it would be the same situation with a taxi. So, we piled in the car and had a lovely conversation with Bob all the way to POFQ.
Do I condone not using a carseat? Of course not. But, like someone was saying about taxis, they don't generally have them and even if they do, who knows what condition they might be in. So, maybe you can speak with someone at Bell Services perhaps and explain your situation and provide you alternative transportation? In my experience, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I agree with this too, and we have used a Taxi going from Poly to HDDR. I don't like to do it, but really I guess it's not much different than using the Disney Buses or DME? You can always put the lap belt on her, that's what we do in taxis.
Funny- our experience with taxis in Florida, and especially going to/from/around WDW has been that they have to move some car seats around to accommodate us!
If you have an idea when you'll be done at the wedding, ask bell services ahead of time to have a taxi waiting for you - with a booster seat.
Or, as others have suggested, just use the lap belt. If your DD questions why not a car seat when she has to have one at home, just explain it's a taxi and has different rules.
I thought taxis were exempt from the car seat law, but I could be wrong. Another option might be renting a car for the day. Rental car companies usually have the option of renting a car seat from them at the same time.
Thanks everyone. I think I'll try and have bell services call ahead and see if they can request one. If not, from what everyone has said, I think I'll be okay going from resort to resort. I can't rent a car for the day because we're so busy with all the prep we wouldn't have time to pick it up or return it.
We have taken taxis in Chicago when our kids were that young. We held onto them in the back seat. I don't ever recall seeing anyone in a taxi using a car seat. Drivers like you in and out to make the most money.

Do NOT do this! Lap belts are VERY dangerous for children! Please, PLEASE, do some research on the subject.
The reason small children are required to be in car seats is for correct seat belt placement on their small bodies. Seat belts in vehicles are positioned in such a way to accomadate adults, not children.
By putting this lap belt on your child, without a car seat/booster seat, without a properly postitioned shoulder belt...you are risking serious abdominal injury, including severe cuts.
Seriously, I am not trying to scare you, but do some research on it and you will see. A child is much more likely to be cut at the midsection (where a regular adult seatbelt hits them) with the force from a car accident.
Riding in the car for a short distance really is no different than riding in the bus unbelted.

As I read some of the new posts, I remembered that when I was a child there were no car seats and we rarely used lap belts. I even remember rolling around in the back of a station wagon with my friends, and sitting on the floor of the backseat during long rides. I think you'll be fine with a taxi.

Just wanted to give you something to consider.
I totally agree with you on this, and that's why I'm going to have bell services call way ahead. If for some reason they can't and I don't feel comfortable taking the taxi or shuttle van then I can always hop on the monorail and take a bus back. But you're right, riding in a bus unbelted is just the same as riding in a car unbelted, and that's what I had planned on doing if I ended up taking a taxi without the seat/booster.
I will admit however, that just this past weekend I had to take Hope to the ER, and she was in so much pain that I couldn't position her properly in her car seat. So I sat in the back seat with her and held her in my arms. Was I scared doing that? Yes. Do I regret my decision? No. If that was the only way to keep her from screaming in pain, then I had no problem traveling the 10 minutes to the hospital without her in the car seat.

Yw Melissa! That just scares me. Oh no! I hope that Hope is alright.

I agree with you. Its a very dangerous situation if two people are wrapped in the belt. In an accident the child in front could be severly injured just by the force of the adult behind pushing them forward into the belt. Seat belt are only made from one person. We always held our kids in our laps when taking a taxi.

Yes that is also very dangerous! IMPO, just say no to lap belts! LOL

I too recall rolling around in the back of my mom's station wagon which was way safer than sitting in the front seat because my mom's station wagon had a metal dashboard and your only seat belt was when you dad had to stop short and he threw his arm over to grab you. I'm sure from one resort to the other you will be fine. We rode in many taxi's down there and they seem to drive pretty slow and it's a short distance.
